Monday September the 21st AD 1914 Opened up quite a nice cool morning Some few calcarious clouds floating about air wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 76 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table the announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our morning meal after all were through and the morning table and contents of the Same the woman folks prepared then paid Mrs Edna Kelley a viset in the fore noon of the day and the writer remained at home and did Some writing to my friend at Crawford Texas and wrote up untill toler (tolerable) late in the Evening from which i left off writing and went to work to hoeing in Mrs M V Frownfelter black burries and hoed up too night fall from which i left of work and returned too the house washed my face and hand then we eat our evening meal and when through and the Suppertable and contents cared far the familey taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night WE Costley at home at Mr G.W.Frownfelter and wife at Joshua Texas

Tuesday September the 21st AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cloudey damp morning wind from the South blowing damp and dreary as the Elements denote rain Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 74 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning but after being prepared for work the cooks went too work and Soon had the morning meal on the breakfast table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal after the familey were through with there morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far M V Frownfelter and children porceeded too the wash tubb to wash the famileys wearing appearel and old lady Kept house and the old man Costley walked up in too town to mail a letter that i had wrote to C.J. Cranfield of Crawford Texas after mailing of the letter i then returned back too Mrs Frownfelters and went to hoeing in her garden getting the grass out from her blackbruuies to give them room to grow and did not hoe but a Short while untill the wash womans and the old man Costley had to leave off work and come in doors on account of the rain that blew up from the north west never the less it did not stop the eating part as when the time come a round for the cooks to prepare the noon meal they went to work and soon had it on the dinner table and announced readey too be eat we all Seated our Selve too the noon day dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and when the familey were through and the dinner table and contents cared for the familey all taken a rest as they could not do anything Else as it were raining and lightning and thrundring as they could not do the work they had Started to do in the morning So they had to go too there needle work to finish out there days work for to day the writer worked at writing letters and recording in this book the labor that was done by the familey to day. and when the days labor was finished and there evening meal was eat and the evening dining table was cared far we then taken our usual rest and the writer had finished recording of the labors done by the familey for to day and did Some other writing that i had to do we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey W.E. Wednesday September the 23dh AD 1914- Opened up quite a damp morning from the rain that fell on the last past evening wind from the North blowing Strong Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 70 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the woman went to work as usual then prepared our morning meal, as they usually do. and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves down at the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal when through and the table and contents cared far we then had not much to do onley the woman to do the domestic work a bout the house and the writer to employ my mind i went to work to writing Some letters too my children in Hamalton county Texas Mr J M Costley and familey of Hamalton county Texas and write up too 2- 6 oclock then as the cooks had prepared our noon meal and places the Same on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves at the table then portaken of the Same and when all the dinner table and contents cared far the woman then went too there needle work again whilst my wife walked up to Edna Kelleys to pass off the time as She was too old to work The writer walked up too the post office to mail a couple of letters one too J.M.Costley and familey and the other one to Tom Stirling and wife Hamelton County Texas the other one too Tom Stirling of Crawford Texas and when i was through i walked in at the too Kelly and Brother and purchased a couple of boxes of matches then returned too Mr and Mrs George Frownfelter then went to work and re the labors done by the familey to day up to too oclock Pm then taken a rest a gain as She had nothing for me to do i could do well and besides it was quite cool for the first norther that has been this year come up on the last past night after the rain that fell yestarday evening from the North west a regular Electrick thunder storm Now at or near too oclock for the first Since i landed in Joshua on 20th September AD 1914 taken a Stroll a round the out Skirts of Joshua johnson County i first started from G.W. Frownfelters premises and went south untill i passed the old lady frownfelters old place down the railroad in the direction of Cleburn then taken a road runing East being the South side of the old Ladys Frownfelter old place and traveled East untill i struck the public road leading from Joshua to Cleburn then traveled said road around to a little station called Burbank on the interurban road leading too Cleburn on the line of said road and after strolling a round for a bit i returned in to Joshua on the Clebers and Joshua leading by the Denton Colage then from said colage direct west i struck across to George Frownfelters place on the out skirts of Joshua Johnson County Texas and after arriving at my destination i taken a short rest then went to work and pened my trip down to be remembered in after days by my children here after as such a trip to be taken by a man of my age soon will be 82 years old and head as gray as a rat an not in good health by no means and when through in a Short while Supper was announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our even meal and when all the familey was through with there evening meal and the Supper table and contents cared far we then taken a rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E. Thursday September the 24th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 56 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the woman folks prepared the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then went to work in earnest as the familey had to thrash out there blackeyed peas that they had geathered and the writer had to rake up some grass that i had cut up before the rain fell at Joshua on Tuesday September the 22th 1914 and after getting through and evry thing piled up in a manner that it could not take root again i enlisted with the familey and hope to thrash out blackeyed peas and worked Some too hours up till noon then we eat our noon meal as it was Served and placed on the table by Louesey Lang and when announced readey we eat the Same after all were through and the dinner table and contents were cared far we all taken a rest then went too work a gain the familey working at the peas whilst the writer was engaged at making a garden gate and after completing of it Willey Frownfelter and the writer hung the Same then taken a rest as the writer was really tiard from his work, making of the gate and just after finishing the drum Started to beat giving the people warning that they would Show in Joshua to night then in a Short whild we eat our evening meal as Louses had it Served a gain for the familey and when announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the Suppertable then portaken of our evening meal Served by Louese Leng again and when all were through we then taken our Evening rest again and when through our Short rest we then departed too our bed of repose hoping too get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey W.E.Costley and wife at Mr and Mrs G W Frownfelter's in Joshua Texas

