This is a diary of WE Costley and wife of the labor of each that is performed and a discription of the weather as it comes and goes beginning Monday August the 18th 1913

Monday August the 18th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a damp morning Some what cloudey wind from the south east quite damp Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 72 Degrees tempature with a good prospect of rain today the familey a rose some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer prepared the fire in the cook stove then ground and put the coffee on the stove to make then Ida Ada Costley and my wife M.V. Costley went to work then prepared the morning meal whilst the writer fed and cared for the poney and fowls on the place then returned too the house and we eat our morning meals as the woman had it Served and placed on the table and announce readey to be eat after all the familey had eat there morning meal the woman folks went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer walked down to see Mr. Baker to See if he wanted the cow that Ada Costley proposed to sell him or not but did not get to See him So i returned home to find that C. C. Costley and Dean Costley had geered the poney then hitched him too the cart and drove over too Mr E E Millicans on my old place on the north Side of middle Bosque to See him and Still it is much in appearance of rain the writer then walked in too the garden and gathered a mess of turnup greens that i had growed this Summer for the woman to cook for there dinner and after gathering of them i brought them in doors then the woman went to work to get them shaped up to cook them and did cook them for the noon meal and after getting there meal Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the dinner then portaken of our noon meal after all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far all the familey taken a long rest as it was so warm at or near 12- o clock noon today Mr E.E. Mulican come to Crawford to day for the Shingles to cover the house on my old place and taken five thousand five hundred Shingals home with him and 15 pounds of Shingle nails to cover the house with , now at or near half past 12- oclock today it began to get thick cloudey all over the elements as though it would come a rain in a Short while which (part of page torn out.) at one oclock this the cloud n become clear and bright wind changed too the my noon meal walked
_____as it has began to thunder in ___________ half? past one oclock P M of today and _________ dsey in that direction but still all past _______ay fell in the town of Crawford Texas at or near ______ Oclock P M the writer began to do up his night Schores and after getting through we then eat our evening meal and when through with that part of the work and the Supertable and contents cared far then Ida and Ada began to prepare to meet the pasenger train at the Depot to night as they are going to Waco to night after they left we then departed to our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest tonight W.E. Costley at home

Tuesday August the 19th AD 1913 Opened up quite a clear nice morning quite warm wind from the North East blowing Somewhat - - - ble Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registerd at 74 Degrees tempature. The family arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the stove then ground and put the coffee on to make then fed the poney and fowls. After getting through i returned too the house as we went to work to prepare the morning meal for the family with the help of my wife and Dean Costley and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves to the table then eat our motning meal after the familey were through and the breakfast table cared for all the familey but Lum Costley went too there dailey work my wife too her house hold affares and the writer to prepareing him Self to go on ever (over) too his old place to take a ladder and a lot of old lumber that i had lying around the place to make a scaffel to cover the old mansion that i once lived in days past and gone what might be called my best days of my life or at least i thaught so and that was enough to passify my mind that it was so at least and after getting Shut of my load i then drove down in to the bosque bottom in my old pasture to Salt our cattle that we had in the pasture and found all the cattle but one and it was out of the way and i did not know where, So after Salting the Cattle we then drove for our place of a bode after arriving at home we dismounted from our cart taken the poney from the cart gave him water then taken the geer off of him and put him in the lot and then eat our noon meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table after all were through with our noon meal we then taken a rest for Some bit than went to work again at diferent work to what we worked at in the fore noon it has been very warm to day and at one oclock this the clouds began to Scatter and Soon become clear and bright and Still wamer, and the wind changed too the South a gain. and after eating of my noon meal to day then taken a Short rest i then walked down in town to See one of my old time friends Walter Bewley of Waco and he come up on the morning pasenger train to attend to Some business to day he is a citizen of the vacinity of Waco Tex and has been for a great while in Waco and its surroundings after conversing with him for some bit i then returned home and assisted my wife in washing Some of our clothing, and after getting through i then done up my night Shores then eat our evening meal and when through and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then taken a short rest then departed too our bed of repose with hopes of a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey.
W E Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas I forgot to mention a part of the work done on the premises this evening Deen Costley went to work and mended a cot for Lum Costley as it was Some what dilapidated and disabled

Wednesday August the 20th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a warm morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 76 Degrees tempature the familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for buisiness the writer fed and cared for the poney then returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then ground and put the coffee to make then my wife went to work and prepared the morning meal with the help of the writer after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves to the table then partaken of our morning meal after all were through with there morning meal and the Breakfast table and contents cared far we then went to work and Some to viseting a gain Lum and dean costley caught and geered the poney hitched him too the cart then drove up to Tom Sterlings to Spend the day, whilst W.E.Costley rode over too my old pasture to deliver to Charley Baker Some cattle that i had Sold too Baker one cow i Sold for 4 and three quarter cents per pound also too year old Bull for 4 twenty cnt per pound, and after getting them too the Scales in the town of Crawford Texas we wayed them on the Scales the cow wayed 950 pounds and the too year old wayed Seven hundred and thirty pounds at fore and a quarter cents come to 31 dollars and to cents and the cow come to forth five Dollars and twelve cents we then drove them too Bakes pen then put them in his pen i then returned home and eat my noon meal although being late after the familey was through with out meal we then put the table and contents all in good Shape again, we then taken a rest after resting the writer walked down too the farmers bank and drawed the monen (money?) from the bank and Sent Ada Costley draft for her to draw her pay from the bank in the city of Waco and the (44.80) forty fore Dollars and 80 cents that my wife drawed for cow i deposeted that amount in the bank farmers Bank, kept by Jourdan(?) and John B Nichols and others then i set returned home then i done up my night Schores i we then eat our Evening meal. After all were through and the evening table and contents cared for we then taken our usuall rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping asto get a good nights to night is the desire of the familey

Thursday August the 21St AD 1913 - Opened up a right(?) warming(?) wind from the East and part of the day from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 78 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer first fed and cared for the poney and fowls then returned too the kitchen and renewed the cook Stove and as isted my wife in prepareing of my morning meal and after getting of it Served and place on the breakfast table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after all were through and the table and contents cared for we then Set out for our days work my wife went about her house work whilst my wife went about her domestick work the writer and Dean Costley caught then geered the poney and drove over too Mr Mulican on my old place to assist in recovering a house on my old place on the North side of Middle Bosque creek after ariving at the place we dismounted from our cart then went to work covering the house as Mr E E Mulican and his lathering saw was at work covering on the house whilst Dean costley hope to nail on Shingals alday the writer then went to Sortening out the Shingles. to get the best ones to cover a buggy shed to put my buggy under to keep it out of the weather and work up to late in the eavening then hitched up the poney and drove too my plafce in the town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i assisted my wife in prepareing our evening meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then eat our evening meal and when through and the table and contents cared far the writer then fed and curried the poney then returned too the house then Seated my Self at my writing and recorded the work that has been done by the familey today and a discription of the weather as at or near half past five o clock there was a cloud arose in the East ansd north with heavey thunder in the East and North but no rain in this part of the country and past off northward. now as we are all through we will go to our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night WECostley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas

Friday August the 22th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a _____ morning wind from the Northwest Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 78 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what _______ this morning and when prepared for buisiness we Started the fire in the Stove then the writer did the feding and returned too the Kitchen and went to work to prepare the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table as usual as it has been a custom all of our life eat our morning meal after the familey were through and the breakfast table and contents cared for we then proceeded to the work that was planed out to do to day and that was to take a cow and yearling from my old place too the Bosque creek to water and bring a load of old Shingles from my old place that we taken off of the old dwelling to re cover it again with new Shingles. After geting loaded we then drove for Crawford where i now live after arriving at home i then taken the poney from the cart taken the geer off of him then turned him in the lot to cool and after the poney cooled off Dean Costley fed him we then eat our noon meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat, after the familey was through with our noon meal and the table and content cared far we then taken a Short rest then my wife went to work to knitting of a mat to go in her chair in order to make it Set easy than what they do whilst the writer walked down in town to see what was going of on in the Town at any rate today, after arriving at the place i noticed that the town was quiet and Scarsley any one in Town and only three bales of cotton on the Street for Sale and the(y) Sold at 12 Dollars and ten cents per hundred and a couple more at the gin ungined at Mr M Marks gin was a bout all that i Seen going on whilst down in Crawford Texas i then returned home by Mr Abbys to See Mrs Dalton as i had Seen her Husban down in Town they had just come in to Crawford on yesterday evening from Caleen in Bell County Texas. he had here too for taught School in Crawford Texas for too or three years Strait along in Suckcession and a nice teacher he is, after arriving at home i tried to take a nap but being so warm i failed to complete the job i then arose from my bed and went to work to record what had been done by the familey to day up to Six oclock Pm This evening i then done up my nights Schores we then eat our evening meal then taken a Short rest before going to our nights rest to night It made another attempt to rain this evening from the North East but failed to rain at Crawford Texas, with Some distant thunder in the North East the direction of the clouds after the flowrry Dean Costley taken Mr E E Mulican Saddle home that he borrowed to day to ride over home today from Mr Mullican on my old place W. E. Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas

Saturday August the 23dh 1913 - Opened up quite a clear bright morning wind from the North East, Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 78 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for buisiness the writer then first fed the poney then returned too the house and renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work to prepare our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table then annonced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then eat our morning meal and after getting through and the breakfast table cared far we then went too our dailey work again my wife too her house whole affares and the writer caught and geered the poney hitched him too the cart then drove over to my old place to cut out a road So that i could have a line Surveyed across the South East part of my land and to get Some corn to feed on after cutting out apart of the line being So warm i then gathered my corn and drove too my place in the town of Crawford Texas and the first news i learned as Soon as i come in too Crawford that in my absence my house had caught a fire but the quck action of the citizens of Crawford Soon checked the flames and Subdued the burning of the house for which i felt very greatful to the people of Crawford Texas for there liberality Shown the writer in his absence after then writer arrived at home i taken the poney from my cart taken the geer off of him gave him water then fed him we then eat our noon meal that my wife had just prepared for the familey then when the familey had quenched there thirst for food and the dinner table and contents cared foar we the(n) had nothing to do but watch the burn to See if it broke out again but So far being fore oclock P.M. we have not Seen any Sign of it braking out So evry thing is quiet in the burn So far, about half past three oclock Lum and Dean Costley walked down in to Crawford too See the Showmen play a band of music as they are going give Crawford a kind of a Surcous (Circus) tonight, at 8 - PM - this has been a very warm day and the wind has been in the North East the principal part of to day blowing cool but the rays of the Sun very penetrating too the flesh, now at or near five oclock PM i walked down too Nichols Store and purchased a lot of Bacon and Potatoes for the house then brought it home with the writer after arriving at home my wife had our evening meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our selves to the table then portaken of our evening meal after all were through with our evening meal and the Suppertable and contents all in good Shape we moved in too our bed room for a Short rest and after getting rested we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to be blessed with a good nights rest to night W.E. Sunday August the 24th AD 1913 - opened up quite a bright morning, wind wind form the north Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 76 Degrees tempature, with a prospect of a clear day ahead The familey arose Some what later this morning but after getting prepared for buisiness the wirter then fed and cared for the poney then returned too the Kitchen and Started a fire in the Stove to prepare our noon meal as it were too late to prepare our morning meal, after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of our morning meal when through and the table and contents cared far we then Sat in for a Sabbath days rest to day asit is a holey day with the Lord Savour Jesus Christ. and contented our up to about Eleven oclock we then went to work to prepare Something to Eat after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our noon meal, after all were through and the table and contents cared far by Dean Costley and the writer we then moved out in too our East galery and continued our Sabbath days rest untill a bout six oclock from which the writer and Dean costley and the wiriter went to work to do up the nights Schores and after we were through we the(n) eat our evening meal after satisfying of our apetite for food we then went to work and put the dining table and contents all in good Shape again we then moved out in too our South east galery for a Short rest as the church bells was toling for the congregation to met at the church house for worship to night as young Brother Loper is the man that is appointed to Speak peace too there soles as he claims that he is called of God to preach his word to those that will beleave in the living God, now as we are through with our labors for to day we will thank the lord for his infanite merce for the extension of our lives throught this Sabbath day and depart too our bed of repose hoping to enjoy a good nights Sleep to night is the desire of the familey W.E. Monday August the 25th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cool morning being earley and as the Sun came up it became much warmer the familey a rose Some what late this morning wind being from the East causing people to Sleep well from which we over Slept our Selves but when prepared for work the writer fed and cared for the poney then fed the fowls and when through returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the Stove then Dean Costley and the writer went to work then prepared our morning meal and after getting of it prepared and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same after all were through and the table and contents cared far we then went to different work Dean Costley went to work on the yard fence to stratening up the post whilst the writer went in pursuit of a carpenter to remoddle the burnt place in my kitchen roof that caught fire on last Saturday at Eleven oclock AM August the 23 dh 1913 whilst cooking of our noon meal the writer obtained Mr William Shrader to do the work and he went to repareing the roof, and Soon had it in good repare again ready to burn again, but live in hope of it never catching a fire again. and at or near Eleven oclock AM the writer began to prepare our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal after the familey had Satisfied there thirst with food the writer went to work and put the dinner table and contense all in good Shape we then taken a good rest and after resting for bit we then went to work on the house as Mr Shrader was a recovering the gat that was burned out in the roof and finished recovering the Same at or near Seven oclock this evening he then departed to our bed of repose after getting our work done up and eat a cold snack for our evening meal hoping to get a good nights rest to night WE Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Tuesday August the 26th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cool morning wind from the Thermometer at or near Six oclock this morning Registered 74 Degrees. The familey arose from there bed of repose this morning and after getting prepared for work we then prepared our morning meal after gettin of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after all were through and the table cared far we then went to work alright my wife too her house whole affares whilst the writer and dean geered and hitched the poney too the cart then drove over too my old place for a load of corn being quite warm to gather corn but has to be done Dean Costley and the writer drove over too the old farm for a load of corn and whilst there i cut Some brush on the fence row in order that could get through to Survey a portion of it and as it was so warm i could not Stand to work in Such a warm clost place So i made the work Short and got away from the place then gathered a load of corn after gathering the corn we drove down too Mr E E Melicans and taken the poney from the cart then Dean Costley rode the poney too the Bosque to water as Mr Mulican was taken his Stock to water after they returned from watering of the Stock in then fed him Some corn we then eat our noon meal, and getting through we taken a Short rest we then went to work and cleaned out the well on my old place when through Mr E E Mulican hitched up his team of mules and him and dean Costley drove up to Billey Blacks for a barrel of water whilst the writer drove home with the corn that dean Costley and i had gathered after arriving at home i taken the poney from the wagon taken the geer off of him then fed the poney i then prepared wood to burn in the Stove and brought it in doors to be handy. we then eat a cold Snack for our evening meal when all the familey were through we then put the Supper table all in good Shape again then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey W.E. Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas

