Myrtie Inez HOLLOWAY is pictured with three of her cousins from her mother’s
side of the family, Lee, Ida and Herman MATTHEWS. Myrtie was born June 23, 1898 and was the
last child born to Mary Alzada HOWARD HOLLOWAY of Mart, Texas. Myrtie’s
mother died March 8, 1899 when she was less
than a year old and was raised by her grandparents, Jasper H. and Mary
Elizabeth HOWARD, of Mart until she was about ten years old. At that
time, she went to live with her father, Frank Pierce HOLLOWAY, and her other
brothers and sisters in Omen, Smith County, Texas. She was married to Robert Andy DARK
born August 13, 1988 and died August 21, 1947. Myrtie DARK died in Tyler, Smith County, Texas May 21,
1980 |

was built in 1901-1902. Its cornerstone is now located in Oakwood Cemetery at

old when his parents, Jasper H. and Mary Elizabeth Matthews Howard moved to Mart in McLennan County, Texas. Mr. Howard
purchased 200 acres and was a farmer and deacon in the Mart Baptist Church
until his death in 1902. |

Honored at a “Pioneer Party” at the [Austin Avenue Methodist] church
this week, six women charter members of Austin Avenue Methodist Church were crowned
with wreaths of orchids and two men with crowns of gold. The party was given
by Mrs. J. R. Milam as the occasion marked Mr. Milam’s birthday
anniversary. However, this fact was not
known until the party was almost over. Pictured above are the honored