Friday September the 25th AD 1914- Opened up quite a morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near Seven ockock this morning registered at 60 Degrees tempature The familey arose quite late this morning and after being prepared for work the woman folks prepared the morning meal Mary Frownfelter went to work and put the breakfast table in good Shape again then the familey proceeded too there accustimary work as usual as to my wife she was sick in bed as she had a long contunued chill last night lasting the principal part of the night and not feeling in no ways well this morning as to the writer and the balance of the familey they are all on foot able to eat there allowance it is to be hoped that She will be Soon alright again it is bright and cool this morning to what it was on yestarday morning as the wind was quite Strong from the north the traines on the Santafe are making things lively with heavey loaded freight trains and also pasenger trains going and coming both ways and the trains are very long on the Santafe line now at or Eleven oclock a m Billey Frownfelter and a boy by the name of Jones and the writer taken a walk west of the Santefe Railroad over on too the publick road leading from joshua too Cleburn. after coming too the road we taken the north end of said road and traveled up too a house by the name of Mr Jones who live all a lone he had a lot of water melons and call on him for a few and he gave his too melons as he thought that would be a plenty for the three in number which it were after getting the melons William Frownfelter and young Jones retraced our steps back home whilst the writer come back through Joshua near by to see if there were any mail for the familey after arriving at the post office i made the enqurey but there were not any mail for us no(t) any of us so i rode from town in the Kelley boys delivery wagon and William did the driving down too his house in the out skirts of town and after a lighting from the hack i then walked too Mrs Frownfelter a short wasp off from when i left the delivery wagon at W m Kellys after arriving at home we then eat our noon meal as they had it Served and placed on the table and a waiting for the familey to eat we then Seated our Selves too the table and eat our noon meal after all were through and the dinner table and contents was cared far the writer then walked up in too Joshua and mailed a letter too G A Dotson of Comanche Town Texas then returned back on the railroad too where a companey was regraiding the road where it had slid in too the track the banks had caved off on the side of the road and made the road nearley impasible too traffic by the cars and after looking on as long at there work as i cared too i then returned home at my daughters Virginia Frownfelter of Joshua, after arriving at home i had to take another trip up in Joshua for Some Ether for my wife as She has been very cold ever Since last night up to three oclock this evening from which She become Some warmer after taking of the Ether. now as it is growing late and but little else to do onley to Eat we will eat our evening meal then take another rest then depart too our bed of repose hoping the entire familey will receive a good rest to night is the desire of the familey as it is quite cool and bright alday long i am thinking that it come very near frosting to night as it appear to be turning cold quite fast WE Costley at my Daughters M V. Saturday September the 26th AD 1914- Opened up quite a clear cold morning wind from the South East blowing cool Thermometer at or near 8-oclock this morning registered at 56 Degrees tempature with a good prospect of a nice cool day The familey a rose quite late this morning when readey for buisiness the woman went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far then all made preporation for work Virginia Frownfelter and familey prepared for the wash tub then went to work to prepare there morning meal and when Served then placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then went the out Side doore work the writer to hoeing in the blackburrie vines getting grass out of them and Virginia Frownfelter and daughters prepared them Selves for the wash tub and proceeded to wash the families garments while my wife lay in the bed Sick and has been ever since night before last but appears to be some better to day but has not sit up any as yet but drank some soop this morning Now at or near 12-oclock noon to day we eat our noon meal Served by Louese Leng and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our noon meal and when all were through and the table cared far the writer walked up too Kelley and Brothers and purchased some Lemons for my wife as she appeared to want something sower (sour) to drink after returning with the same Virginia Frownfelter made her up a drink in the form of lemonade and she drank hearty of it and appeared to greatley revive her feelings as she was quite feble and neaded recruiting up a great deal now as we have whiled a way our time untill it is growning late Some at one accossion and others at diferent work So we made out our evening work by hoeing out the black burries vines to get them rid of the Knoxious grass and weeds as they were quite fowl and neaded work badley all a long the line and hoed will on too the cose of the day making good headway at the buisiness and closed at being Satisfied with our days work for to day it being Saturday and will get to rest to morrow being Sunday the lords day and a day of rest we then Eat our evening meal as the cook had it Served and on the table readey to eat a bout that time G.W. Frownfelter come in from off of his Frisco line by the way from Fort Worth on the Santafe passenger to Joshua to see his familey we then eat our evening meal and when all were through with there evening meal and the Supper table and contents cared far we then taken a rest for a while in clost conversation as G.W.Frownfelter had to return back too his post on the Frisco line as he was road master of said line or rather a good portion of it so he soon left for his work on his line of rail road. My wife appears to be much better this evening of her ailments we will now depart too our bed or repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nights rest to night is the desire of the familey too night WE Costley at Mr and Mrs. G W Frownfelters Joshua Texas

Sunday September the 27th AD 1914- Opened up quite a bright clear morning not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 56 Degrees tempature The familey arose quite late this morning but when prepared far work they went to work and and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves down at the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then continued to rest all but Miss Louese Leng and Miss Mary Frownfelter they went to Sunday School also to church and Mr George William Felter (Frownfelter) Junior went to locate a place to pick cotton on tomorrow being Monday September the 28th A D 1914-So that just left the lady of the house Mrs M.V. Frownfelter and my wife Mr(s) M.V. Costley and the writer to keep house all a lone but being bright light clear day for the buisiness not a cloud top be Seen in the Elements made it certain that it was well observed both in boddy and mind and when the Sabathe day noon meal come on to be eat we were readey for the feast all though my wife were in the bed not able to be up we then Seated our Selve down too the dinner table then portaken of our Sabbath noon meal eating quite hearty of what was Served and placed before the familey to be eat and when through and the dinner table and contents was cared far we then taken it (our) time about reading the waco Tribune as we just obtained a coppy of it this morning being our home paper not (now) we Spent the day quitiey as my wife appears to be much better then She had been in some time having a great deal of companey after Servises to day as there After services today as there were about Seven Sermonds preached in the Town of Joshua Texas by the Methodist Presbyterions Babtist missionary and the primitive Babtist and when the day ended and all had eat there evening meal then the young people all went to night meeting again whilst the olderfolks remained at home and after resting for some time we departed too our bed of repose hopping to get a good night srest to night is the desire of the familey WE Costley at Mr and Mrs G.F.Frownfelter at the Town of Joshua Texas