Wednesday August the 27th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a warm clost morning wind from the South East the thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 70 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for buisiness the writer done the feed ing of the Stock then returned to the kitchen and Kindled the fire in the Stove then went to work and prepared our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table i then Seated my Self too the table then portaken of our morning meal as my wife and Lum Costley was not readey for there meals vitials not feeling very well this morning after i had eat my morning meal i caught then curried the poney geered and hitched him too my hack by that time Lum costley had eat his morning meal then him and i mounted in the hack then drove over to my old place for a load of corn and whilst C Costley gathered the corn the writer finished cutting out a road on the East part of my old farm in order for the Surveyor to run a line for the writer after getting through i returned back too my corn field and Lum Costley had the wagon loaded we then drove on home after arriving at home we taken the poney from the cart taken the geer off of him then gave him water and turned him in too the yard to cool as it was very warm and the writer went to work to assist my wife in prepareing our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same when through and the dinner table and contence cared for by my wife the writer the(n) fed and cared for the poney after getting through we taken a short rest after resting for a bit i then walked down too the post office for my mail and after getting of it i then steped in to John B Nichols and companeys Store and purchased a gallon of blue ribon Syrup and a bottle of ink paying fifty - five cts for both articles i then walked down to Curbows Store and whilst there there was aman drove up too his store and as he was a cotton byer Curbow bid 12 Dollars and 35 cts per hundred and the gentleman past on the neat bidder to See if he could get the first bid raised whether did or not i am not able to say for i then returned home and recorded the above being very warm at the time and it being 40 minutes after too oclock P.M. and at that hour the thermometer Registered at 102 Degrees tempature very warm with a low tempature of wind Stiring, untill about fore oclock in the after noon of to day, then the wind from the South blew Strong and brasing too the Sistem and then it was that the writer unloaded his cart of corn with the help of dean Costley after getting through i then done up my nights Schores and fed the poney and fowls we then eat our evening meal being a cold Snack and after eating and the table cared far we then taken a Short rest and departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of receiving a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey W.E. Thursday august the 28th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a clear bright day wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock, AM Registered at 69 Degrees Tempature The familey arose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for buisiness the writer then fed and cared for the poney then returned too the house and renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work and prepared the morning meal and after getting of it served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal then after the familey had satisfied there thirst for food and the breakfast table and content all put in good Shape we then proceeded too our occupation Such as gathering corn over on my place and halling it too where i live in Crawford as warm as it is we have to Stem the flood for it is the case with the writer root hog or Starve and my wife in her feeble Stage of life attended too her domestic work about the house, and done well to be able to do that much with a little assistance. the writer caught and geered the poney hitched him to my cart then drove for my old place on the north Side of Middle Bosque to gather a load of corn and after ariving at the place i then went to work and Soon loaded the hack and after getting of it loaded i then Started for Crawford the place where i now live and after arriving at home i taken the poney from the cart watered him then pull the geer off of the poney and fed him then returned too the house and eat our dinner as my wife had it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat after all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a considerable rest for a bout three hours then went to work again i unloaded my corn out of my cart then taken a rest for a bit, then went to work a gain, the writer walked down to the post office to get my male (mail) but got nothing but a fort worth paper then walked to the cold drink Shop and purchased Some ice to go into this hot arteasan water to cool it So we could drink it as it was too hot to drink with out being cooled. then met up with dean Costley and he brough the ice too the house for the writer then it was he cold the water down So it cold (could) be drank and the familey Shurley drank it all along the line to cool there parching tongue after getting Some what cool i then went to work, to remove Some Sheaf oats and after getting too the place that i wanted them i then unloaded my corn that i halled today and when through with that job i then cleaned out my Stable and lot and after getting of it raked up i then Set the trash on fire to get Shut of it we then eat our evening meal, as my wife had it on the table and announced readey to be eat after the familey was through and the Suppertable cared far we then moved in too our galery to get air for it was very warm this evening to be shure and at or or near 8 - oclock to night Dean Costley left Crawford to go to Waco Texas, as he has been in Crawford for Some too weeks or mor near on a viset to See the old folk at home in the town of Crawford, Texas, now as we are through with our work we will take a nother Short rest then to too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night W.E. Friday August the 29th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Am of to day Rigintered at 76 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work and then went to work and the writer first did the feeding of the Stock after getting through i then returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove and went to work and prepared our morning meal with the help of my wife and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of a portion of the Same after the familey was through with there morning meal my wife attended too the breakfast table and contents there of Lum Costley and the writher caught and geered the poney then drove over too my old place for a load of corn and after getting of the cart loaded we then drove back to Crawford texas after arriving at home we dismounted from our cart taken the poney from the cart taken the geer off of him then gave him water and turned him loose in the yard we then taken a rest as it appeared to be the warmest day of the Season very clost and warm and when rested i assisted in preparing of our noon meal and after getting the dinner on the table we Swated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and after all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then deliberately taken a good rest and Still very warn Sweltry to be hold and at or near one oclock this evening it began to thunder quite heavey in the north west and clouds heavey in that direction There has been gined in the town of Crawford up to august the 28th 1913 one hundred and forty bales of cotton and on the 29th day of August 1913 Cotton Sold at 12 1/2 cts per (100) pound in the town of Crawford Texas to day at or near three oclock this evening i rode over to Charley Bakers to go with him too my old pasture for a beef that i had Sold to him after arriving in the pasture, we Soon found the beef that we was after we then gave them Salt and the writer put the rope on the beef that i let him have we then led it to Crawford Texas. after arriving at Crawford we put her on the scales and the beef wayed 765 pounds i then returned home and put my poney in the lot then walked down too John Nichols Store and purchased a Sack of Salt also one gallon of carosene oil and a package of Arbuckle Coffee and sent them home by Nichols delivery wagon and i returned home and obtained a buckit then walked up to Jessey Ellis for Some milk after arriving at the place i found Jessey Ellises brother and young bride at her house they run away to day and was married i never learned where they were married at but between here and falls county Texas. and come up on the Santafe train this evening and the young man went to his Sisters Jessey Ellis to put up for a few days, i then returned home with the milk after arriving at home we eat our evening meal and after getting through i did my feeding of the poney when through with that part of the work i then brought in night wood to cook our meals vituals with I then taken a short rest as i was quite warm but we got the now we eat a cold Snack for our evening meal and when resting for Some bit we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night

Saturday august the 30th AD 1913 opened up quite a warm morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 72 Degrees tempature The familey arose some what earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer then fed the poney whilst Lum Costley renewed the fire in the stove to cook our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after all were through with there morning meal my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in goo shope whilst the writer caught watered and geered the poney then hitched him too the cart then drove over to John Bas(?) garden place in my pasture north of middle Bosque creek to take him a Sack of flour after delivering the flower i then drove up too my old farm to gather a load of corn after gathering my load i then drove for my place in new Crawford after arriving at home i taken the poney from my wagon and taken the geer off of him then gave him water then put him in the stable and fed him i then returned too the house washed and dryed my hands and face then my wife announced the noon me(al) ready to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal after we were through with our meal my wife went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer walked down too the post office to get my (mail) and to see one of Henry Blacks girls that was clerking for a Jew next door to John B Nichols and co Store. after getting through talking too the young lady i then returned home and taken a rest, for Some bit then went to work to record the days labors done by the family to day being four oclock P.M. of to day Thermometer at half past too oclock to day registered at 102 Degrees tempature, at four oclock this afternoon i began to unload my corn that i gathered in the fore noon of to day and finished at or near Sun Set to day after getting through i then pulled my wagon out of the lot around too my yard fence in order that it would be in the Shade in the warmest part of the day after getting the wagon out of the lot I then fed the poney and fowls when through with that part of the work we then eat our evening meal, as my wife had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat. after we were through and the Suppertable and content cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest, then it was that the writer finished recording of the days work then taken a Short rest and departed too our bed of repore with the hopes of getting a pleasant nights rest is the desire of the whole familey W.E. Sunday the Lords (d)ay we are commanded to keep it holey August the 31st being the last of August 1913 - Opened up quite a nice morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven Oclock this morning registered at 72 degrees tempature. The familey in general arose late this morning and after we were prepared for work the writer first fed the Stock and fowels then returned too the kitchen and prepared a fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal after the familey had finished ther morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared for my wife not being very well layed down (on) her bed to rest whilst the writer walked down to the east part of Crawford to see Dr. A.M. Armstrong to see how he is getting along as he has been down bed fast for some time with Rhumatoid pains and is just getting So he can be about the place but His daughter for ft. worth is down Sick at the Doctors house on a visit to see her parents. Dr A. M Armstrong after remaining for Some bit then returned home for a rest as it is a rest day being the Sabbath day of our Lord 1913. after resting i then went to work to record the labor that was done in the familey and weather up to about half past one oclock to day then taken a nother rest untill time to prepare out noon meal and the writer lay down on the bed to take a rest and during the time my wife Sliped out in too the kitchen and taken the advantage of the writer and prepared the noon meal all alone when She had Served it and placed on the table She then announced read(y) to be eat So the familey responded too the call Seated them Selves too the dinner table and portaken of there noon meal although being too oclock in the after noon of to day, after all had dined Sumtiously and the dinner table and contents cared far we then continued to rest and read and write to finish out the balance of the Evening being as it were the Sabbath day of our lord 1913 and after Six oclock P.M. in the evening i fed the poney and fowls we then eat our Evening meal after getting through with our Evening meal and the Supper table and contents we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest, then went for our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey

Monday September the first 1913 - Opened up quite a at or near Seven oclock A.M of to day Registered at 76 Degrees tempature with some prospect of rain soon as it has been Showering around for Several days and by so doing there is a prospect of Crawford princt to get a Showery Show as it goes the rounds The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer first and formost fed the poney and fowls then returned too the kitchen and Started a fire in the cook Stove and assisted in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of the morning meal Served and placed on the table then announced ready to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaking of our morning meal after the familey was through and the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape we then went too our dailey work as usual my wife too her house whole work and the writer to gathering corn over at my old place. as i Still had one more load to gather and then i am through for the present year. my corn has tyrned out quite well this Season to be as dry as it has been after geting the load of corne gathered i then drove for Crawford with my load of corn after arriving at home i taken the poney from the cart gave him water then led him i then returned too the house and eat my noon meal as my wife had it Served placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves at the dinner table all a lone and eat our noon meal as Lum Costley went to Waco on the pasenger train to day, after finishing of our noon meal my wife then went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer lay down on his bed for a rest and after resting for a bit i then a rose from my bed of rest and taken my pen in hand and recorded the labor done by the familey up to three oclock to day then taken a walk down too the post office for my mail but did not get aney (any) as it was what they call by law labor day. at any rate the post office was closed for the day onley (only) when the regular mail is brought in to be distrited (distributed ) too the people at the regular hour it is very warm this evening as it has been evry evening through July and August and up to the present time The Thermometer at half past three oclock this evening Registered at 98 Degrees tempature very warm but the South wind blows quite brisk and has alday long I gathered my last load of corn to day being September the 1st 1913 on my old place too miles North of the town of old or rather new Crawford Texas the Said farm located on the J.B. Robertson head Right of land on Middle Bosque in McLennan Coounty in the State of Texas. now at the late hour this evening i began to unload m(y) corn wagon and after getting of it unloaded i then returned too the house with a weak Spell on the writer and it taken Some little time to get Shut of it i had to take Something Sower ( slower ?) to get Shut of it as i am Subject to them, evry once and a while after it passed off of me we then eat our evening meal after we were through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights (rest) to night is the desire of the old people to night

Tuesday September the 2th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven Oclock in the morning to day registered at 74 Degrees tempature the familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning but after getting in rediness for labor the writer went to work and fed the poney then prepared the wood to burn in the Stove to prepare our morning meal by and brought it in doors and Started the fire in the cook stove we then went to work and prepared our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table and portaken of our morning meal after we were through and the breakfast table cared for we was in a qundary what to do but at last i come to the conclusion that i would take (a) rest day as i had been gathering corn and have just got through and not feeling very well from the heet (heat) of the Sun my wife though not very well is trying to run her house work as usual although feeling poorley all the while the cotton wagons keeps the dust to flying all the time makes it unpleasant in a town of any sise (size) eating dirt all the time whilst So dry as it has been Such a while Since a rain has fell in Crawford one can Sit in his house in Crawford and See how building going up in the town of Crawford evry day which Shows that Crawford is still growing in evry respect - but it does Seem that the cotton crop of Mclennan County is quite light this year to what it has been here too fore in former years that has past and gone the Lord onley know what the out come will be and no one else i am Shure as it gradually grows more Severe on the account of the like of more rain it Seems to me that the Seasons grows Shorter and much dryer than it use to be now after recording of the above i taken a walk down at the Show tent put up no great ways from where i live to See was going on after arriving at the Spot i find the Show man training of his little too year old girl to jump from a distant hight and to be caught in his arms and after remaining for a by i returned by Mr Dave Hicks where Mr Pickle and his Sone (Son) was building a barn for my Hicks to See how he was progressing with his work after arriving at the place i Soon found out that Mr Pickle and Sone was progressing nice with there work on Mr Hicks barn would Soon have the barne completed readey for Service and then he will go to work on another as there are maney a won to be built in and a round Crawford and Still the good work goes on as though nothing at or near half past one oclock P.M. this Evening we eat or (our) noon meal for to day prepared by my wife alone with out the help of any one after getting through and my wife had attended too her dinner table and contents all the Same we then taken advantage of the day for a nother rest as it was very warm at or near too o-clock to day and we taken the advantage of the warm weather to day althrough too warm to be comfortable and taken a short rest with a nap of Sleepe and after waken up it appeared that i felt much worse that i did before lying down to sleep my wife has not arose from her bed of repose yet to State how She come out with her nap but i Suppose about equal to mine it was So very warme one could not rest to do any good what ever but however we both managed to get a Short nap i am not feeling So very well this evening i am weak & feble to what i have been feeling here too fore caused by the excessive heet i Suppose, although being very warm to day the Sough wind has been quite Strong this evening as it has been quite cloudey in the eastern portion of the Elements this evening now as it is growning late and i have fed the poney and done up the nights Schores and not wanting our evening meal we will take a Short rest and go to our bed of repose with the popes (hopes) of getting a pleasant nights rest to night is the familes desire and we fourth ask of the Lord when done with us geare on earth to hand us down too our graves in peace with the and all man kind and in heaven Save us in the prayer of the writer to night a men. Wednesday September the 3dh AD 1913 Open (up) quite a morning with a prospect of a day wind from the Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 72 Degrees tempature The familey arise from there bed of repose Some what earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the cook Stove to prepare our morning meal by i ground and put the coffee on to boil then fed the poney and fowls and when through i returned too the kitchen and assisted my wife in prepareing our morning meal and after getting the morning meal Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal when through and the contents and table cared for we then went to work again at other work on the premises that had to be done the writer for his part had to go too the bosque Brakes for a load of Stove wood to burn in the cook Stove. After arriving at the woods the writer went to work and Soon choped and loaded his cart with wood then drove too Crawford Texas after arriving at home i then unloaded the wood then drove too my yard gate and taken the poney from my cart taken the geer off of him gave him water then tied him too a bunch of grass in my garden to eat it off as it Johnson grass not good to have a bout a field much as a garden then come in doors and taken a rest as it was quite warm and Still up too Eleven oclock to day from which arose brom the South and become much pleasanter then it were although quite warm with the wind blowing from the South and after my sife finished washing of her clothes She then went to work to prepare the noon meal for too old people as we are a lone as Lum Costley he being apart of the familey and he has gone too the city of Waco Started to Waco Tuesday September the 2th 1913 and is to return Thursday evening September the 4dh 1913 by railway on the Santafe R R. to Crawford at or near 12 - oclock noon to day my wife and the writer eat our noon meal and after getting through my wife went to work then put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain then the writer walked too the post office for my mail after abtaining of my mail i then walked in too Nichols and companeys Store and purchased a lot of Vinegar then returned home to take a rest and did take my usual rest before going to work a gain i then began to Shuck and Shell a turn of corn to go to mill down too Mcgregor to morrow Should i be well enough to go and the poney keeps alright i worked up till past the Sun Sett this evening i the(n) left off work and we eat a cold Snack for our evening meal and after we were through my wife attended too the Supper table and contents whilst the writer fed and cared for the poney after getting through i returned too the house lit my lamp then went to work to finish recording of our days labor and the weather as it has been Some cooler than it has been by the thermometer for it has onley registered 92 Degrees tempature to day now cotton has gone up today from 12 & 1/2 yesterday to past 13 cents today. and what it will be tomorrow it is hard to tell, we are having a Show last past night and are bill for tomorrow night but i am of the opinion that it not much of a Show from the move that they are making now as i am through i will go too my bed of repose hopping that the familey will get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night.