Monday September the 28th AD 1914- AD 1914- Opened up a bright clar morning wind from the South blowing cool and brasing Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 62 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what late this morning and after prepareing then Selves for there days labors The woman went to work then prepared the morning meal in haste and after getting of the morning meal Served and placed on the table we then portaken of our morning meal and when through Miss M. Frownfelter went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the remainder of the woman went to work and put the bed rooms in good Shape again as to my wife She was in the bed Sick not able to do any thing what ever The writer went to work at the blackburry peach and appe and plum orchard cleaning the grass and weed out of them and worked up too about Eleven oclock A M then left off work and walked up too the Drug store for some morphene Tablets for my wife. and when ast for i was refused the medison by the Drugist untill i obtained a precription from a Doctor, So i had to light out and obtain the document befor i could obtain the medison So when i obtained the document it was no trouble to get the medison after abtaining of the Same i then returned too the place of my a bode at my Daughter M.V. Frownfelter wher my wife and i are Stopping at the p(r)esent after arriving at the place i then gave my wife a tablet of morphene to giver for Some rest which it did and as our noon meal was Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same and when through and the table and contents cared far then the familey taken Short rest again and after resting for a bit all the able hands went to work again Some at putting down a carpet in Loueses bed room. whilst the writer was buisey recording what had been done in the fore part of the day and after getting of that done i went to work at the orchard a gain as i could get no help at putting up the Stove and worked untill i did get help then put it up all the Same day we then taken a walk over in the pasture a cross the Santafe R Y R on the west Side of the Same to look for a posam that got a way from Willey Frownfelter on the last past night let out did not jump him up any more So we returned back to the we Started from and then make a trip up in town to mail a letter too the Crawford Advance and when i returned back too the place i finished recording the days labors of the familey that was done on the premises to day after working till a late hour we then eat our evening meal as Mary Frownfelter had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and when through and the Suppertable and contents cared for we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer WE Costley at G W Frownfelter and wife M.V. Tuesday September the 29th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool morning but bright and clear wind earley from the nort Sprang up after day brake come in and Sudentley turned cooler Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 60 Degrees tempature. with a good prospect of a bright cool day a head apart of the familey a rose from there bed of repose quite earley this morning whilst the remaining part did not arise So earley on account of one member having to go about three miles to pick cotton from the Town of Joshua in Johnson county Texas and that was William Frownfelter of the Town. but he rode Some too miles of the way o the inter urban train but getting too the place where he was to pick cotton when he left the train he had to walk a bout a mile before getting too the place where he was to work and after the remiaining part of the familey had made preperations for there morning meal then eat the Same we too went to attend the affares about the premises as there was nothing else that could be done just now my wife is Still in bed Sick not able yet to be up but better this morning now Since morning being a bout ten oclock A.M. of to day the wind changed too the east blowing quite cool and brisk all a long but still remains bright and cool all the Same as thought nothing had happened in the cross timbers evry thing of a moving nature appears up and doing to day the School that is going on at the Denton Colage appears to be in high glee at the present time all appears to be in a working but the white fleesy Staple it appears to be at a Stand Still no one anxious to by it at no price what evever as there is plenty of wearning apparrel on hand for the world at large for the next ten years at any rate. the manufactor is over runing the consumer of to day that is one thing is what is ailding (ailing?) with the market today. Reduce the raising of cotton and the price will go up directley and over plus of any thing brings a low price of any thing that is raised diversify your crop and you will be able to get a better price for what you raise to sell to your neighbor at all times to come Now when our noon meal come on to be eat we Seated our Sel es too the table then portaken of the Same and when through and the dinner table and contents we cared far the woman folks went too work to put up a quilt this evening and did put it up but sent the writer up in the Town of Joshua to get a spool of thread to quilt and baught the thread from Kelley and brothers, then returned home with the same and as Mrs M.V. Frownfelter had some help they went to work in a hurry and soon completed the job of quilting as a good maney hands makes lite work The Sun shines quite bright this evening and not a cloud to be Seen in the elements it is So clear now after resting from taking a walk after the thread i taken a walk up too the depot by way of the railroad track to find out the way to go to Hamalton Town in Hamalton County Texas and did not learn much about the rout i then taken a walk in too Joshua by the way of the beef market to get a soop bone to make some soop for my wife to drink as she is a bed sick but could not get it but purchased a part of the brisket of the beef then paid for the same and returned home then Mary Frownfelter put it on to cook to make soop out of as my wife began to want some to drink to quench her thirst and feverish feelings that She had as She has been Sick for Some time past and after getting back from a trip after the beef i then went to work to hoeing in Mrs. M.V. Frownfelters blackburry orchard and hoed up till late in the Evening, i then left off that part of the work and Sawed up Some wood for the heeting Stove in the bed room and brought it in doors but being as warm as it were we did not use the wood to burn we then eat our evening meal as it were prepared and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and when the familey had eat the evening meal and the table and contents cared far we then takenour usual rest and when rested a gain we departed too our bed of repose hoping that all the familey may have a good rest to night is the desire of the familey to night. Wednesday September the 30th AD 1914- Opened up a bright cool morning wind in the north but changed too the East at or near 10-Oclock A M of to day. Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 60 Degrees this morning. Some of the familey was out of bed Some what Earley this and Some few of the familey arose Some at late as my wife was one of the croud as She did not Set up untill the evening and The writer was one of the familey that were late in rising at when prepare for our morning meal it was on the table readey to be eat we the Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same and after all were through and breakfast table and contents cared far we then began ferry out a way for Louese to go up too Doget neighborhood too have her School contract Signed up to teach a School So Starting out after a nag and buggy to go in we Struck Mrs Edwards and She let us have her buggy and horse being a bout 12 miles to go So after getting prepared for the trip Louese Leng and my Self mounted in too the buggy then drove too the School community in which She is too teach School in and har School contract Signed by the strustees then the next thing that was to do was to find a boarding house to Stay at during the Stie that She will be teaching School in the neighbornood for Six month or more and She found a Place to boarding a bout 200 yard of School house where She is to teach School which we found quite handy when through with her buisiness we then retraced our foot Step back home being a bout 12 miles too the place making 24 miles the trip there and back passing Some very nice country and other parts of the county not So nice as parts of the country was quite broken and rough and rocky and the part adjoining Joshua was timbered and Sandy Soil we went too the Rock creed School house and a couple of miles beyand it and back home at or near too oclock this evening to make Shure of her School after arriving at home the writer fed the nag that we drove we then eat our noon meal and when through with our noon meal and the animal through eating i taken the buggy and animal home and Striped the animal of the geer and put the buggy house then, returned home and recorded the above then taken a walk up i too Joshua Texas and from the buisiness part of the Town over East from the name part of the Town to the interurban Station on the interurban line to See the Threshermen thrash Pear nuts but after arriving at the Interurban depot it was Some what too late to go any farthe So i returned back home by the way of the Denton Colage and on home being quite late at evening So after arriving at my place of abode and the evening meal being Served the familey with the Exception of my Self eat the evening meal but as i eat a late dinner i did not care to to eat any Supper and after the balance of the familey had dined and the evening table and contents cared far there was a lot of ladies came in to viset the familey and sing and play on the Peanno and after exercising them selves for some bit they departed too there place of abode, then the familey departed too there bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest a night is the desire of the familey W E Costley at G W and Mrs MV Frownfelters in the Town of Joshua Texas