Thursday September 4th 1913 - opened up quite a cool morning as it turned much cooler in the latter part of the night but has made it up to dayfor it has been very warm there were no air Stiring untill about Eleven oclock in the fore noon of to day then is was the wind Spring up from the South Some what feble Thermometer at or near Seven oclock to day registered (top of pageTreecher Bowden is in bad health)
at 68 Degrees tempature The familey arose some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer first fed his poney then returned too the kitchen and Started the fire in the cook Stove then assisted in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat my wife and my Self as we constituted the familey as were all a lone we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through my wife then went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain whilst the writer caught and curried then geer the poney - hitched him too my buggy then drove too Mcgregor to mill as they can not grind corn at Crawford when the gins are running on the account of water after arriving at McGregor i could not get it ground to day as the mill was Standing Still but i Swaped it for other meal after obtaining of my meal i then drove up in too McGregor to See Mr Freeman about Surveying a piece of land for the writer to properly connect the lines to Said land in Shape to make a deed to the Same as it should be Mr Freeman promised to do the work a Monday September the 8th AD 1913 if nothing turned up to prevent him from coming to Crawford on day mentioned above. After getting through with Mr Freeman i drove down too the Depot to a wait the incoming pasenger train from Waco, as he (Lum) was talkin of coming out to Crawford to day So i Supose he remained in the City of Waco after finding out that Lum Costley did not come up to McGregor on the cotton belt pasenger i then drove down too hasises creek taken my horse out and fed him and eat my dinner as i had it with me and after getting through i taken a Short rest then hitched the poney too the buggy and drove for Crawford Texas, coming in at the Saddler place on Wasp creek and following on down Said Streem to the Jasper Brown place and did not find a drop of water in the creek and horses on Said Streem had not a drop of water in doors intirley with out water and the writer Starving for water also my poney to quench our thirst when i arrived at Neal McCollums just clost to Jasper Brown i Stoped at his place and was luckey enough to get a drink for my Self but not any for my poney and had to drive home at Crawford before i could get water for my poney and when i did get to water i had to give it to him by piece meals to keep him from drinking water too his heart gradually by degrees and after he had become cool and had drank water at intervals and his thirst i then fed him we then eat our evening meal and when through i then walked down to John B Nichols and co and purchased Some cooking oil also a lot of Irish Potatoes then returned home with my groceries and after doing up of my nights Schores we then taken a Short rest and afterwards departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of obtaining a quiet nights rest to night. is the desire of the old imates to night

Friday September the 5th AD 1913 - Opened up clear and bright wind from the north bids fare for a nother warm day at six oclock this morning the Themometer registered at 70 (?) Degrees tempature Some lower than it has been in Some time past The familey arose from our bed of rest this morning tolerably earley this morning then after getting prepared for buisiness the writer fed and cared for the poney and after getting through i returned too our kitchen then renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal when Served and on the breakfast table readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared for my wife went at her dailey advocation of life that is her house work and attending too her fowls whilst the writer walked down to meet the Gulf Colorado and Santafe morning train that was then due to meet C.C. Costley ( Christopher Columbus, Lum) as i were expecting him up from Waco Texas also Mr. Gee and Mrs Thtix (?) K Robertson our near neighbors in town came up on the Same train from Waco at least Mr William Gee was from Hill County where he had been to See his Sick Brother dying with Typhoas fever and is very low. hardley epected to live but reported him Some better this morning when he left his bed Side in hill County Texas and Still the good works goes on as though nothing had happened a cross the borders of the State at or near Eleven oclock in the fore noon of to day the writer and his wife went to work and prepared our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal having Lum costley to dine with the old folks to day as he had come home from waco after all were through and the dinner table and contents were cared far my wife taken a rest whilst the writer walked down too the post office for my mail and whilst there i come across Capton Jack Hill and he would have me to read the news for him and we occupied a bout too hours in reading the that has befelled in the unted States of a merica of the great ciclone that Swept over North Carolina and other States on the Second day of September AD1913 distroying thousands of Dollars worth of property by wind and water Some inlands on the ocean left bare and destitute of lives and property of all discription and after getting papers to read one from R V. Kind a wack paper and one by Sam Clary a Houstin paper both full of news of distruction from tornadoes and other ways of trouble and distress, and after returning home i Seated my Self down at my writing table and recorded the above then went to work and done up my nights Schores then weat (we eat) a cold Snack for our evening meal and after putting the supper table and contents all in good Shape we moved in too our front galery for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hooping to receve a good nights rest to night

Saturday September the 6th AD 1913 - Opened up with a dark cloud in the South west resembling a change in the weather wind in the South west earley in the morning Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 78 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what late this morning , and when prepared for work the writer fed and cared for the poney and fowls then prepared Stove wood to cook with brought it in doors and Started the fire in the Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table and then portaken of our morning meal and after the familey were through, my wife then went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape then went to work at her domestic afares in her house and other work to be done a round the house and the writer caught curried and geered the poney then hitched him too my cart then drove too my pasture to establish a corner to my land joining Ed Costleys land on the north side of the Bosque creek and to Salt and look after the cattle that was in my pasture in examening around i found that part of the cattle were missing and the writer lit out a foot in pursuit of them and found them west of my pasture over on the Bosque on the Felix Robinson Side of the creek i drove them too my pasture and turned them in too the Same then got them to gether and gave them Salt and a Sack of Shucks i then loaded on a load of wood that i had cut in the morning and then drove for my place in Crawford Texas after arriving at home i taken the poney from the cart taken the geer off of him then gave him water put him in his Stable then fed him corn i then returned too the house washed my hands and face as it was very warm as the thermometer at that hour was up to a hundred and Six i then eat my dinner being too oclock in the evening of to day. after getting through my wife then put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a rest for Some bit as the evening was extreemely warm after resting for a while i then walked down too the post office for my mail and received a letter or rather posted card from Ada Costley of Waco Texas, i then taken a Stroll down in to town to See was going on in the buisness part of the town, after arriving at the place i found buisiness being carried on in a buisiness like manner Streets full of cotton with a downward grade on the farmer at $12.50 and $12.65 per hundered and murehandise going at 52 per cent on the Dollar up on good wears and Merchandise evry thing on the traid line on a boom and the Town full of people after watching the movement of the people and the trade that was going on for ever So long i returned home with a Waco paper that R.q. King gave me of the damage of the Town at the hot Spings of Arkansas on the 5th day of September AD 1913 burning down one mile and a half of Soled blocks of houses and the damage is estimated at ten million dolars worth of property lost fifty blocks laid waist and too thousand homeless people is the Story of the most distructive conflafration which ever viseted the city or State during the Settling of the State of Arcansas. now i returned home and as it was growing late i went to work and done up my nights Schores afterwards we eat our evening meal that my wife had Served for the familey, and after the familey had eat there evening meal, my wife went to work and put her Supertable and contents all in good Shape again we then moved in too our East galery and taken a rest as it was very warm and after a long rest we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E. Sunday September the 7th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a dark gloomey wintery morning wind from the South East blowing brisk this morning Thermometer at an earley hour this morning Registered at 78 Degrees tempature although the wind blowing so cool and damp. The familey arose quite late this morning but after getting in Shape for work the writer first fed the poney and fowels then returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served then placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then eat of the Same when all were through and the table and contents cared far my wife as usual and as a rule went to work then put her breakfast table and content all in good Shape again then it was we taken a Sabbath days rest as it is the Lords day and a day of rest and we are commanded to keep it holey but who is it that does it not one in my knowing that i can call to mind and a hard Saying it is, now at or near Eleven oclock a m today my wife began her noon meal and at or near 12-oclock noon today She announced the Same readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal after all were through and the dinner table and contents were cared for we then continued our Sabbaths days rest now the beginning of to day resembled a winter day in feeling and in looks but the heet Sprand up about too oclock this evening and become quite warm as the Thermometer went up to 90 Degrees tempature a long in the Evening and become very warm but the South East wind Kept up all the while all through the day, which made it Some better on the inhabitance of the town and country both combined to gether. now as it is growing late i will go to work and do up my nights Schores and after getting through we eat a cold Snack for our evening meal then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of having a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old folks at home W.E. Monday September the 8th AD 1913 - Opened up a cloudey morning wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 74 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what earley and after getting prepared for work the writer then fed his poney then the fowls and when through i then returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of the morning meal for the familey after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after eating of our morning meal and my wife had cared for the breakfast table and the content of the Same all went to work for the day. my wife too her house work and C.C.Costley went to work at his old occupation doing nothing on accout of not being able to get about, and the writer caught and geered the poney hitched him too my buggy then drove down in too Crawford and Spent a bout too hours wating for General Robinson to come from his farm as he was wanting to be with Mr Freeman who was going to run Several lines of my land to day and at a bout ten oclock to day he returned from his farm then it was he mounted in too Mr Freeman buggy in Companey then rode over on the north Side of Midle Bosque he run three lines of the land we then left off work and drove to Crawford for our dinner and after eating of our noon meal we drove back too the land that we were Surveying and run three more lines then returned and the writer paid him for his work that he done for the writer to day and the Surveyor John Freeman returned to McGregor late in the evening the place where he now lives and the writer put his poney in the lot gave him water and feed, then went indoors and we eat our evening meal as my wife had it on the table readey to be eat after the familey was through with there evening meal and the Supper table was cared far by my wife, we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest about that time it began to rain from the South west it did not, rain at Crawford but little but on the Bosque and on my old place i(t) rained a very goot rained a very good rain So much So it Stoped all hands from work i am of the opinion that it rained a fine rain up around Osage in Coryell County Texas as the heavey lightng and thunder lay in that direction, now as we are through with our days labors we will go too our bed of repose with the hopes of getting a quiet nights rest to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas

Tuesday September the 9th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a gloomey damp morning wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this evening registered Seventy fore Degrees tempature The familey this morning arose Some what late in the day and when prepared for work the writer fed and cared for the poney and when through i returned to the kitchen and prepared a fire in the cook (stove) then wen tot work and assisted my wife in prepareing our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table, we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after we were through with our morning meal my wife went to work and her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst C.C. Costl4ey geered and hitched the poney to the cart whilst the writer walked down too Nichols and companeys Store and paid Win Nichools and companey fifteen Dollars and Seventy Six cents then returned home then mounted in too the cart and drove over too my old place but after arriving at my old home i found out that it had rained too much to gather corn So i drove back to Ed. Costleys farm and cut a lot of Johnson grass for my poney then loaded it on too my cart then drove too Crawford Texas where i now live after arriving at home i taken the poney from my cart taken the geer off of him then gave him water then put him in my lot and first fed him some of the grass that i had brought home with me i then walked too my house abtained my walking Stick then walked down to Nichols and company Store and purchased three cans of Sausage and returned home and my wife prepared a couple of the ingrediance that was inside of too of the Boxes for our noon meal So She Soon had our noon meal and after eating our noon meal and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a rest as it Seemed in apearance as though it might rain and did rain beginning at or near three oclock this evening a Slower Shower began to fall with heavey lightning and thunder in the South west and North, and Still concontinue to thunder in various directions and kept it up untill a bout half past three oclock PM of today. then ceased again the Shower was lite in Crawford this Evening , but Seemed to be raining quite hard South South west and north west, but the balance of the evening remained damp with a cool South wind blowing with Thermometer Standing at 84 Degrees tempature at or near fore oclock P.M. of to day at or near Six oclock this evening the writer began to feed his Stock and prepare wood for the Stove to cook with then brought the Same in doors to cook with by that time my wife had her evening meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same and after getting through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night

Wednesday September the 10th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cloudey day wind from the south west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock A. M. Registers at 74 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for buisiness the writer attended too feeding of the poney and fowls then returned too my kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Self too the Same then eat our morning meal and after all were through my wife went to work and put the breakfast table and content all in good Shape again we all taken a rest as we could do but little in the way of buisiness and it was very cloudey and a misting rain occasionley. just enough to keep any one working out doors and we have nothing to do indoors onley cook and Eat, the news come to Crawford to day of the death of Waller S. Baker he Died Sudently in San Fransisco California on September the 8th 1913 and will be brought to Waco for Burrial another great and good man departed this life leaving Several Bothers and Sisters and a lonley wife and a host of friend to morne his death he dies in the bloom of life like maney others, at or near Eleven oclock A M my wife began to prepare our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and when through with our noon meal and the dinner table and contents cared far we then continued to take a rest as the day apeared unfavorable not a day fit for out door work. So we will have to content our Selve by Staying in doors and confine our Selves to reading and writing to keep our Selves employed in Some Kind of buisiness or other as it is the most of the time a dark gloomey day at times the Sun comes out and becomes very warm in deed It began to thunder in the South East as though it mite rain Soon again as there is a dark cloud in that direction in fact the hole Elements is decked with clouds but much more So in the South East as that is where the thunder is located at this writing it began at 20 minutes past one oclock PM of today to thunder, and the Thermometer at that time Registered at 88 Degrees tempature, not So high as it has been a few days back at or near three oclock PM of to day the writer walked down in too the buisiness part of Crawford to See what was going on in city of after arriving in the most business part of the town i Seen but little doing as the mist of rain has checked the cotton pickers and that checked the buisiness of all kind in trade and but few people in town, and but little doing any way and after gassing around a mong the boys for Some little fit i then returned home to enjoy the lovly breese that was blo(wing) from the South east at or near fore oclock in the afternoon of today and as the time grew later in the evening i walked in too my garden and did Some work in clearing off some corn Silk to Soe Some turnup Seed on by the time the next Shower comes on us. as it has not rained enough as yet for the buisiness of planting Seed of any kind but i have been prepareing the ground this evening by cutting down cornstalk and putting them in a pile in order to burn them to get them out of the way and worked up to near night fall then left off work and fed and watered the poney then brought in the Stove wood that C.C.Costley cut for the writer, we then Eat our our evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat, after all were through, my wife taken care of the dining table and contents of the Same, then it was that we moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get agood nights rest to night in the desire of the familey

Thursday September the 11th 1913 - Opened up quite a cloudey damp morning wind from the South Thermometer Registered at 74 Degrees tempature, The familey arose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work the writer did the feeding of the poney then returned too the house then renewed the fire in the Stove then assited my wife in prepareing of our morning meal after getting of the morning meal Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after the familey was throught and the breakfast table and contents cared for we then went too other work but my wife Stuck too the house work for it was about all the work that She can do She being Some what weakley and disabled to do much work of any kind what ever but the old bose at this time is able to do the hardest of work and does do it. now as the atmosphere is So heavey and being So cloudey and damp the writer will endeaver to Sctatch in Some turnup Seed with the poney and & double Shovel for that is a bout all i can do as the ground is So hard as it is getting Some what late for the buisiness, So if the people wants turnups this fall and winter they have to be up and doing and that write a way for a Stich in time Saves nine Well i began to pick up my corn stalk and piled them out of the way at Eight oclock this morning and at nine AM of to day i finish cleaning off my turnup patch then Sowed the ground down in winter turnup Seed, and plowed up too Eleven oclock and had to hold up on account of a Shower of rain and after it was over with i then went to plowing in the turnup Seed and finished at or near one PM Oclock then turned out and watered and fed the poney. we then eat our noon meal as my wife had prepared and placed on the table readey to be eat we then eat our noon meal my wife went to work and prepared and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a long rest as it began to rain from the west a hard Shower at or near 40 minutes past Eleven oclock in the morning and rained for 20 minutes then droped down to a Slow dripping rain and continued to rain Slow for a bout 40 minutes then Stacked up and past over Eastward making a very good rain at last and at or near half past three oclock this evening there was a heavey cloud formed east and South with a heavey cloud and also very heavey thunder with heavey rain in site and after remaining in that direction it moved out westward and began to Shower a gain at 15 minutes a past fore oclock P.M. this evening with a good prospect of a good rain at the town of Crawford in the State of Texas at this hour being 40 minutes past 4 - oclock this Evening it is raining down just write to wet the ground Slow and a regular which is a great blessing Sent too the people that receives it over the land and country, as the water is getting So Scarse and the Earth So parched up an broke open but the blessing that is Sent will be a releaf both to man and beast and enriching of land a gain now it is neering night fall and at intervals it keep Spitting rain drops from the clouds and the clouds looks heavey and Storm ey as though there a gale of wind passing a round north ward as that is the direction of the thunder north east ward as the heaviest of the clouds are traveling in that direction of the North East as Spoken of by the astronimers in the fore cast of the weather prophet Mr Foster. now as the day is far Spent and the night Schores are all done up and we have eat our evening meal and taken our usual rest we will go too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night. now it Seems as the rain has come and gone we feel very thankful too the Lord for the blessing that have been bestowed on the people bestowed on our land and country for the rain that has fell on our land country. Friday September the 12th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a damp from the rain that fell at Crawford on the 10th day of September AD 1913 - wind this morning is from the north Thermometer at or near Seven o clock A M Registered at 74 Degrees tempature The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and when propared for work the writer then fed and cared for the poney and fowls then as usual returned too the house and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the breakfast table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after the familey was through and the breakfast table cared far we then went too our dailey work my wife too her needle work in doors whilst the writer walked in too his garden and picked a lot of peas for my wife and by the time that i had picked one gallon it began to rain from the east and drove the writer out of the field or garden rather as it began a Sturday Slow rain, Enough So as to Keep one drenching wet So that Stoped the writer for a while at least now it is a bout ten oclock and Still raining Slowley, just enough for the Eart(h) to take it up as it falls as the Earth is So extreemley dry and cracked open but the last few rains will Soon fill them up then the grass and other vegetables will Start to growing all right as they have not been able to grow but little this Summer on the account of the drouth during the year 1913 - Now to day being Friday September the 12 1913 I deaded my old place on the North Side of Middle Bosque being a part of the J.B.Robertson head right and a part of the Charles More Survey Joined on the North Side of the J.B. Robertson leage of land 4840 acres what is termed a Leage and Labor of Land was deeded to him in the first Settling of the State of Texas. as a permanant Settler of Texas in an early day of the Settling of texas, after finishing up writing a deed to my old place Lum Costley popped Some pop corn and we Shurley had a bate out right and it was Shurley fine pop corn and it all poped nicely to be Sure Snow flake was its color now it has put in the greater part of to day raining and constant just fast enough for the ground to take it up and it did do So as the Earth was so dry to begin on as the earth in agreat maney places had busted open and was in bad Shape at the best but Since the good rains evry thing is alright and prosperous, the greatest part of the rain to day was from the north and the north wind blew quite cool and damp alday long and Still blowing to night with a mist of rain accompaning the Same now as we are through with the Schores a round the place and we have eat our Evening and the Supper table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bedroom for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get aquiet nights rest to night is the desire of the whole familey to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas

Saturday September the 13th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a damp cool morning as it has been raining for the last few days wind from the North with a Slow continuous Slow rain falling and have been for the last too days and nights past from the north and other direction Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 60 Degrees tempature The familey arose quite late this morning on the account of the rain that was falling from the north and being So damp and cool Something Similar to a winter morning in its nature but after being prepared for work the writer first prepared a fire in the cook Stove then put the coffee on the Stove to make i then fed the poney and fowls then returned too the kitchen and assisted my wife in prepareing our morning meal and after getting of it served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after the fam(ily) was through with there morning meal and my wife had cared for her breakfast table and the contents of the Same we could onley content our Selves in doors for there was nothing that we could do out doors for the continuous rain that was falling at this writing being at or near nine oclock this morning but whilst the writer was idol i recorded the above of the condition of the weather also the labors done by the familey this morning then we all taken a rest as the weather Still remained fowl untill time to prove our noon meal and when the time come we went to work and Soon fixed it up and eat the Same and when through is Setting the dinner table and contents in order we could do nothing else but remain in doors Still as it kept on Showering again up to about one oclock PM. from which it ceased to Shower onley at intervals Still wind blowing from the north and when it come time to Eat our evening meal i eat a cold Snack for our Supper and Still the inclement continued we then taken a nother rest for Some bit and departed too our bed of repose hoping fo(r) a peasful (peaceful) Slumber to night is the desire of the familey to night at a bout one oclock this evening it ceased to rain which the whold time it rain at this spell was from Thursday at 12 - oclock up to Saturday following at 12 - oclock making 48 hours aften and on Slowley wetting of the ground about 4 inches in debth, and yet the norther keeps up and very wet and damp and thick cloudey.

Sunday a rest day September the 14th AD 1913 - opened up quite a damp wet cool morning wind Still from the North blowing damp and cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registers at 57 Degrees tempature. The familey arose from our bed of repose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for buisiness the writer Started the fire in the fire place for the Second time Since last Spring and that was last past night i Started the fire in the in the fire place being quite cool damp and wet it Shurley was a wintery looking spell, to be so early in the fall, as the Thermometer went down to 60 Degrees tempature the lowes(t) that it has been Since last Spring 1913 and after getting prepare(d) for buisiness the writer first and formast i then fed the poney then returned too our kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it prepared we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after the familey were through my wife and the writer taken care of the breakfast table and contents there of then moved in too our Sittin room for a Short Rest as it wer(e) Set a part by the higher power for to rest in for Six days thou Shalt work and the Seventh day thou Shalt rest and a good law Set a pat(h) for man and beast to rest, in for it takes that much rest to be able to stand the Six days labor, But it Seems that the present generation cares not to heed the law, of God what ever. Now ther is but little change in the weather from yestarday as it is very dark and cloudey and the mist of rain fell all through the night and the north wind and the mist Still continues to go on at its regular rate as it has been for the last few days about fore days in number and Still continues to drive a head as though nothing had hapened making a Splended Season in the ground just what is neaded at present as all the moisture is a bout drawed out of the ground by the rays of the Sun and the like of water on the ground to inrich the Earth as it Should be now as it has been a very unfavorable day we have been clost in doors all day untill late this evening as we eat our evening meal quite late to day mixing our diner and evening together and making one out of it when through i done up my evening chores and after getting through we taken a good long rest, then we departed. too our bed of repose hopeing to get a good nights to night is the desire of the inhabitance of the familey to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas.

Monday September the 15th AD 1913 - Opened up Some what a cool cloudey morning dreary morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 74 Degrees tempature now the weather was So damp the familey arose Some what late but after prepareing our Selves for our days labors the writer then fed the poney with corn and oats in the Sheaf i then returned too the house and we taken a Short rest then taken a Spell of prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves to the table and portaken of our morning meal and when through the writer then went to work and put the breakfast table and its contents all in good Shape again then put the and dining room in good Shape as my wife was Some what poorley this morning and able to do much of any thing what ever after getting through i then Seated my Self down at my writing table and recorded what had been done on the premises up to nine oclock A M of to day i then taken a walk down too the post office for my mail and to mail Some letters that we had wrote too our children although very disagreeable muddy times it is just now from the raines that has fell here lately and the norther that has been blowing for the last three days past and Still remaines with the people of McLennan County Texas a swell as other places in other countries too numerous to make mention of and Still the good words goes on but the cotton picking Stands Stead fast all a lone. my wife appears to be Some better as She was alding all through the last past night. The Sun come out and Showed its self Eleven oclock AM of to day for the first time Since last thursday at a Eleven oclock when the heavey clouds Shut her in making for days that its light on the Earth from the Eyes of man or beast but this being Monday September the 15th 1913 - the first Spell of the Season of such a period now at about 12-oclock noon today the writer then began to prepare our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same all too my wife She drank Some gruel Sitting in front of the fire in our bed room, and after Lum Costley and the writer had eat our noon meal the writer then went to work and put the contents and dining table all ingood Shape again then taken a Short rest i then cought curried and Saddled the poney then mounted on the poney and rode over too my old pasture on the North side of the Middle Bosque to See about my cattle and after arriving at my pasture i so(o)n Seen that my Stock was out again I then went over across the Bosque to See if i could See anything of the Stock but i Seen nothing of them i then rode back home at Crawford and after arriving at home i taken the Saddle off of my poney put him in the lot then fed him i then prepared wood for the fire place and cook Stove then brought it in doors So that ended my days work we then eat a cold Snack for our evening meal Lum Costley and the writer as too my wife She did not eat at the table but drank Some gruel in front of the fire place as she did not want to go too the dinner table to Eat having dinner and Supper together now as i am through we taken a rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night

The familey a rose, from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer then fed the poney and the fowls then returned too the kitchen then renewed the fire in the Stove, and began to prepare our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we that is the familey Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and after getting through the writer then went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all ingood Shape a gain and as it was So disagreeable withe travel on account of being So muddy one could do no better than to remain in doors and whilst in doors i did the house work for my wife as she was quite poorley not able to do much of anything around the place just now and after getting through i then went to work and finished my letter to J.M. Costley and wife Mrs Mattie Costley at Energy Texas in the west end of hamilton county Texas and when through i then walked down too the post office and mailed my letter to them also a Small package of winter turnup Seed, in order that they can raise Some turnups to eat and by that time it was growing late and when i returned home i then watered and fed the poney then returned in doors and recorded the labors that has ben done by the familey to day up too half past Eleven oclock today i then went to work and prepared our noon meal Frank Borough to day presented me a gray horse Said to be 18 years old about 16 hands high as a present to keep as long as i live and Should i dy first he is to have the horse back again but Should the horse dy first he is considered to dy as my property and i agree to care and treat the above describe animal with all porticillar care as a dumb beast and use him gentney and favor him in evry respect as a live piece of property as long as Said horse lives signed Frank Burow and W.E.Costley after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same when through the writer went to work and put the dinnere table and contents all in good Shape again about that time Mrs Bob Coffman came in to See my wife and remained a good portion of the Evening with my wife whilst the writer caught Saddled the poney and rode over too my old place to take Mr Mulicans Some turnup Seed to Soe to Sow broadcast after delivering the Seed i remained with the croud for Some time as Mr Kimbal and too other young men were at Mr Mulicans to See him on a horse trade after Staying Some little bit i then returned home by Mr Frank Billman to See where old man Johnson was as i were evanling(?) to give him lease (?) and as he was not at home i then come on home and after arriving at home i then taken the Saddle off of the poney in the lot then walked down too Nichols and companey Store and purchased a lot of irish potatoes Some Soap and a gallon of carosene oil and Some candey i then returned (to the) house and went to work to prepareing our evening meal and after Serving of the Same i then fed the Stock and prepared Stove wood to cook our morning meal with and brought it indoors we then we Seated our Selves down to the Supper table then portaken of our evening meal and when through the writer taken care of the Supper table and contents of the Same we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey - W.E. Wednesday September the 17th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cloudey morning wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 69 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning as the Familey was not very well this morning but after arising from our bed of repose and getting prepared for work the writer as he was chief cook and bottle washer first fed the Stock then returned too our kitchen and renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work and prepared the morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we seated our Selves too the breakfast table then por taken of our morning meal and when the familey was through with there morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then went too our dailey occupation what we have been following for the last few days doing nothing what ever as the weather has been too Severe to be out of doors and Still this morning not much prospect of being any better Soon very wet and cool for the time of the year but however we have it to Stand let it be good or bad we are compelled to take it as it comes let it be good or indifferent it is all the Same at any rate at Seven oclock this morning it had great appearance of more rain to fall Soon The writer after the morning meal was over with caught watered then Saddled Mr Johnsons poney then put a rope on the horse frank Bur gave too the writer then mounted my Self on the poney and rode over to Mrs Sams farm leading my horse to take the poney to Mr Johnson over on Midle Bosque after arriving at the place i delivered the poney up to Mr Johnson then rested for a bit i then put my Saddle on my new horse mounted my Self on him and rode back home after arriving at home i then taken the Saddle off of my horse gave him water and fed him then returned in doors with a Squirrel that Perry Sterling gave me for my wife then Lum Costley and i taken the hide off of it and Lum cut it up and put it on the cook in order to have Squirrel for dinner and the writer cooked the potatoes and made coffee as we had bread alreadey cooked readey for eating my wife is boss in the cooking today as She has been Some what puney fo(r) a few days past and during of the time the writer was boss of evry thing for i had to do the cooking all the same now when the dinner was Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and after all were through and the dinner table cared far we then taken a rest as the weather was So unfavorable that there was not no great deal to be done a round the place and can not venture out to work as it looks in appearance as thought it might rain evry minute but has not yet, after eating of our noon meal i then walked down too the postoffice to get my mail and after receiving of it i then returned home and recorded our days labors that has been performed by the familey to day up to three oclock to day then Lum Costley taken a ride over too the Bosque Creek as he has not been on a horse in a couple of years or more and made the trip alright for the first time, whilst the writer was engaged at writing out Some land notes and prepareing wood for the cook Stove and bringing of it in doors i then fed the horse as Lum had returned home with the horse we then eat a cold Snack for our evening meal then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of a good nights rest tonight

Thursday September 18 AD 1913 - Opened up quite a clear bright cool morning for the first in a bout ten day wind this morning from the North with a heavey dew Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 60 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the writer then fed and cared for the horse and fowls, then returned to the kitchen and prepared the fire in the Stove and went to work and prepared the morning meal with the assistance of my _ after preparing of the Same and placing of it on the breakfast table we Seated our Selves down at the table then portaken of our morning meal and when the familey were through we went to work then put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again then returned too our dailey advocation of life The writer then caught watered and geered his poney or horse rather as the poney that i had in charge i have returned him too his owner and i have now a horse of my own and drove over too the Middle Bosque for a load of wood for my Self and to take C.C.Costley (Lum) over too Ed Costleys farm an the Bosque to chop Some Johnson grass after arriving at his farm i then left him and drove back and the South Side of the Bosque for my load of wood after getting of it choped and loaded on i then drove for my place in the Town of Crawford Texas and after arriving at home i taken the horse from the hack gave him water then taken the geer off of him and fed him then returned too the house washed my hands and face and dried them about that time Thomas Stirling and his wife and kid drove up to take dinner with the old people and when the noons meal was Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then we portaken of our noon meal after we were through with our noon meal and the Dinner table and contents all cared far we then taken a Short rest then Town (Tom) Stirling drove down in too the Old Crawford lane and hitched and drawed out a old broke down wagon of A O Jourdans of Crawford a banker whilst the writer caught curried then put the geer on my horse hitched him to my hack then drove over too Ed Costleys farm after Lum Costley as he went over too Ed Costley farm to top Some Johnson grass after getting of him we drove back on the South Side of Middle Bosque for the wood after getting wood choped and loaded on too my cart then drove for my place in Crawford Texas after arriving at home we dismounted from the cart i then taken my horse from the cart then taken the geer off of him gave him water then fed him i then prepared wood for the cook and brought it in doors to be handey we then Eat our evening meal and after getting through my wife attended too her Supper table and contents of the Same we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too or bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night W.E. Friday September the 19th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a clear morning day wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 60 Degrees tempature The family arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer then fed and cared for his horse and fowls then returned too kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove and went to work and assisted in Serving of our morning meal and after prepareing of the Same and plasing of it on the table and announced readey to eat we Seated our Selves too our breakfast table then eat our morning meal, when through and the breakfast table cared far we then prepared our Selves for our days work. The writer caught then geered and Saddled his horse then mounted on him then rode over too my old place to gather Some corn for my E E Mulican i i were owing his Some work and i Set in to pay him the work that i ow him and g?d worked near my turning out time five oclock in the evening then Saddled my horse and rode home after arriving at home i then taken the Saddle off of my horse and fed him and returned too the house and we that is the familey eat a watermelon that i raised in my garden and was about the Sweetest watermelon that i ever eat that is it apeared to me to be that away. and in a Short time after wards we eat our evening meal as my wife in her feblemess prepared our Evening meal and after announcing the meal readey we Seated our Selves too the Suppertable then portaken of our evening meal and the Suppertable and content of the Same we then moved in too our bed room then taken a Short rest and during of the time the writer recorded our days labors to day and the weather as it has been a noble day for work bright and clear all the way through now as i am through with my work for to day we will go too our bed of repose hoping to rest well to night is the desire of the familey to night

Saturday September the 20th AD 1913 - Opened up a morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 66 Degrees tempature. The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning as the old folks are getting too old for that kind of Buisiness but after arising from our bed of repose and prepareing our Selves for buisiness the writer first and formost fed his horse and fowls then returned too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after gettin the meal Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after the familey was through with our morning meal my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and content all in good Shape again whilst Lum Costley went with James Taber to pick cotton and the writer then caught and geered his horse put the geer on him hitched him too my double Shovel then drove over too Mr Lee Hickersons and plowed in a lot of turnup Seed and after getting through i then drove back too my house then went to work and cut down five rows of corn Stalks and piled them out of the way and Sowed Some turnup See(d) on the Space that i cleaned up and plowed them in with my gray horse that Frank Burow gave me after getting through i then drove too the house and taken my horse loose from the plow gave him water then taken the gee(r) off of him and fed him we then Eat our dinner as my wife had it Served and place on the table and announced readey to be eat and when through my wife went to work and put the diner table and contents all in good Shape again. the writer then caught and Saddled his horse then mounted my Self on him and rode over too my old pasture too look for Some Stock that we had in the pasture but did not find a hoof in the pasture all out i would Supose i then returned home in the town of Crawford after arriving at home i taken the Saddle off of my horse the truned him in my lot come in doors and obtained a Shupon to draw Some money out of the bank after obtaining of the paper i returned to the farmers Bank and drew forty Dollars then returned to my place and loned the money to Tom Sterling for 12 months from date at ten percent interest frome date being September the 20th AD 1913 then he departed too his place of abode and the writer Spent the balance of the Evening in reading the news in the waco paper, about the deeds that are being commited all over the State and other States in the union and when through i then went to work and done up my night chores and when through we then Eat our evening meal after getting through my wife went to work then put her Suppertable and contents all in good Shape again we then moved in too our bedroom by a good fire as it was quite cool as the north wind has been Strong alday, and plenty cool enough for a fire to night and after resting for Some bit we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights to night is the desire of the familey