Thursday October the 1st 1914-Opened up a cool bright morning wind from the North Eas(t) blowing quite mild but cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registers at 60 Degrees tempatur with a prospect of a nice cool day The familey a rose Some what earley this morning and after being prepared for work the woman folks went to work then prepared the morning meal for the familey, and when Served and placed on the table then announced ready to eat we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our morning meal all eat heartiley this morning of the familey but Mrs M V Frownfelter She did not eat any breakfast what ever as She taken a weak Spell and had to go too bed again as too my wife She relished food nicely this morning but not able to go too the table after the familey were through with there morning meal and the table and it contents all cared far then the familey engaged in other work a bout William Frownfelter went to pick cotton again and M.V. Frownfelter had recovered from heak nervous spell and went to quilting on her quilt again. whilst Mary Frownfelter taken care of the house hole affares and Louese Leng walked up in too Joshua to attend too Some buisiness with one of her trestees of her School in Sighning up a contract concerning the management of the teaching of her School Some nine or ten miles north of Joshua on rock Creek in Johnson County Texas. and the first work for the writer to do was too recort (record) the work done by familey in the earley morning then to go too my work my Self in the garden hoeing out the Blackbury vines for Mrs. M.V. Frownfelter my Daughter and worked up too 12-oclock noon today then left off work and returned too the house and eat my dinner as the cook had it Served and placed on the table and announsed readey to be eat So we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when through the writer taken a rest and Mary Frownfelter Junior taken care of the dinner table and contents and put evry thing in good Shape again whilst her Mother went too the wash tub to wash Some germents for the familey but when the writer taken a rest he went to work in the black burry patch again and worked Some bit then left of work to do up the Schores a round the premises but fore commensing that work Miss Mary Frownfelter and young Mr Jones walked over to the east side of Joshua to see them thrash pea nuts the Spanish peanut. they had about six or seven hundred bushel thrashed out and about wond up thrashing and aimed at moving the peanut thrasher on the north Side of Joshua to thrash out a crop that was readey for him to thrash after remaining for Some time but we then brought a gallon of peanuts from the owner pay him ten cts a gallon as that the amout that i baught from the owner. we then returned home with our feast of peanuts, after arriving at home i recorded the Same then done up our night Schores then eat our evening meal and taken our usual rest before going to bed and when farely rested we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W E Costley at home at G. Friday October the 2th AD 1914- Opened up quite a nice clear morning quite cool wind in north East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 64 Degrees tempature. The familey arose from our bed of repose Some what earley this morning and after being prepared for buisiness the woman folks went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table cared far we then went to different work to be done on the premises that was to be done on the premises to day Such as picking pease and hoeing in the black burries vines cleaning and pruning them out, and other work that was to be done about the premises up to 12-oclock noon to day from which after the noon meal was Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the same, and when all the familey were through and the dinner table and content cared far the familey went to work a gain at a bout the Same Kind of work as we had been doing through out the day as to William Frawnfelter left to pick cotton 3 or 4 miles away from home he goes and comes on the interurban train night and morning and has it to do to get work as there is no cotton to pick near his place where he lives there are compelled to leave home to get the cotton to pick just now untill the cotton openes up better being late a round his place of a bode the writer did not make much of a head way hoeing this morning as after hoeing for a bit i taken a weak Spell and had to leave off work and come too the house and wait on the Spell and at or near Eleven oclock A.M. of to day it began to cloud up again as it has been dying (?) for Several days past representing a down falj of Some Kind of fowl weather but has not made its appearance as yet at or near fore oclock this Evening the writer left off work this evening and went to Joshua Postoffice to mail a letter too Mr and Mrs C H Cranfill at Crawfor and after mailing of the letter i walked Kelley and Brothers Store and seated my Self then taken a Short rest then returned back home and went too work in the black burry patch hoeing the grass out of it and hoed untill quite late then left off work to prepare Some wood for the heeting Stove as a general rule it turns quite cool after night fall. and after prepareing the Same and bringing of it in doors to be readey when neaded we then eat our evening meal. after the familey were through and the table and content was cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E. Saturday October the 3dh AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool cloudey morning wind from the South west, blowing cool and refreshing Some what cloudey Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 64 Degrees tempature. The familey at or near Seven oclock arose from there bed of repose and after getting prepared for buisiness went too work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through William Frownfelter taken his trip 4 miles to pick cotton as he rode three of them on the interuban Electric car which was a great Saving of walking that distance but has to walk a mile after leaving the car to get to the cotton patch to pick the cotton whilst Virginia Frown felter and familey went to work and put the breakfast table and contents in good Shape a gain and the writer for his part went to work picking peas and hoeing in the blackburrie vines to clean them out So they could bare well as they neaded loosening up and triming the blackburries to make then produce nice burries. Mary Frownfelter walked up too the postoffice for our mail but did not get any. our friends has for Saken us i expect and want us to remind them of there forgetfullness now as we have portaken of our noon meal as we have taken our usual rest we will all go to work a gain. the writer Spent the evening in gathering peas and Louese Leng taken a trip down to Cleburn this evening too attend to Some buisiness that She had to attend too and go too a picture Show that was to be Shown to night Virginia Frownfelter and Mary Frownfelter attended too the house whole affares and to prepare the evening meal and when the days work was done and the familey had returned in doors from there days labors we then eat our evening meal that was prepared for the familey and when all were through and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest and departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a nice nights rest to night is the desire of the writer WE Costley at G.W. and M.V. Sunday October the 4th AD 1914- Opened up a raw day quite cloudy wind blowing damp and cool from the South East but before ten oclock changed too the west but getting no warmer Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 62 Degrees tempature. The familey a rose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work the woman folks went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal although late being a rest day and after the familey had eat there morning meal and the breakfast table and contents was cared far then Louese Leng and Mary frownfelter prepared them Selves and went to Sunday School and too church whilst the balance of the familey remained at home to attend the premises and Still the good work goes on as there were nothing happened. to day. now as the day passes a way there is a greater prospect than ever for a change. in the weather as the wind blows just as though it were off of a bank of ice which it must be from the feeling of the presure of the wind and a dark and heavey cloud hangin the Elements with a muddy appearance as though it might rain and that Shortley and in all probability there may be a Sleet or Snow before it cleans up at or near Eleven oclock to day Virginia Frownfelter began to prepare noon day Sabbath meal in the absence of her girls and after getting Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and when thought and the dinnner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then William Frownfelter and the writer taken a walk