Sunday September the 21st AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for labor the writer first fed his horse and fawls then returned in doors and assisted my wife in propareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table the eat our morning meal and after all the familey were through my wife went to work then put her morning table and contents all in good Shape g g we then taken up our old custom resting on the Sabbath day as it is the Lords day and a day of rest given for man and beat (beast) which is a great blessing for both Sides of the question for it is reasonabley Suppose after each working have all week that they would one day to rest in all any rate we do provide our three meals vituals on the Sabath day then feed our Stock and give then water but refrain from hard labor as much as posible only when nesearty Calls us to do the work of Necesity and compell to do. now at or near 12 - Oclock noon today my wife had her noon meal Served and placed on the dinner table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our noon meal after the familey had Satisfied there thirst for food my wife then went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape again we then move in too our sitting room to contunue our rest for to day but as the writer had his horse tied in the garden to eat on a large cluster of Johnson grass on the dividing line between Mr E.D. Costley and Mr Alex Armstrong i brought him out of the garden gave him water then fed him corn i then returned too the house and Set in to finish my part of the days rest this has been a beautiful day all the way through as it has been bright and clear all the way through and the Sky has been bright and clear not a cloud to be Seen in the elements and the wind as Still as death hardley a leaf moving this afternoon of to day. untill late in the evening from which it Sprang up from the The writer at a late hour this evening walked up to old man Stirlings a while to See how he was getting a long. Monday September the 22th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 52 Degrees tempature the familey arose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for work the writer then fed his horse and fowls when through and the table cared far we went to work then prepared our morning meal after Serving of the Same and placing of it on the table then announcing the Same readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the Breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal after all were through we then prepared our Selves for diferent work too be shure the writer then walked down in the East part of Crawford to See Parson Henariseson ? to See if he Still wanted his lot Sowed down in wheat after arriving at his place i Soon found out that his wheat was not Sowed i then returned back home caught then geered my horse hitched him too my double Shover or rather my one horse plow then drove down to Parson Handrorson ? of Crawford and plowed in his lot a wheat then broke his garden as he was anxious for both to be done after getting through i then drove for my place after arriving at home i then taken my horse from my plow and taken the geer off of him then gave him water i then fed my horse and when through i returned too the house washed and dried my hands and face then we eat our noon meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat, after our familey was through eating of the noon meal my wife went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a Short rest then the writer caught and geered his horse then hitched him too my cart then Lum Costley and the writer mounted our Selves in too the cart i then drove for my old place on the north Side of middle Bosque creek and when we arrived at the Bosque Lum Costley dismounted from the cart and went in to ED Costleys farm to cut the heds of Some Johnson grass that had Seeded out and the writer drove on over too my old farm to pull down Some corn and after arriving at the place i dismounted from my cart then tied my horse and went to pulling corn and pull down corn untill near Sun down i then left off work and drove for my place in the town of Crawford Texas Stopping at the Bosque for to get C C Costley ( Lum) then we then drove on home after arriving at home we then dismounted from the cart taken the horse from the cart taken the geer off of him gave him water then fed him i then returned too the house and we then eat our Evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat after the familey were through with there evening meal my wife then attended too the evening table and put evry thing in good Shape again we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest and during of the time the writer recorded the labor done by the familey to day this has been a beautiful clear day but the wind has been very Strong all day through and is Still high from the South at ten oclock to night but clear and bright not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements all through the day now as i am through i will go too my bed of repose hoping to get a quiett night rest to night is the desire of the familey

Tuesday September 23dh AD 1913 Opened up Sum what a cloudey morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 64 Degrees tempature The familey was quite late this morning in a rising from our bed of repose and after getting prepared for work the writer fed and cared for the horse and fowls when through i then prepared wood for the Stove to cook our morning meal then Started the fire then went to work to assist my wife in preparing of our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of our morning meal when through and the breakfast table and contents was cared far my wife went to ironing Some Clothing C.C. Costley as he was going to waco on the noon train, and the writer caught and geered his horse and hitched him too his turning plow then drove in too Mrs Armstrongs garden near by and broke garden She planted Some onions Sets during of the time after getting through i then left my plow as Alex Armstrong wanted the writer to Sow and plow in Some wheat for him i then led my horse home and hitched him up to a post then taken Lum Costley valease too the Depot for him then returned home and put the horse in the lot then fed and watered him i then returned home or rather house and taken a rest for a bit to a wait my noon meal and did not have to wait no great while untill my wife had the noon meal Served and placed on the table readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal when through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest and then lit out to work again all but my wife as She is not able to do but little work at this present time The writer caught and geered the poney hitched him to my plow the plowed in Alex g (garden) yard Sowed down in wheat after getting through i then drove home pull the geer off of my horse and turned him loose in my lot i then taken a walk down in too Crawford to get a bucket of Sweet potatoes at J.B.Nichols costing 35 cts also a bucket of Iris potatoes 45 cts and a pound of butter costing 20 cents i returned home and young woolf delivered the goods that i bought to day after the potatoes come we went to work and put Some of each Kind and prepared also our Evening meal after Serving of it i then fed my horse and fowls then returned too my house and we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our Evening meal after getting through we then taken of the Suppertable and contents all in good Shape again we then moved in too our bed room for a short rest and in a Short while Mrs Gee and her Baby come to Stay with the old folks untill her children could go too the Show, and during the time the writer recorded the labors done by the familey to day and when through i then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night

Wednesday September the AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning at 66 Degrees tempature with a good prospect of falling weather as it is very dark and cloudey much in appearance of rain at an earley hour this morning now when the familey was prepared for work this morning the writer first and formost fed the horse and fowls then returned too the kitchen and prepared a fire in the cook Stove then assited my wife in preparing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through my (wife) went to work and prop ? the morning table and contents all in good Shape again the writer then walked down too merchant Bennet and Taulbees Store to See Mr Bennet a bout Sowing wheat and after getting through i returned home caught and geered of my horse i hitched him too my cart then led him across the Srteets to James Graham and loaded on a lot of tin cans and halled them over too the Middle Bosque and dumped them off in too the creek then went to work and fixed the west corner of my old pasture as the Stock had found a getting out place after getting of it fixed i went to work and choped up a load of wood and loaded it on too my cart then drove for my place in the Town of Crawford being about one oclock in the evening and after arriving at home i then taken the horse from the cart gave him water then taken the geer off of him and fed him and then returned too the house and eat my dinner as my wife had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat after we were through with our noon meal and my wife had taken care of the dinner table and contents we then taken a Short rest the writer then taken a Short rest and went to work again, i plowed in a lot of wheat for Bob Bennits wife on the Johney Renfrow place in Crawford now Johney Bonard but they Sold the place to Old Man Inglebace (Engelbrecht) and he rented the place to Bob Benet a merchant of Crawford, after getting the wheat plowed in i then drove home with my plow after arriving at home i then taken the geer off of my horse gave him water i then turned him loose in the lot untill feeding time i then taken a walk out through the town to See what was going on i found the town a live with the merchants and farmers the merchants bying cotton and the farmer Settling up this years account and bying more good and Supplyes for his familey and by the by evry thing was flush with the people i then returned home and fed my horse and my wifes fowls the prepared wood for the cook Stove and brought it in doors by that time my wife had the evening meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening after we were through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose and Sleep hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night it has been Some what cloudey all day long

Thursday September the 25th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cloudey rainey morning as it rained through the last past night and this morning at five oclock Sharp it began to rain very hard from the South and then changed too the North East and rained for about one and a half hours very rapedley and Slacked up then rained Slow a long for Some Length of time wind and rain this morning from the North East, principally, Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning but when in readiness for work the writer first fed his horse and after getting of him fed i then returned too my kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of the morning meal Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same, when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then moved in too our Sitting room and contented our Selve by taking a rest as it Still continued to rain but Slowley and during the time that i could not get out doors I recorded the labor that has been done this morning by my wife and the writer and Still the rainey weather continues to be in action and no Signe in the weather of it checking Soon now it half past ten oclock and Still raining Slowly beginning at five oclock this morning and for one hour and a half it rained very hard flooding the Streets and gardens and Still the good works goes on it ceased to rain any more after too-Oclock this Evening makeing about ? hours rain that fell to day making about 5/12 inch rain good for Texas and Texas grass, and Seed that has been Sown for winter vegetables also wheat that was Sown at or near one oclock to day we eat our noon meal and after getting through and the dinner table cared far we then taken a Short rest then the writer walked down too post office for my mail, after getting of it i returned home i went to work and finished writing the deed that my wife and i made to Ed Costley and heirs and assignes and when completing the work Mr Parkhill come to tell me that the officer had Some of my Stock in the pen down in Crawford Texas. Friday Sep tem the 26th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a dark gloomey cloudey morning wind blowing quite raw from the North and also seemed as though it would rain Evry minute from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 56 Degrees tempature going downward evry day. and the norther is growing more Severe as the day passes away. The familey a rose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for work the writer then renewed the fire in the fire place then fed his horse and my wifes fowls and when through with that job i then returned too our cooking department and renewed the fire in the cook Stove i then ground and put the coffee on to make by that time my wife was readey for buisiness and She pitched in and finished prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through and the breakfast cared far we then moved in to our Sitting room by a good fire as fire felt well this morning too the flesh as it was growing damp and cool with a tight mist of rain falling from the direction of the north east. now at or near one oclock to day we eat our noon meal although being late in the evening to what it generally are when we eat our noon meal but being Such fowl weather we postponed our noon meal not being much hungry, after we were through with our noon meal and my wife had taken care of her dinner table and contents, i then fed my horse then went too the postoffice for my mail and received the Crawford advance was the onley mail for us today i then returned then walked down to the drug Store for Some antiprogestine for my wife to put on Some Sores on her face after getting it i then went too the Stock pen to See whether any of my cattle were in or no, but after arriving at the pen i Soon found that i did not have in the pound So i then returned home with my medison and tablet after arriving at home i then went to work i then recorded what had ben done to day by my Self and wife, as my wife has been buisey the most of the day Sewing on Some article of goods whilst i have been equally as buisey in keeping up the work a round the house So both of the old people has been quite buisey alday as the weather has been So rough the writer could not afford to do much work out of doors as the norther was blowing quite brisk with a light mist a falling of rain fin in its mature like Snow So we have to content our Selves by remaining in doors and it were the case alday long. the cotton buisiness has ceased for to day too wet to hall for the mud and it Still keeping up a mist of rain keeps the ground much worse for Travail and no telling how long this Spell will last from the movement of the Elements at the present time being near fore oclock PM of to day i then went work to do up my nights chores whilst my wife prepared our evening meal after getting through i returned too the house we then eat our evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and after getting through we then moved in too our bed room for a short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to receive a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire of the old people at home

Saturday September the 27th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a wet cloudey morning as the Slow mist of rain kept up the last past night and Still falling this morning wind from the North but not So Strong as it was on yesterday but high enough as it is Thermometer at Seven oclock this morning registered at 60 Degrees tempature with a good prospect of it going lower Soon The old folks at home arose Some what earlier than common but as the nights are getting longer we have more time to Sleep there fore we can have more time to Sleep and get more rest at the Same time after arising from our bed of repose then getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire inour bedroom and then fed my horse, after getting through at the lot i returned too the kitchen and went to work and assisted my woman in prepareing of the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal, after getting of our breakfast then eating of the Same my wife went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape we could do nothing more than to remain in doors as it were Still misting rain and very muddy So the writer recorded the above after Eating of our morning meal then continued to rest and read the news papers and other periodicals and Spent the day very pleasantly in doing So in Doors for it is a very disagreable day on dumb broots and woman all a long the line boys at or near one oclock we eat our noon neal, prepared by my wife and after getting through my wife taken care of the dinner table and contents we then moved in too my or our Sitting room and taken a Short rest then the writer walked down in too Crawford to See about a pare of Specks as there was a man from Houston agent for a Sam Houston paper and had Some Specks to give a way too any one that would Subscribe for the paper for three years So i taken him up at his word and received the Spectacles and then returned home and done up my night chores after getting through i returned in doors and my wife and the writer eat our evening meal and after getting through and the Suppertable and contents cared for we moved in too our Sitting room and taken a rest long enough for the writer to record our days labors for to day which has been a very disagreeable day for being out doors on account of So much mud under foot Mr E. E. Mulican was a visetor to See the old folks on buisiness as he was our land tenant for 1913 to get Some wire Steples to fasten up Some loose wire on the fence to keep our cattle in side of the inclosure as they had been getting out here of late, now as we are through with our work for to day we will return too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old folks at home

Sunday September the 28th 1913 - Opened up quite a muddy wet morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 58 Degrees tempature with a prospect of a nother purty day. The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer fed and cared for his horse and my wifes fowls. after getting through with that part of the work i then returned too the house and renewed the fire in the fire place then went to work to assist my wife in prepareing of our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves to too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after we were through and the table and contents cared far we then prepared our Selves for our days work my wife then went to her domestic work about the house whilst the writer was attending to the out door work. that had to be done around the premises and as this were the Sabath day and the Lords day we will endeaver to obey his command keep it as a rest day. So we occupied the day in resting and reading verrous works of writing and it come time to eat our regular meals through this Sabbath day we did So So we eat then rested and read through out the day and enjoyed evry thing that we turned our attention too through out the day the latter part of the day was not So clear as it was in the fore noon of the present day as it become Some what cloudy and deathly Still not movent in the air hardley a leaf moving to be Seen in no direction will at or near too oclock in the after noon of to day we eat our noon meal prepared by my wife and when through with our Sabbath days meal my wife went to work then put her noon day dinner table in good Shape and contents also we then continued to rest again untill time come to do up our nights chores and when the time rolled round i then went to work and put evrything in good shap then we taken a rest for Some little bit we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to receive a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old folks at home in the Town of Crawford Texas