South down the Public road leading too Cleburn from Joshua down a long this side of the inturban road line for Some too miles and probably Some three miles from Joshua we then crossed in too a hog pasture and a peanut feel west untill we Struck the Santafe road then traveled on that line of road back to the place of our abode to Joshua Texas making Some Six miles that we had walk and when we arrived at home we found Mrs MeKee was visiting the familey this Sabbath Evening and they appeared to be enjoying them Selves niceley and after resting for a bit i then went to work and recorded our trip that we taken this evening and on our rout we past a large chicken ranch also a hog ranch and large field of peanuts and Some Smaller one in porticular had a bout 50 acres or more in peanuts and Several large potato patches Sweet potatoes and also in our travail we pass Several large orchard of peach and apple orchards as well as pare orchards and traveled a beautiful rail road back home being the old Santafe and too very long traines on the Santafe passed on the road goining South in the direction of my old home Crawford Texas by this time it was growing late So wwe went to work and done up the nights Schores then eat our evening meal that the woman folks had prepare for the familey and when through and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then taken our usual evening rest then departed too our bed of rest hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey WE Costley at .Mr and Mrs. G. Monday October the 5th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey damp cool morning wind from the South west blowing Some what Strong Thermommeter at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 66 Degrees tempature. The familey this morning arose Some what earlier than common then after getting prepared for work the girles went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the to eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through, the cooks went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape whilst William Frownfelter let on the interuban train to pick cotton again Some fore miles North of Joshua Texas and the balance of the family remained at home too look after the place as too the writers wife and him Self they are here in Joshua at there daughters just whileing a way there last days not doing much of anything what ever only eat and Sleep but both on foot this morning was able to go too the breakfast table and eat there morning meal this morning Everything appears to be quiet a round Joshua this morning and the freight and pasenger cars appear to be running on Scedule time this morning making evry harmomous. now after getting through with the morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far then the familey went to work at there evry day house work and William Frownfelter went too picking cotton Some 4 miles North of Joshua but there is Some 3 miles of the rout he goes on the Interban cars runing from Fort Worth too Clebur and walks one mile of the way the woman folk worked at there needlework with the exception of once and a while Louese Leng would play a tune or too on the Peanno to rest her Self then go to work again. whilst the writer was engaged at writing a letter too my Son and familey near Gusteen or rather Energy some 4 miles South of Said last place mentioned and after getting of it wrote late in the Evening Louese Leng taken it and mailed the Same whilst the writer made out his dailey (re)port of the labor done on the premises to day as it was drawing near the close of the day and william Frownfelter had returned from his cotton picking we then Eat our Evening meal after the familey had dined and the evening table and contents was cared far we all taken usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a pleasant rest to night is the desire of the familey WE Costley at G W and Mrs M V Frownfelter in Joshua Tesas

Tuesday October the 6th AD 1914- Opened up quite a nice clear morning bright and clear wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 66 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for work Virginia Frownfelter and her Daughter Mary Frownfelter perpared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the breakfast table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our morning meal all the familey dined hartiley and when through with our morning meal the woman went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain then each and evry one went too there dailey occupation whilst William Frown felter walked over too the inturban road to take the car to go about three miles on Said road to pick cotton as that was the nearest that was opened to pick just at this time whilst the writer aimes too hoe in Virginias blackburrie vines too day a bitter old job i can tell you to encounter with but it has to be done by Some one in order to keep the vine healthy So it is of no use to dread it whatever So pitch in dan (done) for all it is worth and So i did and worked up to near Eleven oclock then left off work then returned too the house and taken a rest as i was weak it did not take no great deal to get me very tiard So after resting for Some time we then eat our noon meal that the woman had just prepared for the familey taken arest for Some bit then went to work again the woman at there needle work whilst the writer taken a walk up in too the Town of Joshua to while a way the time and to get Some headache tablets for my wife as She has a headache to day which is quite unpleasant and after returning with the medison i then walked in too the blackburry patch and hoed up till quite late at night then left off work and returned too the house and prepared my self for my evening meal and when readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table and then protaken of our evening meal and when troug (through) and the Suppertable and contents all cared far we all taken rest for Some bit then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey WE Costley at G.W.and M.V. Wednesday October the 9th AD 1914- Opened up Some what a cloudey morning with a great maney muddy clouds floating in the air as though there would be a change in the weather Soon but it has been having at appearance for Some time past and havent come a change yet wind brisk from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 68 Degrees tempature The familey all too Willey Frownfelter a rose Some what late this morning and whilst being So late willey Frownfelter had eat his breakfast and had gone to work when the balance of the familey arose from there bed out after we become prepared for our meal we eat the Same and when the familey were all through with there meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then went to work a gain the woman went too the needle work and the writer went picking blackeyed peas and gathered peas up too eleven oclock and become So worried that i had to leave of work and take a rest So i rested up too 12-oclock we then eat our noon meal and when through and the dinner table and contents cared far we all then taken a Short rest then went to work again the woman too there needle work all to Lousese Leng She went to thumping on her Piano trying to learn to play on to play on it. and the writer, to finishing out his dailey report of the labors done on the premises up too too oclock to day after getting through i then went to work to finish writing my Son ED. Thursday October the 8th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool damp cloudey morning wind from the South west blowing damp and cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 66 Degrees tempature with a good prospect of a change in the weather and that Soon The familey arose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for work M.V.Frownfelter and her Daughter Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the breakfast table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and meal and when all the familey were through with there meal and the breakfast table and contents put a way in good Shape all the familey proceeded to there dailey labors William Frownfelter to picking cotton out North of Joshua in the neighbor hood of burleson on the interurban line from Cleburne too Fort Worth and Mrs Frownfelter and her daughter Mrs Edna Kelley washing the garments for there famileys and Louese Leng to cooking and taken care of Edna Kelleys baby and the writer to hoeing in the blackburrey orchard whilst my wife was passing away the time reading of the Waco Tribine come to Joshua on the last past nigh too the writer at Joshua Texas So when the noon day dinner was Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we all taken a Short rest but the wash woman went Strait to work again did not pretend to rest one minutes even and when the writer got through he went to work and at recorded the work that we had done in the first part of the day when through i wrote more in my letter too my Son