Monday September the 29th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a foggy morning Some what damp wind from the East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 58 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what this morning and after prepareing our Selves for work the writer first and formost fed my horse and my wifes fowls then returned in doors and renewed the fire in the cook Stove i then assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served then placed on the table readey to be eat we seated our selves too the breakfast table then eat of our morning when through and the table and contents cared far we then resorted to other work that had to be done on the premises this morning with out fail, and my wife She went too her domestic work about the place whilst the writer then made preparations to go over too Ed Costley pasture to See about the Stock and fence as they have been getting out here lately and bothering other people in the county Now on the morning September the 29th 1913 the morning opened up with the most dense fog that i have Seen for maney a year almost like a rain kept evry thing drenching wet up too about ten oclock a m of today then blew off and the elements become blue and clear and turned out to be a nice day at last. now the writer has been down in town looking after buisiness and have just returned home and prepared a fire in the cook stove for my wife to prepare our noon meal then fed my horse then returned too my writing table to record what has been done on the premises up to 12-oclock today one other work was done was my wife and the writer put a roller on her beaurow as Screws had come out and the roller came off after getting through, we then eat our noon meal after finishing our noon meal my wife went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer caught and curried then put the geer on my horse then hitched him too my cart and drove over to E D Costleys pasture to fix Some fence and hall a load of wood this evening after getting of the fence fixed i then finished loading on wood on my cart then i drove for my place in the town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i taken the horse from my cart then taken the geer off of him and gave him water as it was not quite time to feed i went to chopping up stove wood for the cook Stove and when through i then fed the horse and then returned in doors and we eat a cold Snack for our evening meal when through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W.E. Tuesday September the 30th AD 1913 - Opened up quite day wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 68 Degrees tempature The familes as usual arose Some what late this morning but when prepared for work the writer as usual fed and cared for his poney and the fowls then returned too my wifes cooking department and renewed the fire in the cook stove then went to work and assised her in prepareing of our morning meal, after getting of it Served and placed on the table just too old folks Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal when through my wife then went to work at her domestic affares at large whilst the writer prepared him Self to go to Middle Bosque to fix Some more pasture fence joining Louis Andersons pasture on the west end of my pasture on middle Bosque creek, being just on the brink of the bluff now the opening up to day is very dark and with a heavey fog and a mist of rain following of it very unlikey weather for buisiness So far up in the day there is not much telling up to Eight oclock this morning what kind of a day it is going to turn out to be so far up in the day being at or near Eight oclock this morning it has great appearance of raine as it keeps up the slow mist all the same and Still they bring in a few loads of cotton to gin under cover to keep it dry at or near nine oclock this morning the fog be gan to blow off a bout nine oclock remained very cloudey and very Sweting(sweltering) but the writer caught and geered my horse hitched him too my cart then drove over to Middle Bosque for to fix more fence and to hall a load of wood and i am Satisfied that yestarday and today was the most oppressive weather that has been this year for i could Scarsley Stand to do any thing like work what ever i were trying to put Some Stayes in between the post in the pasture fence and worked up to three oclock PM with out food water or rest and i have never been So warm this year and out done with heat as i have been for the last too days past. and yet not through as yet. at or near three oclock i arrived at home with my load of wood and then it was i got me a drink of water it being So very wa (didn't finish the word) and i so hot and no water to cool my thirst it come in one of making the writer Sick all a long the line well after driving at home i taken my horse from the cart then the geer off of him gave him water then fed him, then come too the house and eat my dinner as my wife had been waiting dinner for the last three hours after getting through my wife then taken care of her dinner table and contents of the Same, we then taken a Short rest after resting for a bit i then walked down too the post office for my mail after receiving of my mail i then returned past the office with Some news from our children a card from Mrs J.M. Costley of Energy Hamilton county Texas, and also one letter from Mrs Virginia Frownfelter also a letter from Miss Louese Leng of Joshua Johnson County Texas. and after reading of the new from our children i then went to work and done up my night chores and when through i went to work and recorded the labors done by my wife and the writer to day and at or near half past five oclock it began to rain and up to going to bed at nine oclock at night it< was still misting now as we were through with our days work we will return too our bed of repose hoping to get a good quiet rest to night is the desire of the familey W E Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Wednesday October the first AD 1914 - Opened up a very damp wet morning and also very cloudey with a mist of rain ever once and a while and kept it up all through the night with a very good propect of a continuatim of the mist and Some indication of a norther and the clouds looks favorable for Such Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 70 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work the writer did the feeding of the Stock when through i returned too the kitchen then renewed the fire in the Stove and went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table cared far and contents of the Same we could do nothing more than remain in doors for it were to wet and muckey to be out doors working i can not Stand to work in the field when So wet and Sloppy therefore will have to content my Self by staying in doors at last untill the weather gets more favorable than i can go alright Side up with care. The writer after slacking up for a bit i walked up too the post office for my mail but did not have any this morning but the post mistress let me have one of hers to read (newspaper) i then walked down to Nichols Store and purchased a half Sack of meal and a bottle of ink costing the whole amount of 45 cts i then returned home and tried the ink it proved to be very good. I then went to work and answered a letter that i received on yestarday the last day of September 1913 - also the Same day received a letter from Louese Leng my grandaughter and a card from my daughternlaw Mrs. J.M. Costley and Still the Showery weather continues to go on all the Same as though nothing would have hapened. now i am through writing my letter too my children and will go to work to do up my night chores as it is getting late in the evening and at or near Six oclock near night fall it come a very hard rain from the East and rained about one half hour flooding the ditches garden and yard a big rain i would call it a thing we have not been use too in the maney years past Now as we are through with our days work we will eat a cold Snack then take a Short rest then depart too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the old people

Thursday October the 2th AD 1913 - Opened up a very damp wet morning as it principally rained all the last past night wind from the east Still raining Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 71 Degerees tempature The familey arose Some (what late) this morning on account of the inclement weather and my wife not being very well but after getting prepared for work the writer then proceeded too the lot and fed my horse and my wifes fowles then returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the Stove and went to work and prepared the morning meal all a lone as my wife was Still not feeling well enough to a rise from her bed of repose but as i was late in prepareing of our morning meal by the time that i had it Served and placed on the table She had arosed from her bed of rest and had dressed her person and readey for her morning cup of coffee. So we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal when through the writer then went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a rest, as the weather would not admit of doing any thing Else as it was Still raining and has been for the last 48 hours Steadiley all the way through and still continues to rain and it is now clost on too 4 - oclock in the after of to day being the 2th day of october AD 1913 - and Still the good work goes on as though nothing had hapened what ever but we have to waid mud and water for all we get. we eat our noon at or near fore oclock this evening Served by my wife as she is much better this after noon of to day and through with our meal the writer put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain which we eat our dinner and Supper to geather then the writer done up his night chores So when through we taken our usual rest before going to bed which was at or near nine oclock at night but at or near fore oclock this evening it helt up raining and Seemed to be Some prospect of braking off as it Showed Some light in the west and that is Some indication of Some fare weather a head making 40 (?) hours of continued rain fall wetting the ground about foreteen inches in debth a good Season in the ground for the first time in Several years past as the Siepe Springs had Started to run evry where in the low lands of Precince no 7 (?) of Mclennan county Texas now it is at or near nine oclock at night and it Seems from the movements of the Elements that the rain has ceased for a while but very cloudey and it Seenes to me that i am the onley one up in town i have been belated on acount of writing Will Kelley and wife to night in answer to one that i received from Edna Kelley to day and as i am throug i will now return too my bed off repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nigh is the desire of my wife and the writer W E Costley at home in the Town of Crawford State of Texas

Friday October the 3dh AD 1913 - Opened up quite dreary mornig wind from the South East with Still a mist of rain falling quite dark and gloomey this makes fore days this Spell has been going on and yet it Seems not to give way the least bit way abit in the least Thermometer at or near 8 - oclock this morning registered at 70 Degrees tempature with Some little indication of it clearing off the clouds look in appearance of braking away. The familey a rose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for buisiness the writer Started the fire in the cook Stove and then ground and put on the Stove coffee and water to make coffee by that time my wife was prepared for buisiness and She Steped in too the kitchen and taken my place then finished prepareing our morning meal whilst the writer waded the mud too my stable and then fed my horse and my wifes fowls, when through i returned too the house we then eat our morning meal that my wife had just prepared for the old people and when through with our morning meal my wife went to work then put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer wrenched out Some clothing that my wife had washed our a few days a go but continued So wet that She could do nothing with them after getting through i put them out on a line and when through i went to work and recorded the above of what has been done this morning up to ten oclock A.M. of to day then we could do nothing more than to remain in doors on account of being So wet and muddy and Still misting rain ever once and a while and yet the good works goes on as though nothing had happened all a long the line boys and girls both as one. now at or near one oclock Pm of to day we eat our noon meal that my wife had prepared for we too old people being all alone whilst the writer was engaged in writing of a land note, She was buisey at the time i was engaged in writing She was prepareing the noon meal and when i was through then was the time we eat our noon meal and when through my wife went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain whilst i were reading of the Crawford and Waco news, and when my wife got through with her dinner table and dining room She then wrote a letter too her granddaughter at Joshua Johnson County Mrs. Edna Kelley when through as i had rote too the same party we piled our letters in too one envelope Sealed it up i then taken and maled it at the post office in order that it would go off this evening which it did after mailing of the letter i Stired a round in Town a mong the boys for a bit then returned home and went to work at feeding of my horse and my wifes fowls and then prepared wood for the cook stove then brought it in doors to be handy for use when neaded. we then eat our evening meal cold as it were too wet and damp to cook after getting through, and the table and contents cared for we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nights rest to night rest to night rest to night is the desire of the old people to night now at this writing this evening it has Some appearance of clearing up again at any rate for a few days to come as evry thing Seems in a condition to rot from the dampness of the weather that has fell here of late as there has been So much of it but come a hard Shower at nine o clock to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Saturday October the 4th AD 1913 - Opened up a very wet morning with considerable rain through the night wind from the South and Still raining Thermemeter Registered at Seven oclock to day 72 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer then fed his horse and my wifes fowls and when through i returned too the house by picking my way back too our kitchen for the deep mud in the lot as it were almost in passible the mud was So deep but after arriving at our kitchen i then renewed the fire in the cook Stove then ground and put the coffee on to make and assisted my wife in various wayes in prepareing of our morning meal, and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer went to work to finish a letter that i had commenced to write to John B. Costley of Waco Texas, which taken me untill at or near 12 - oclock noon to day and after getting of it wrote i then taken it too the postoffice and mailed it and then Steped in at J.B.Nichols and companeys Store and purchased Some bacon and onions pepper and irish potatoes for home use, i then returned home then my wife and the writer went to work and prepared our noon meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal when through and the table and contents cared far my wife taken a Seat by the cook Stove and red the Waco and Kansas paper whilst the writer was Settleing up with old man Bonard for the pasture of his cow and after i were through i then walked down in Town to See what was going on in the way of trade i found the town quite lively in trade for the mount of people in town there not more than 75 persons in crawford besides the inhabtance of the town but for all that them few made trade quite livly all through the day it were very muddy all a long the line after remaining in town for Some time i then returned home and done Some work about the house before going to do my night chores about the place after getting night work i then renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room to drive out the dampness in the house from So much rain that has been falling for the last 4 days past and when i got through we then eat a few bites of cold vituals then taken our usual rest before going to bed Now at a bout three oclock PM there was a very heavey cloud formed in the South with considerable thunder accompaning the cloud and moves Eastward and then cleared off quite well like it might stay clear for Some bit but the Sun Sit clear and bright now as i am about through with all of our work to day and we will take a rest and go to our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night

Sunday October the 5th AD 1913 - Opened up quite cloudey morning wind from South west. Thermometer at or near Seven oclock A m Registered at 70 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the writer then fed and cared for his horse and my wifes fowls and when that work was finished the writer returned too our kitchen then renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the breakfast table and then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal all a lone just the too old people a living too them Selves after getting through my wife went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again also the dining room and bedroom. we then could do nothing more than take a rest as it were the Sabbath day of the lord 1913 and a day of rest Now this the 5th day Since this last Spell began and fore day and nights often and on it raine Soaking the ground a bout 18 inches deep, and the Elements to day is on a quandary about braking off as it Still remains cloudey and threatning but at or near ten oclock to day being the Sabbath day 1913 it began to clear up and did become clear and the Sun become quite penetrating on the East from which it began to dry off and made it much more pleasanter to travail a round through the town and any place that one would choose to go at any rate and by the by it is making things look lovely again to behold after So long a confinement in doors as the Sun has been Shining bright and clear the greater part of the day at or one oclock PM we eat our noon meal prepared by my wife and after getting through my wife went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape again after we were entirley through with our noon meal we then taken a short rest then departed too our reading of the news of Several States and the holey Bible in connection with the news up till late in the evening then the writer layed my reading matters too one Side and walked down too the post office for my mail but being unfortunate i did not get any i then walked down the street and come a cross Old Daddy Schoffner and of corse i had to take a talk with him for some bit and afterwards returned home and done up my feeding and prepareing of stove wood and brought it in doors to be handy for the cooks in the morning and when through we eat a cold Lunch for our evening meal and when through my wife went to work then put her evening table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer tried to take a smoke but the pipe would not smoke or the tobaco would not alight too damp to burn so i went to work then recorded our days labors that was done by the old people to day now as we are through we will take a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Monday October the 6th 1913 Opened up another damp cloudey morning Still unsettled not knowing how it will do wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 72 Degrees tempature. The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning but when prepared for work the writer first did the feeding of the horse and the fowls of my wife i then returned in doors and Started the fire in the cook Stove i then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through my wife went to work then put her breakfast table and contents kitchen and dining room all in good Shape again whilst the writer recorded the begining of our days work after getting through i then taken a walk down in town to look up Bill Gee to have a settlement about pasturing of his stock. Found him in the post office and presented him the account I had against him and he paid it off with out a word. i then returned home then made preperation to write a order to Colorad(o) for Some medison and did write and Send it off we then eat our noon meal as my wife had it Served the placed on the table and anounced readey to be eat after getting through and the table and contents was were cared far then taken a Short rest then departed too the middle Bosque to E D Costleys pasture to look after and Salted them and when through i let my horse eat grass for a bit as he appeared to wanted grass So after graising for abit i then mounted on him then rode home after arriving at home i dismounted from my horse taken the Saddle off of him then Staked him out i then walked down in town for a Short ladder to aid my in getting Some Shingles up on my Stable to nail on Some open plases to keep it from leeking when it rains but i did not suckceed in getting of it i then returned home put my horse up in the Stable and bed him i then returned too the house and prepared my Self for my evening meal So as my wife had our evening meal Spred on the table then Seating our Self to the table we portaken of our evening meal after all were through, my wife then went to work and put the supper table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a move in too our bed room for a Short rest untill the writer could record what has been done by the writer and his wife to day and as we are growing quite old we do not feel as well after woring (working) all day as we did when a great deal younger but never the less we have it to do now the trip i taken over too the bosque was delightful one as Since the rain evry thing that grows in the beat of No 7 looks prospous as can look grass was growing and evry nook and corner was a runing spring and the middle Bosque was a running delightful and had cleared its channel out beautifully and looked in appearance as it did forty years ago. now as we are through we will now depart too our bed of repose hoping to receive a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Tuesday October the 7th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cloudey wind from the S.W. Thermometer at or near seven oclock this morning Registered at 70 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the writer the first thing for him to do is to feed his horse and his wifes fowls and then return too the house and Start the fire in the Stove then assist my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when we get it Served then placed on the table we Seat our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal and it is a custom for my wife to go to work and put every thing in good Shape again and for the old man to get out and going to doing something else So i made properation to work on my Stable to day, and after fixing me a ladder to go up on top of the Stable i then Staked my hourse out on the grass then procured me Some Shingle nales from the hard wire Store then went work to patch the holes in the roof of my stable to tacking Some Shingles over the Cracks to keep the roof form leaking and worked up to 12 - oclock noon to day then left of work and brought my horse up and him in the lot gave him water and fed him Some oats, i then returned too the house and prepared my Self for to eat my noon meal, as my wife had Served the Same and placed it on the table and we then eat a portion of the Same after we were through with our noon meal my wife went to work and evry thing cared far about the dining table and the contents of the Same We then taken a good rest then went to work again my wife too her domestic affares and the writer to working on his Stable roof trying to turn the water out from leeking in the inside on the horse and finished the roof at or near Sunset this evening then went to work and done up my night Shores we then Eat our evening meal as my wife had it Served then placed on the table readey to be eat when through and evening table and contents cared for we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose as this has been as warm a evening as i have felt in Some time to come as the wind was very low and very coudey a very heavey cloud North the princip(al) part of the evening and the element full of fervent heat it was quite sickning it was So warm but the clouds passed a round Eastward and westward but lightning heavey in the South as though it might rain again So this is the last of our work to day, and we will retire with the hope of a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night

Wednesday October the 8th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock reg Thermometer Registered at 68 Degrees tempature this morning with a heavey fog on this morning with a prospect of a change of weather Soon The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer then fed the horse and my wifes fowls then to the Kitchen and renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in Servain the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through my wife then went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer went to work to prepare for going to E D Costleys pasture on the bluff of middle bosque to fix Some pasture fence So it was i had to greese my cart the first thing after getting ot it greesed i then caught and geered my horse gave him water hitched him too my cart then mounted my Self on the cart i then drove for the bosquey to fix the fence and after arriving at the place i dismounted from my cart then tied my horse too the tree i then went to work to diging posthole and after getting of them dud (dug, did?) i tak my ax then went to choping ceday (cedar) post and after getting of the cut i put them in the ground and after tampering the post and when through i then Steepeled the wire too the post and finished just as the pasenger train run through my old farm i then went to work to get me a load of wood but it got So hot i had to leave of work and to too the Bosquey which was a bout a half of a mile after getting water i then drove back to the wood that i was wanting to get then got out of the cart and tied my horse and went to work and Still no cooler and by this time it was a bout one oclock in the afternoon of today but however i cut and loaded on my wood on the cart after getting the load on the cart, i then drove for my place in the Town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i taken my horse from the cart taken the geer off of him then him in too my yard and watered him then turned him and turned him loos in my yard to cool and graz on the grass as he was too hot to feed as this has been and exter ordinary warm day i then eat my dinner as my wife had it Served and placed on the table readey to be Eat and after were though my wife went to work and put her noons table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a Short rest as the writer become too hot over in the woods and have not felt very well since after resting i walked down to C. P (?) Clary Saddle shop to get him to put a couple of alls in the handle for me after getting it done i returned home by the way of the postoffice to get my mail after arriving at home i taken a rest for a few minutes then went to work to cleaning out my horses Stable after getting through i then fed my horse and my wifes fowls then returned to the house we then eat a cold Snack for our evening meal and after getting through my wife taken care of Mr Supper table and contents of the Same whilst the writer recorded what has been done by the old people to day and when through we departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of getting a good nights rest to night is the desire of each one of the old people

Thursday October the 9th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 68 Degrees tempature . The familey arose Some what Earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer proceeded too the horse lot and done the feeding and when through i then returned too the house and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when getting of the morning meal Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through my wife went to work then put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain whilst then writer caught curried and watered and geered his horse hitched him too my cart then mounted my Self in too my cart then drove for Midle Bosque for a load of wood an to See after the Stock after arriving at the place the writer dismounted from his cart tied the horse too a tree then went to work and choped a load of wood then loaded it on my cart then drove too my place in the town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i then taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him gave him water put in the Stable then fed him i then returned too the house and my wife Eat our noon meal as she had it Served and on the table readey to be eat after getting through and the table and contents cared for we then taken a short rest then went to work and my wife went to her domestic affares about the house and the writer geered his horse hitch him too my cart then drove over too my old place for a load of corn with out knowing weather i could get a wagon in the field or not but will soon find out when i get there well i did not get to the field with my cart at all as i come in contact with a big mud, hole at or near Bob Allens place better known as the Dr Denton place joining the W.E.Costley old place there it was i got in too a big mud hole, and my horse went through and left the cart and the writer setting in the middle of the mud hole, by braking out the end or loop of the lether tracers so i had to get out of the cart and wade out of the mud and wark (walk) on to Mr E.E.Mulican for help and when i arrived at Mr Mulicans he was gone up to Mr William Blacks about three quarters of a mile for a load of corn so i had to wait untill Mr Mulican returned home with his load of corn and after getting of it unloaded him and william Black went and assisted the writer in getting of his cart out of the bog after getting of it out and the horse hitched to it i then thanked the gentleman for there kindness and drove back to Crawford as i did not have time to gather a load of corn as it was getting so late in the evening after arriving at home i taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him then Staked him out on the grass i then taken my lether tracers down to Sam Clarys Saddle Shop and got him to fix them for me. after getting of them fixed i returned home and greesed my harness as they were neading of it badley but did not get quite through as night come on me and i had to leave off from greesing of my horness to do up my night word (work) such as feeding and doing up other work around the place So when i were through we eat our evening meal, that my wife had prepared for her Self and the writer after we were through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a short rest and during of the time the writer recorded what had been done by my wife and the writer during today and each one of us are some what tiard to night now as we are through with our labors we will now go to our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of each one of us to night

Friday October the 10th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cloudey much in apearance of a norther wind from the south Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registeres at 74 Degrees tempature The familey arose tolerable earley this morning and after getting prepared for labor the writer went to work and fed his horse and my wifes fowls after getting through and the fire Started in the Stove i then assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we then eat our morning meal after we were through and the table cared far we both then went to work my wife then taken care of her breakfast table and content whilst the old Lady Costley went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again then went to work at her house work as usual and the writer then caught and curried my horse then put the geer on him hitched him to my cart then drove over too my old place for a load corn after arriving at my old place i dismounted from my cart tied my horse too the lot once then walked in too the field and pulled down a cart load of corne then drove my teem in too the field then loaded on the corn after geting of it loaded i then drove out to the house and tied my horse too a cultivator and remained with familey and taken dinner with Mr Mulican and familey and when through we taken a Short rest then Mr E E Mulian walked in too his pasture and drove up his mule teem and geered them and hitched them too his wagen then we drove to Crawford as Mr Mulican was coming to Crawford Texas with his cotton to be gined and the writer was coming home with his corn after **arriving at home i taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him gave him water then put him in his stable and fed him i then returned too the house and taken a rest as i were quite warm from gethering corn after resting for a bit i then went to work again taken up a lot of corne Shucks that was in the way of putting more corne in my cribb after getting of them up i then unloaded my corn in too my cribb and when unloaded i then walked down to John b. Nichols and companey and purchased a gallon of lard and a gallon of carosene oil and after purchased the above to articles i then steped out of the store on too the walk and seated my self down on a bench near by then taken a long talk with Capton Jack Smith and we talked over the past, for some one hour I then returned home and done my feeding of my horse and fowls then prepared wood for the cook Stove and brought it in doors we then eat our evening meal after we were through i we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest and during of the time the writer recorded the work done by the familey to day and after getting through we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night

Saturday October the 11th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a morning much in appearance of a pretty day wind from the North East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock A.M. Registered at 58 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer first fed his horse and my wifes fowls i then returned too the kitchen and Started the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Eat a portion of the Same and when through with our morning meal my went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer caught and curried then put the geer on my horse hitched him too my cart then drove over too my old place after a load of corn after arriving at my place i tied my horse then went to work pulling down corn and when getting the load gathered i the got my wagon and teem then went to loading only corn that i had pulled after getting of my cart i loaded i then drove to my place of a bode after arriving from the corn field i taken my horse gave him water then put him in his Stable and fed him i then returned too the house and eat my dinner as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the dinner table having our granddaughter Anne Stirling to dine with the old people to day Tom Sterling Annies Husband was with us also but he had the Phthie so severe that he could not eat any dinner and after we were through my wife and Aney Stirling put the noon day table and contents all in good Shape a gain we then taken a rest for a short while untill Tom Stirling got better in his distress with and attack of asthma at or near 12 - oclock noon to day but after inhaling some smoke of some medison from being set on fire he become better of this distressing dis ease that he has had for years past, and is subject too when he comes in contact with dust, that is Rhthisic.Now after So long a time resting i went to work and unloaded my cart that was loaded with corn after getting the corn unloaded Tom Sterling as he had got over his spell and the writer gathered a lot of green tomatoes for annie Tom Stirling wife to make some chow chow for each one of us during the time Annie Stirling and had gone down into Crawford to do some trading and so soon as she returned back to my house they started too there place of a bode on the north side of middle Bosque in precinct No 7 of McLennan County Texas. The writer then went to work and fed my horse we then Eat our evening meal that my had Served for her and I after we were through my wife and the writer went to work and put the Suppertable and contents all in good Shape agin, we then moved in too our bed room and Started a fire as it was quite cool for there has been a Stiff North East wind blowing alday from which it became quite cool from the briskness of the wind we then taken a sht rest from our toil to day as we have been quite buisey alday and up to nine oclock to night now we will go too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night rest to night is the desire of the writer

Sunday October the 12th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a bright morning a nice clear wind in the south quite cool the last past night. as the wind was from the north on yesterday and the last past night Thermometer Registered a half past Six oclock this morning at 48 Degrees tempature my wife and the writer arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work then writer went too the lot and did the feeding and when through i returned too the kitchen and kindled the fire in the cook Stove then went to work too assisting my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again we then as we have been doing taken the Sabbath day for a rest day as it was Set a part by the ruler of the universe and it is very right that it Should be done for it is very much neaded by those that labors hard for the support of ther wife and children and them Selves So we continued to rest our old wearried bones untill time to eat a gain So we prepared our meal then eat a portion of the Same when through and the dinner table cared far also the contents of the Same. Then we continued our Sabbath days rest being a bright Sunshiney day not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements up too this recording being one oclock P.M. of to day being the lords day. and Still continud the Same all through the and the Sun Sit clear and bright as the noon days Sun and at the proper time i done up my night Schores and we eat a few bites not being very much hungry and after getting through and the Supper table cared far we then taken a short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night

Monday October the 13 th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 48 Degrees tempature. the familey a rose Some what clear & bright this morning and after getting in Shape for work i then proceeded too the lot and fed my horse and my wifes fowls and when through with that part of the work i then returned too the house then renewed the fire in the Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and conts cared far then my wife proceeded to her domestic work about the house whilst the writer prepared him Self for halling corn from my old place on the North Side of Middle Bosque creek in Pr No 7 (Justice Precinct number 7) of Mclennan County texas So after Eating of my morning meal i caught and geered my horse hitched him too my cart then hit the road for my old place for a load of corn after arriving at the field i dismounted from my cart then wen to pulling corn and pulled my cart bed full and drove for Crawford Texas with Some after arriving at home i taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him then gave him water i then put him in his Stable and fed him i then returned too the house then prepared for my noon meal as my wife had it Served and placed and announced the Same readey to be eat so we Seated our Selves too our noon day table then eat our dinner after getting through my wife went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good shape again and as the writer Still had one load of corn to gather i hitched my horse too my cart then drove back too my old place and finished gathering of it so that made a wind up of the writer gathering corn for 1913 i then drove home and after arriving at the place i then taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him then put him in the Stable and fed him i then went to work and put the corn that i had gathered in too my crib and after getting through i then cut up a lot of wood to burn in my fire place as it was quite cool for the south wind to be blowing So mildley after getting of it cut up i then brought it in doors to burn to night , I then eat my evening meal that my wife had prepared for we too old people, after we had Satisfied our thirst for food my wife the went to work and put her Suppertable and contents all in good Shape a gain we then moved in too our bed room for a short rest as each one of us was quite tiard as we had both been hard at work alday long so soon as the writer finished recording the done by the old people to day we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night in the town of Crawford Texas W.E.Costley at home in the city of Crawford State of Texas

Tuesday October the 14th AD 19-13 - Opened up quite Nice bright morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registers at 54 Degrees tempature with a prospect of a purty day a head The familey arose Some what late this morning and after preparing our selves for buisiness we went to work in earnest the writer then renewed the fire in the fire place then fed the horse and fowls, i then retruned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then my wife and the writer went to work and Soon prepared our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then protaken of our morning meal and after getting through my wife then went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer caugh curried and geered my horse then gave him water then hitched him too my cart then drove over too Middle bosque brakes for a load of wood to burn in our fireplace when cool after arriving at the place i dismounted from my cart then it was the writer went to work and Soon had a load of wood after getting of it cut i loaded it on the cart the drove home after arrivin at home i taken my horse from the cart then gave him water then taken the geer off of him then put him in the Stable and fed him I then returned too the house and propared my Self for my noon meal and then we Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our noon meal that my wife had prepared for the old people at home, after we were through my wife went to work then put her dinner table and contents in good Shape a gain we then taken a Short rest after resting for a bit i then walked down in Town to See Mr Taulbee about sowing his rented garden in wheat and when i mentioned it to him he Said for to hold on for a day or So as he was about to trade for a place of his own and if he did he would not Soe the garden where he was living. i then returned home then geered and hitched my horse too my turning plow then drove a cross to Lee Hickerson and layed off and coverered them with a turning plow and the old Lady Hickerson done the droping of the onions after getting through i then drove home taken the geer off of him the Staked the horse out. on the Street i then went to work and propared wood for the fire place also for the cook Stove and brought it in doors i then fed my horse and my wife chicken i then returned too the house and we eat our eveveing (evening) meal and a bout the time we went to eat Captin Jack hill come to Stay alnight with the old folk at home, after we had portaken of our Evening meal we then moved in too our bed room then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nigh is the desire of the opeple (old people) to night

Wednesday October 15th 1913 - Opened up quite a nice clear morning wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 58 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for business the writer first and formost went to work and fed the horse and fowls then return too the cook room and prepared a fire in the cook stove and went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat We Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through with our morning meal my wife went to work then put her morning table and contents all in good Shape a gain also her Kitchen and dining room as well her bed room and as to the writer i am on a quandary what to do i have So maney things to do i do not know which to do first i am undesided in the matter and when one is in that condition in mind he is quite certain to do nothing what ever onley idle a way his time but the writer walked down too the post office for my mail and received my Waco paper but no letters from any of my kindred at or near half past 12- Oclock to day my wife had our noon meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and we then portaken of a portion of the same after we were through with our noon meal my wife went to work and put her noon table and content all in good Shape again whilst the writer caught and watered my horse i then put my geer on him and then hitched him too my cart then drove for the breaks of the Bosque for a load of wood and to fix more fence after getting the fence fixed and wood choped an loaded on the cart i then drove home with my wood after arriving at home i then taken the geer off of my horse and Staked him out on the grass on the Streets of Crawford then went cutting of Stove wood for the cook Stove and brought it in doors after getting through we then Eat our evening meal that my wife had prepared for the old people at home after we were through my wife went to work and put her evening table and contents all in good Shape again we then moved in too our bed rom (room) for a good rest and during of the time the writer recorded the labor that was performed by wife and the writer to day for we are both wearried to high from our days work this has been Some what a cloudey evening it has the apearance of a change in the weather for instance my wife paid Mrs Wm Gee as viset which She is not in the habet of doing for Several years past on account of ill health, now as we are through with our work we will now go to our bed of repos hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people this evening

Thursday October the 16th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a dreary morning wind from the South Thermometer at Seven Oclock this morning Registered at 68 Degrees tempature. The familey a rose Some what earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer proceeded too the horse lot there fed his horse and the fowls after getting through i returned too the house and renewed the fire in the cook Stove and as usual went to work and assisted my wife in preparing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then we eat a portion of the Same, and when we were through my wife as usual went to her domestic affares about the house that has to be attended too and as the writer he went to work to prepare for work from Some Kind of work for too day as i have not as yet desided what i will do for a job to day. and did not find it did not put me back aney as it is misting of rain this morning and in appearance it Seemed as though it is going to be a Severe Spell of weather So i am not caring to be out in it what ever I taken around up to Mr W.D.Suttons this morning and a round by the public School house and down the McCollum Street and i found evry thing looking lovely evry thing growing in the gardens equal to Spring of the year and i came down by Mr Prices and his wife and baby gave me a Boca (bouquet) to bring too my wife they live on the widow McCollum place near by the people are from Gatesvill in Coryell County Texas. After arriving at home i recorded the above labors as my wife was buisey baking light bread and Still the appearance of fowl weather is brewing and in creasing write a long and at or near nine oclock this morning it began to rain slowley and soon began to increase in Strenght untill it become a heavery (very heavy) rain and rained Some one hour and a half then check up at Crawford and passed on ward northward we then eat our noon meal being Some what earlier than we are in the habit of eating but as we could do nothing like work it did not Set us back a bout eating after getting through my wife attended too her dinner table and contents and put her dining all in good Shape again we then went to work and each one of us wrote a letter too Lum Costley of Waco Texas or rather answered one that we received from him this morning and after getting them rote i then mailed the Same to him at waco Texas and then returned home a bout that time being at or near too oclock in the after noon there were a heavey cloud a rose in the west and north and in a Short while come a nother hard rain from that direction lasting about one hour then past over to South and east and at half past three Oclock P.M. there was a very dark cloud formed in the East and South and remained there for a long while before moving a way but Still the wind changed from or rather too the north and blew quite Strong and kepted up for Some bit the writer as he could do nothing else prepared night wood for the fire place in our bedroom also for the cooking Stove then brought it in doors to dry out then fed my horse and my wifes fowls after getting through i returned too the house we then eat our evening meal that my wife had prepared for our evening meal after getting through and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room not very tiard as the writer has not doing but little to day not enough to tire the writer to day but during the day i tacked Some narrow Stripp of leather on the heels of my evry day Shoes to keep them strait in walking as they one sided in the heel by putting a piece on one Side of the heel it Straten them up and makes them feel righ on my foot at or near fore oclock PM of today Mr E.E. Mulican come to See us and to bring me a dewbill for the money put in the bank for the tole of a bale of cotten that he had in the cotton yard and after he left i then eat my evening meal all a lone as my wife was not feeling very well, and did not eat any supper , after i were through i Stacked the dishes up and left them on the table, i then returned too my bed room by a good fire as it was damp and cool the writer then recorded the above, then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer to night.