in Waco Texas after getting through i walked up too Kelley and brothers Store in the Town of Joshua for a Sack of Smoking tobaco as he had the best too my notion to Smoke in a pipe the best that i have Smoken since i have been in Joshua Johnson County Texas and when i returned back too G.W.and Mrs M.V. Friday October the 9th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool damp cloudey morning quite cool wind from the South west blowing tolerably Strong Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 68 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning but after being prepared for work Virginia Frownfelter and her Daughter mary went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the tale the portaken of our morning meal and when all were throug the familey began to Scatter out too there dailey labors Willey Frownfelter taken the interurbin train too his cotton patch on there line to pick cotton as that is the nearest point that he can get cotton to pick being about five miles away Virginia Frownfelter went over west across the Santefe Railroad to feed a lot of hogs that She was attending for her neighbor in his absence away from home and when She returned back home She then prepared her Self for ironing the close (cloth) that She washed yesteray having Louese Leng too assist her in the ironing of the clothes whilst Mary Frownfelter was engaged at taken care of the breakfast table and putting of it in good shape again as to my wife She is a invalid not able to help do anything what ever onley to wat on herSelf as She has been quite Sick of late but is gradually getting better all a long the line, just now, and improves a little evry day i am of the openion. The wind is quite Strong to day indicates a change in the weather before a great while now after gathering peas for Some little bit I continue to hoe in the blackburrie orchard getting a long quite Slow with it it is So fowl and tedious to work at but i Shurley clean it but as ___ go it it is Slow. to behold and left off work at or near Eleven oclock A M of to day and returned too the house and prepared my Self for my noon meal and when prepared we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then eat our noon meal onley fore of us to eat my wife and Daughter and grandaughter the balance being a way from home at work after we were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short test then all but my wife She is not able to work Virginia Frownfelter and Daughter Louese Leng went to ironing of her or rather the families clothes whilst the writer went to work and recorded the work that was done on the premises too day up to 2 - oclock P.M. of to day then taken a rest as the writer being feble felt Some what tiard from the work that i did to day then finished writing my letter too E D Costley my Son of Waco Now the balance of the evening was spent loriting a bout after mailing of my letter to ED Costley and when our evening meal was Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when through and the evening table cared far Then it were that Mrs M.V. Frownfelter and too of her Daughters Misses Louese Leng and Mary Frownfelter riged up and went too the Missionare Babtist prayer meeting whilst Willey Frownfelter and the writer remained at home as Willey was tiard from hard labor to day bending over the cotton Stalks alday picking cotton and the old folks were too old to tramp a bout at night, So when our time come to go to bed we retired for the night hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer W. Saturday October the 10th AD 1914- Opened up with a Norther on hand blowing briskley and cool from the north, but clear and bright all a long the line Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 64 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for work, wen(t) to work then Served the morning meal and when Served and whence placed on the table the familey Seated them Selves too the table then portaken of there morning meal and when through Willey Frownfelter proceeded to the Depot to take the inturuban car to whe(re) is picking cotton near a Station called Burleso(n) on the line too Fort Worth to Claburn Texas and the writer went to work to writer a letter too the Editor of the Crawford Advance and when throug mailed it in connection with one Louese write i then returned home by the way of the Joshua Star Office and obtained a paper to read So i could get the news of the week of Joshua i then returned home and prepared my Self to go too the black burry patch to work and at the time i were readey to go to work Mrs M.V.Frownfelter wanted the writer to go too the gin for Some cotton to go in a quilt but did not get it but was promis the cotton on further up in the day So i returned home then went to hoeing in the black burrie orchard and hoed up to 12-oclock noon to day from which i left work and returned too the house and as the noon meal was Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents cared we then taken a Short rest then all went to work again M.V.Frownfelter washed her childrens heads first on docket and when throug they then went too there needle work again whilst the writer Seated him Self at his writing and began to read the pape(r) that is the Joshua Star and went to Sleep reading after waking up i then went too recording of our days labors that has been done on the premises to day up to too - oclock this evening and when Ketching up with my work i layed the book to one Side and began to write a letter too my Son at waco E.D.Costley and Spent the most of the latter part of the evening writing to him and hoeing a gain in the blackburry vines untill late at evening then left off work before our evening meal come on to be eat and about the time i returned too the house and Seated my Self down in the East Galery of the house to rest G.W.Frownfelter came in from fort worth too See his familey and to meet at the Masonic Hall to night as they are giving a Ice cream Supper to nig too there members and families going too have a good time all a long the line after passing a familey curtsey of welcom by shaking hands with each other as a token of friend ship we then eat our evening meal as the woman folks had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat and after getting through and the Suppertable and contents cared far the Frownfelter and familey proceedced too the Mason Lodge to be readey for there ice cream Supper and My wife Mrs. M. Frownfelter taken the interurban train as he had to (be) there in time to take the Frisco train too Brownwood as that is his line to work on as roadmaster So he left at near Seven oclock this morning as he had to be in Fort Worth at 8- 48 So it could make connection at Fort Worth and Willey Frownfelter and louese Leng also Mary Frownfelter all went too Sunday School today and returned a few minutes after oclock noon to day we then eat our noon meal for to day as it was growning Some what late in the day after all were through with our noon meal and the table and contents were cared far then Miss Louese Leng and her associate crate went to practicing on the Peanna whilst the writer Seated him Self in the east End of hous gallary then taken a good long rest as it was cloudey and cool and the wind blew Softley from the South East then has fell Some where South west a heavey rain as it has been turning in the most of the fore noon in that direction and heavey clouds in that direction by passed of with raining at Joshua to day as it is Some what neaded to Settley the Sand as it is getting quite dusty when the wind is high, blowing in Evry direction. now as it has Settled down and no prospect for rain to we will eat our evenin meal as a bout all the people of the house wants to go to church to night we will now eat our Evening meal and give all that wants to go to church to nigh a opportunity to go So all went but Willey Frownfelter my wife and the writer we remained at home to keep house and when it come time to retire too our bed or repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night WE Costley at G W and - Mr- M.V. Monday October the 12th AD 1914- Opened up quite a rough cloudey morning as it is a raining from the South west with heavey thunder and lightning in the South west began to rain this morning between midnight and broke of day this morning and rained a nice Shower making things much pleasanter than it were for the last few days wind from the South east was blowing Strong in the earley part of the morning but went down with the rain Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 66 Degrees tempature. The familey all a rose Some what late this morning but M.V. Frownfelter is sick this morning she failed to get up and is still in bed Sick with Sick headache this morning and when the rest of the familey was prepared for labor they went to work and prepared the morning meal and after getting Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal. and after all were through and the table and