Friday October the 17th AD 1913 - Opened up a damp wet morning wind from the North East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 52 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work i then fed my horse and my wifes fowls then returnedtoo the hourse then Started a fire in the cook Stove i then went to work and assisted my wife in preparing our morning meal and after getting of our meal Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selbes too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after we were through and the breakfast table cared far we then moved in too our bed room by a good fire as it were damp and cool and very clooudey and the north wind blowing this morning tolerably brisk and gradually grows colder as the day passes a way The writer after eating of his morning meal taken a walk down in to Crawford to See what was going on in the Tow(n) and after arriving in the buisiness part of the Town i found that dull times was a board as it was very wet from the rain that fell on yestarday and but few persons in town i then returned by the postoffice for my mail then returned home to read the crawford news of to day. and behold it was full of the best of news of evry discription and that was a bout all i did in the fore part of today but after my wife prepared our noon meal and weat ( we eat) the same i then taken a trip down too the gins to get a block to go under my galery post as it had gave way. after obtaining of the block of timber i returned back too my place then went to work to fix the same and with the help of my wife i Soon had it alright i then went to work to chopping up fire place wood for the fire place in our bed room also Stove wood for the cook Stove and bought it in doors to be handy too the Stove and fire place as it was turning quite cool as the North wind had been blowing quite cool alday and the latter part of the day it become much cooler as we had to keep up a fire alday long and at night we had to increas it all a long the line boys for it Shurley was cool and damp as we have just had too heavey Showers of rain on yestarday being Thursday October the 15th 1913 and Still the ground was wet all the Same from the effects of the rain on that day and month after getting through with my night work we eat our evening meal that my wife had prepared for the too old people all a lone and after getting through my wife went to work and put the Supper table and contents all in good Shape a gain we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest and during of the time the writer recorded the above then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire of my wife and the writer

Saturday October the 18th AD 1913 - Opened up quite adamp cool morning wind from the North cold Thermometer at or near Seven O clock this morning Registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey arose late this morning as usual and when prepared for work the writer first fed the Stock then returned too my wifes kitchen then renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in Serving our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selve too the table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through and the table and contents put in good Shape we then went too work at what was to do first and So far there is nothing that the old folks can do but Sit by the fire as the weather is So damp and cold and disageeable as the north wind is coming from the near way and resemles Sleet Snow or rain and that Soon but one can hear the carpentrs Soung (sound) over town as they can work in doors when too Severe to work out doors there is a lot of Carpenters building a Seed house near me as marks had to have one built before he could gin any more as the one he had gave way and fell down So that compelled him to build a new one, before going any father (further) with his work ginning the fleece Staple The men that taken the Contrack to build the Seed house was Bob Walker William Cash and Tom his Brother and they are making good headway if the weather is Severe at or near one oclock we eat our noon meal prepared by my wife to day and after we were through and then the dinner table and contents all in good Shape we then taken a good rest for a Short whild then the writer walked down in to town to See Mr. William Gee a bout Some plank to fix my Stable with and to do Some trading i baugh from Nichols and company Some Sweet potatoes also butter and tobaco and a lot of 8 peney nails then returned home withe the articles that i had just baught and delivered them too my wife and She taken care of them whilst the writer walked over too Mr William Gees just across the Street from the writer for the lumber that i had obtained from Mr Gee to fix my Stable and went to work at fixing of it and worked till quite late in the evening but did not quite finish it. So i left of work and fed my horse then prepared wood for my fire place in our bedroom and brought it in doors to be handy as it greatly had the appearance of rain a long late in the evening after getting through we then eat our evening meal that my wife had prepared for the too old people after placing on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of a portion of the same and when through and the content cared far we then moved in too our bed room by a good fire to take a rest and during of the time i recorded the labors that has been done to day by my wife and the writer and after getting throug we taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get aquiet nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Sunday October the 19th - 1913 - Opened up quite a cool hasey morning wind from the North blowing Strong and brisk. Thermometer at or near Eight oclock this morning Registers at 48 Degrees tempature with a prospect of a continuation of the present cold Spell as it has been going on for several day beginning with a rain and ending with a Stiff norther not knowing how long it will last The familey a rose Some what late this morning and after getting in Shape for work the writer proceeded too the jorse lot and fed his horse and my wifes fowls when through i returned too our kitchen then Started the fire in the cook Stove, i then went to work at assisting my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served then placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our Sabbath morning meal and when througj my wiffe taken care of her Dining and contents of that Same and put it in good Shape again, whilst the writer went to work and Swept up the rooms of our dwelling also parts of the yard after getting through i Seated my Self at my writing table then recorded what had been done this Sabath morning up to ten oclock this Sabbath morning and Still the north wind contunues to blow at a raped rate as though nothing has occured but at this writing it appears to be coming much cloudier. than earlier in the morning Now as we have Eat our noon meal being at or near too oclock this evening having a mess of green peas raised this fall in our garden we did well for the present meal rather a feast with the old people not having any since last Summer when through with our meal my wife then went to work and put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape again we then continued our Sabbath days rest in the after noon of to day the north wind was strong from the North and blew the clouds away and become clear and bright not a cloud to be Seen onley a light Spot of a cloud in the west to balance of the elements all bright and clear. The city of Crawford is quiet and Still to day as there are but little moving a round today a most too unpleaseant for travail or viseting what ever now at or near 4 - oclock the writer taken his horse in his garden adjoining alex armstrong lot adjoining the writers garden and tied him too a large clouster of Johnson grass to graze on the grass and it kept him Suplied with nice green grass to graze on up till late in the Evening from which i brought him too his Stable then fed him and the fowls and then prepared night wood for the fireplace in our bedroom also prepared Stove wood for the cook Stove and brought it in also we then Eat of (our) evening meal and after getting through and the Supper table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bedrom for a Short rest hoping to get a good nights rest to nights rest to nights rest to nigh is the de Sire of the writer and his wife to night

Monday October the 20th 1913 - Opened up quite a cold morning wind in the South Earleying morning but still cool and Still disagreeable with the Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered 40 Degrees The familey arose some what late this morning but after a rising from bed of rest and getting prepared for work the writer proceeded too the horse lot then fed the horse and my wifes fowles after i were through i returned too our kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through with our morning meal my wife went to work then put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain whilst the writer was engaged at recording what labor had been done on the premises this monday up to near nine oclock in the morning i then walked down too the post office to See if there any mail for the familey and to get my receipt for the tole that coming to me out of the last bale of cotton Sold by my renter to John B. Nichols and companey Mr E.E. Mulican i then returned home and fed my horse then curried and geered him i then eat my dinner as my wife had it Served then placed on the table readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table and prortaken of our noon meal when we were through with our noon meal my wife went to work then put her dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain whilst the writer put the bridal on his horse hitched him too my cart then drove for the middle Bosque for a load of wood and to Salt the cattle i found the Stock on the North Side of the bosque in Ed Costleys old pasture i then gave them Salt i then returned too the South Side of the bosque on the breaks of Said Streem and cut and loaded on my cart all the wood that i could pack on it then drove home with the Same and if evry part of the country was infested with the fly like where i were i am of the opinion that there horse could have not Stood it long at one place for i had to keep moving in different places for him to get any Satisfaction in the way of rest as they were So numerous After getting a load of wood on my cart i then drove for my place in the town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i taken my cart from my horse then taken the geer off of my horse gave him water then fed him after getting through i then went to work and prepared wood for the fire place in our bed room also for the cook Stove and brought the wood in doors we then eat our Evening meal that my wife had Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and after getting through and the Supper table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest and during of the time the writer recorded the above giving a Statement of the labor done by my wife and the writer to day and when through we departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of getting a good nights rest to night

Tuesday October 21 st AD 1913 - Opened up quite a clear cool morning wind from the South blowing cold and bleakey Thermometer at or near Seven Oclock A.M. of to day registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey a rose some what late this morning but after getting prepared for work the writer then proceeded too the lot and fed his horse then Shuck the corne and brought it too house and Shell the Same then fed my wifes fowls, i then Started the fire in the Stove and went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal when through my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain then taken up her dailey occupation Such as her domestic work about the house whilst the writer proceeded to move his oats in my barn to give room for to Store a way Some cotton Seed for to feed my wifes cow and yearling on this winter after getting through i then Shucked a lot of corn to Shell to go to mill with but 12 oclock and i left of work and eat my dinner as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and when through with our noon meal and the dinner table and contents cared far we taken a Short rest then the writer walked down to Nicols and companies Store to get a receipt for my part of the cotton Sold to Nicols and companey on the 12th day of October 1913 by E E Mulican come to $9.4 cts when getting the receit i returned home and with the help of archey Armstrong i put my buggy in my barn i then fed my horse and my wifes chickens when through i then prepared wood for my fire place in our bed room also in my cook Stove and brought it in doors to be handy as from the looks of the weather it has the appearancre of falling weather this evening as it had become very cloudey and a very high South west ind (wind) alday to day but was clear and bright in the first half of the day but turned out diferent to what it began on now at a late hour we eat our evening meal prepared by my wife and after we were through we moved in too our bedroom for a Short rest and during of the time the writer recorded the labor done on the premises to day by my wife and the writer and after getting through we then departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of getting a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas

Wednesday October the 22 - 1913 - Opened up quite a windy cloudey morning wind from the North west blowing Strong and active and along late in the after noon it changed too the North or in a neighbor hood of it . Thermometer at or near half past Seven oclock this morning registered at 68 Degrees tempature the familey consisting of my wife and the writer being quite old and feble arise from our bed of repose rather late evry morning but when prepared for work the writer first to do on docket is to feed and care for my horse and my wifes fowles i then return too our kitchen and then prepared the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and prepared our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then partaken of our morning meal and when through my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again then proceeded too her domestic work in her house whilst the writer walked down too the post office to get his mail and to See wether Mr E E Mulican my renter was in town or no after not finding of him i returned home and went to work on my horse Stable Stopping out the damp when it rains and doing other work a round the premisses during of the day although i made a halt in my work when i was called to eat my noon meal but after dining i taken a Short rest whilst my wife was caring for her noon day table and contents of the Same and when through She too taken a rest whilst the writer went to work on my Stable and worked up till time to do up my night chores then left of work and fed my horse and fowls and prepared wood for the fire place in our bed room and cook Stove then brought it in doors for it was turning quite cold from the Stiff norther that blew up late this evening and become quite cool and Still turning cooler although the cotton wagons comes and goes as though nothing had happened, after getting through i returned in doors we then eat our evening meal that my wife had prepared for we too old people all a lone after we were through and my wife had taken care of the Supper table and contents and had put the hole in good Shape we then moved in too our bed room by a good fire as it was turning quite cold in a Short whils whilst taking of a rest the writer finished recording of our days labors to Show what has been done to day in the way of work and as i am about through we will take a Short rest then depart too our bed of repose hoping to get a good night is the desire of the woman and the writer to night WECostley at home in Crawford Texas

Thursday October the 23 ther AD 1913 - Opened up quite a coold bleak morindy (windy) morning wind from the North East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 42 Degrees tempature The familey a rose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for work the writer proceeded too the lot then fed his horse the first thing then fed my wifes fowles i then returned too the kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove i went to work and prepared our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table, we Seated our Selves to the breakfast table then eat of our morning meal when Satisfying of our thirst for food my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer was doing other work around the premises and looking after buisiness that had to be attended too day this is a bright beautiful morning my wife appears to be much better of her ailments this morning than what she has been feeling previous to this time greatley hope up in her condition and She Still works for the better when 12 - oclock come a round we eat our noon meal that my wife had prepared for we old people and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Self too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and after we wer we were through my wife went to work and put her noon day table and contents all in good Shape again She then taken a rest and went to work again at her domestic work again and the writer went to work also as i caught and curried and put the geer on my horse then hitched him too my cart i then mounted my Self in the cart and drove over too the Bosque breaks for a load of back logs to burn in my fireplace, after arriving at the place i dismounted from my cart then went to work first on a old dead live oak Long that was partley burnt up and cut me a few back logs off of it to burn in my fire place and loaded them on too my cart then moved to a nother dead tree and cut it up and loaded it on too my cart then picked up enough down wood to make out my load i then mounted upon my cart and drove too my place in Crawford Texas after arriving at home i dismounted from my cart taken my horse from the cart taken the geer off of him gave him water then fed him i then went to work and unloaded the cart of wood and when through i prepared wood for to burn in my Sleeping room also in the cookstove, and brought it in doors to be handy, we then Eat our Evening meal that my wife has Served after we were through and my wife had put her Supper table and contents all in good Shape we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest and during my rest Spell the writer recorded the labor that has been done to day by my wife and the writer then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nigh is the desire of the old people to night. Friday October 24th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cool nice clear morning quite cool almost cold enough for frost wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when propared for work the writer then proceeded too the horse lot and fed my horse and my wifes fowls and after getting through we then put the kitchen in good Shape and the writer renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the breakfast table then eat our morning meal after Satisfying of our Selves for food we then went too work then put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again then the woman went to work at her domestic affare whilst the writer walked down too the post office for my mail and after getting of it i then returned back home and went to work to Sheling a turn of corn to go to mill with at Mcgregor to get me Some fresh meal and worked up to 12 oclock Shelling of corn but did not quite get done on account of the corn being So hard to Shell but never the less I finished after eating of my noon meal withe the help of my woman I then put the geer on my horse hitched him too my buggy then my wife and the writer mounted our Selves in the buggy i then drove over too Charley Cranfills on a Short viset and to get Some mustard greens after arriving at the place we dis mounted from our Buggy and i tied my horse too a tree we then went in doors to spend a while with the too old people Charley cranfill and wife, in a Short while 'after ariving at his old place the old man Cranfill and the writer walked down too the garden and gathered a mess of greens being Mustard as we had a plenty of turnup greens but they were too Strong for my wife to eat and after remaining for Some bit in conversation with the old folks we then mounted our Selves in too our Buggy we drove home too the town of Crawford Texas having a nice trip of it, we enjoyed our Selves finley on our trip after arriving at home at home we dismounted from our buggy and my wife went to work and prepared our Evening meal whilst the writer taken his horse from his buggy gave him water then taken the geer off of him then fed him i then returned too my wood pile and cut Some Stove wood and brought it in doors to be handy too the cook we then Eat our evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat, after we were through with our Evening meal and the table and contents cared far we moved in too our bedroom by a good fire as it was some what cool to night and after the writer had recorded the days Labor done by this writer we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of each one of the old people to night W E Costley at home in Crawford

Saturday October the 25th AD 1913 - Opened up a nice beautiful morning clear and bright wind blowing Softley but Some what cool from the South Thermometer i can not Say what it registered as i were So buisey it did not time nor thought to turn my attention too the thermometer as i had to go to McGregor to mill and after prepareing my Self for work i then fed my horse the first thing then returned too the house and renewed the fire in the cook Stove and went to work and assisted my wife in the prepareing our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal after we were through my wife went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer caught and geered my horse then hitched him too my buggy put my turn of corn in too my buggy i then mounted my Self in the buggy then drove for the Mcgregor milll to get me Some meal and onley remained just long enough to have my turn of corn wayed and Exchange for meal i then drove for my place in the town of Crawford Texas arriving at home at or near 12 - oclock noon to day i dismounted from my Buggy taken my meal out of the Bugy and brought it in doors then taken the horse from the buggy gave him water taken the geer off of him and fed him some oats i then returned too the house and prepared my Self for my my noon meal and in a few minutes the noon meal was announced readey to be eat by my wife we then Seated our Selves too the dinner table and portaken of our nooon meal after Satisfying our thirst for food my wife went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then the writer walked down in to Crawford to See what was going on and when i reached the traiding point i found the town alive with cotton on the wagon and the cotton byers a taken of it in and a large trade going on in Each and every Store in Town and they kept it up alday So ther was a great deal of cotton Sold as well as goods and you had better recon it the gins was Kept buisey all a long the line and a running the night and to cap the climax a big picture Show going on in Crawford as well So when they make the money the showman is ther to take it in all the Same so that is the way the world is aliding to day mr E E Mulican my renter got his cotton gined but not in time to sell it so he drove it in too my lot to a wait Monday morning for the want of time to Sell, Now at or near five oclock the writer returned from Town and done up my feeding and the prepareing of wood for the fire place and cook Stove and brought it in doors to be handy we then Eat our Evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat after we were through and my wife had taken care of her evening table and contents of the Same we then moved in too our bed room for a Short while and during the time the writer recorded our days labors for to day and as we are through we will now depart too our bed or repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer to night WE Costley at home in the town of Crawford Town of Crawford Texas