contents cared far then as it was too wet for out door work we could do nothing more than too remain in doors out of the wet onley the woman could do there indoors work and as to M V Frownfelter She is but a little better at this writing being nine oclock a m to day and at or near Eleven oclock in the fore noon of to day i left off writing then walked up in too Joshua to mail a letter and after mailing of the Same i walked in too the Kelley and Brothers Store to See what i could See and come across old man Warren and had a long talk with him and from that Store i walked down near the Depot ground and when i got too the place i passed on the Rail Road track write by the depot and ontoo the Section camp being a box car they were eating there dinner i Santered off from camp and walked down on them come on home as it were twelve oclock noon in the day after arriving at home we eat our noon meal and when all were through and the table cared far all the familey that was able to Eat taken a rest for Some bit none engage in there needle work whilst the writer was buisey finsing (finishing) recording the labors done on the premises to day and the report of the Sick woman She is much better by this time and will soon be on foot again as she is never down at or near three oclock this evening it began to turn much cooler as the wind is blowing direct from the north and Should it turn much colder the best of them will nead fire i can tell it is very near that way at this writing and Seems to be growing colder all the while. and the clouds and heavey and low as though it would be cold Shure enough. now the day is about past and gone and the evening Shade appears So we will wind up by eating our evening meal and after the Suppertable and contents are cared far we will take our usual rest then depart too our bed to Sleep hoping to get a good nights rest too nigh is the prayer and desire of the writer and familey too night. Tuesday October the 13th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cold morning bright and clear wind from the North blowing very cool thermometer or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 56 Degrees tempa The familey a rose Some what late this morning but after being prepared for work the woman went to work and prepared for work and Served the morning meal and when Served and placed on the breakfast table the familey Seated them Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of the morning meal and when through and the breakfast and contents cared far we Still had too remain indoors as it were too cool to be out of doors at work, So we still had too remain indoors as it were too cool to be out of doors at work, So we Spent the most of the day in doors by a warm fire untill we eat our noon meal from which young George Frownfelter and the writer walked up too the black Smith in Joshua and ground his ax and after getting through we returned home then young George had to go over too his neighbors for Some cause i know not what and the writer cut a fire of wood and built a fire in the Stove as it was cool to Sit in the room with out fire in the room, So when getting of it started up i then Seated my Self down by my writing table, and recorded the action of the familey to day, as we have not done a great deal no way onley the woman folks they have buisey all day with there Needle work and preparing the meals vituals for the familey Now as too the weather in the fore noon of to day it was bright clear and Since noon it has become quite cool and cloudey the clouds just Soled all over the Elements and bids to continue cold for a bit from the movements of the elements at a late hour to day after doing up the Eveven Schores were done up and we had eat our even meal we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night Now i had left out a part of the evening a musment of the evening of to day Some of the young Ladys of Joshua collected in at Miss Louese Lengs house this evening and past of the time by playing Some beautiful tunes on the Peanno and following the music with Some beautiful Songs all the ladies Sang with a nice clear voice and Sounded like olden days of yours past and gone never to return again but by being reminded of the Same it makes one reflect on the times lost and gone not to return anymore WE Costley and wife M.V. Wednesday october the 14th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey cold morning wind from the North blowing brisk and cool Thrmometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what earley this morning and after being prepared for work the woman folkes went to work and prepared our morning meal and after being prepared and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through Mrs M.V. Frownfelter prepared her Self for a trip to Brownwood in Brown County Texas So when prepared for the trip William Frownfelter accompanied his mother too the interurban Depot to take her Soot case and She taken the inter urban at the depot at Joshua and run up to Fort worth and there change cars and taken the Frisco Pasenger to Brown wood and William Frownfelter returned back home and prepared him Self and taken the interurban train and run up the Road in direction of Burleson and Fort Worth to pick cotton as he has been picking on that line for Some time going of a morning on the interurban and back the Same evening whilst Louese Leng taken care of morning table and put evry thing in good Shape again Mary Frownfelter was Sick this morning and did not do any thing whilst my wife sit by the fires that the writer made as it was quite cold but never the less the writer kept good fires for the familey now at or near 12 - oclock to day we eat our noon meal and by this time Mary had become much better and eat Some dinner after the familey was through and the table and contents were cared far we then kept our fires up in our Sitting room and kept on taking of our days rest as we old people could do nothing else than to take our rest in our old day as our days work is a bout done but during of the day what little was done through the day by Louese and my Self i then noted it down as she was buisey alday onley what time She was cooking of our meal throug the day working at the needle work and after the day had passed a way and we had eat our three meals to day and done up the night Schores and taken our usual rest we departed to our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of familey W.E.Costley and wife M.V. Thursday October the 15th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey day cool from the North as the wind is from that direction Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 46 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what earley this morning and after being prepared for work Louese Leng and Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed up on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal after getting through and the breakfast table and contents cared far the familey began to Scatter out for work William and Mary Frownfelter went to pick cotton a little ways from home and Louese taken care of the place up too 12- oclock noon today and prepared our noon meal and when through and the dinner table and contents cared far she then prepared her Self to go too Fort Worth too the Stock Show and did go and will return about mid night to night She went in companey with her Sister and Brothernlaw Mr and Mrs William Kelly whilst my wife Mrs M.V.Costley and the writer W.E.C Stayed at home to keep house in the absence of the familey total abcence The writer kept up the fire furnished water for the house and did the feeding of the hogs and other work that was done a bout the place alday long and at night fall Willey and Mary Frownfelter came in from work we then eat our evening meal after i had fed and done up the night Schores after getting through we taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of Slumber hoping to get a pleasant nights rest to nights rest too night is the desire of the familey W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Joshua Texas

Friday October the 16th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool morning Some what cloudey wind from the north blowing quite cool Thermometer at or near Seven Oclock this morning Registered at 50 Degrees tempature with a probability of a cool day a head The familey a rose quite earley this morning and when prepared for work Louese Lend (Leng) and he(r) Sister Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat the familey Seated them Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table cared far and the contents of the Same then William and Mary Frownfelter went to picking Some distance from home and the writer fed the hogs whilst Louese taken care of the bed room and put evry thing about the bed room in good Shape again then the writer wrote a letter too my Son and mailed it too waco to C.C.Costley and after returning i learned from Miss Seals that her father was dead he died at Sananjulo (San Angelo) in Texas and would be burried at the Joshua Cemetery on the 17th day of October 1914 at what hour i have not learned i would suppose not earlier than 12-oclock noon of the day as they will not be able to get the grave dug any Sooner than that time. now as there were not but three of us a bout the place to day we eat a earley noon meal cooked by Louese Leng our grandaughter after eating of the Same and the table cared far by the Same cook and evry thing put away in good Shape Mrs came in on a Short viset and then left for her place of a bode rather on a buisiness viset, then in a Short while Mrs Edna Kelley brought her baby (Keith) over to See the old people, at home but She onley come to bring the baby to Louese to take care of for a while till She could do some work at home as she could not and attend too the Baby and do the work that She wanted to do what ever The writer at the time walked over across the railroad and watered a lot of hogs that William Frownfelter was attending too for one of his neighbors that was a way from home on treatment, now at or near three oclock PM of to day the writer taken a walk up the railroad in too the town of Joshua to See what was going on and when arriving at the place i Seen Some trading going on but few people in town cotton was Selling at $6.25 to Six 65 per hundred Some Articles other wise Selling in Stores but very high did not compare with the article that it were manufactuared from and whilst there i purchased a tablet to write letters in and a lot of Safty pins for the familey and i to use, and after arriving at home i had to go writer had to return write back again to purchas a lamp globe as the familey or other one member had let it fall and brak and could not use the lamp with out a globe So after getting of the glove and returning home with it i then went to work and prepared Some wood too burn in the coal Stove in the bed room and after getting of it cut i then brought some of it in doors to be handy at the Stove when neaded. we then eat our evening meal that Louese Leng had provided for the familey as the children had come in from picking cotton and when through the children prepared them Selves to go too the methodist concert to be given at the colage here in Joshua Texas and did go the larger people had to pay 25 cts and the younger ones have to pay 15 cents cash down before getting in and the writers wife and him Self stayed at home to take care of the place whilst the balance of the familey were a way and after Sitting up our aloted time we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night WE Costley at Mr and Mrs G W Frownfelter in Joshua Johnson county Texas

Saturday October the 17th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool damp morning wind from the South west blowing Strong and cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey arose this morning and when prepared for work Louese and her sister Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared the morning meal for the familey and when Served and placed on the breakfast table then announced readey to be eat we seated ourselves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal but me wife was not feeling well what ever and could not dine hartiley when the familey was through and the table and contents cared far then William Frownfelter taken the interurban train too the cotton patch on its line about five miles too where he picks cotton and the writer walked up too the Depot in Joshua Texas to meet the in coming pasenger train going north baring a corpe a citizen of joshua by the name of Seals who Died at Santangelo Texas a day or So ago and Shiped to Joshua for burrial and the train brought the train this morning and will be burried at 3 - oclock this evening at the cemetery Some too miles North west of Joshua in Johnson County Texas (Caddo Cemetery http://users.htcomp.net/JCGS/Caddo.htm SEALS, Father A. 27 January 1841 / 16 October 1914 ) and after returning home in a Short while i returned back to town for the mail for the familey and too purchase a sack of meal paying 75cts for 35 pounds of meal one Sack of Smoking tobaco and a doxen of Eggs baught from Kelley and Brother i then returned home and went to work and recorded the work that was done by the familey up too 12-oclock noon to day as Louese Leng prepared the noon meal whilst Mary her Sister cleaned off the yard and put it in good shape. and whilst in town i received from the post office a paper sent to me from the city of Waco by my Son E.D.Costley entitled the Times Herald giving all the news up to date we then eat our noon meal and when all were through and the noon table and content cared then Louese Leng and her Sister Mary Frownfelter went too the funeral of Mr Seals at the babtist church and when throught with the Servises they returned home as they were not prepare to go too the grave yard too the burring as it were too far to walk being too far as it were deep Sand the most of the way they could Stand to walk that far and be at the Burying of old man Seals now at or near five oclock M V Frownfelter returned from Brownwood in Brown County Texas She has been out there to take her Husband some clothing as he is road master on the Frisco line from Steavenville to Brady City in the State of Texas city of Brady. now as they all have come in and have prepared the evening meal and we have Eat the same and the evening table and contents cared far and we have taken our usual rest we will depart too our bed of repose hopijn gto get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley at home at MR and Mrs M V. The familey arose Some what earley this morning finding that Mr and Mrs George Frownfelter come in home from Brownwood last night at a late hour G.W. belongs too the Frisco Railroad as road master and his wife went to see him to take him Some clothing and he returned home with her on the last past night and remained all night and returned to his work earley after taking his morning meal at home after the morning meal was eat and the breakfast table and contents cared far then as it were the Sabbath day and a day of rest what was left at taken advantage of it but young George went a Posam hunting and caught too young Posams and after returning home with him killed and skined the Posams for there hides and when through the noon meal was announce ready to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal after all were through and the table and contents cared far we then Still continued our rest for the Sabbath day untill time to do up our evening Schores and when the time come all went to work and Soon accomplished the job then eat our evening meal and when the evening table and contents was accomplished we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest is the wish and desire of the familey to night. Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 62 Degrees tempature, The familey a rose Some what earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the woman went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat the familey Seated their Selves too the table then portaken of there morning meal, when all were through and the table and contents of the Same cared far then the familey went to work again William and Mary Frownfelter went too Picking cotton and M.V.Frownfelter and her daughter Edna Kelley went too the wash to wash the garments and as they taken dinner with Edney Kelley my wife and Louese Leng Steped over too Edna Kellys to take care of the baby and provide the noon meal for both families and the writer furninshed wood to keep fires whilst they were washing and when through i then went to work a mong the blackburries briars to clean and proon them out and put them in fix for growing and hoed up to near 12 - oclock then went over and taken dinner with William Kelly with the balance of the familey after all was through with the familey began to Scatter Some to putting the dinner table and contents in good Shape again whilst William Kelley return too his Store to work and Virginia Frownfelter and Daughter Edna Kelley returned too the washtub to finish washing of there close as it were a regular washday with them and the writer returned back home and went to work to record what had been done by the familey to day and when through i then finished my letter too the Crawford Advance at Crawford Texas and after finishing of the letter i then mailed the Same too the Crawford advance and when through i taken a walk over on the east side of Joshua town and when i had viewed a good portion of the town i then returned back too my daughters home M V Frownfelter Some what tiard from walking through the Sand after arriving at the place i taken a Short rest then departed too my book Seated my Self down at my writing table and finished recording of our days labors as Virginia Frownfelter and Edna Kelly had done a wonderful heavey days washing to day and my has been _? to day and She too is quite tiard by the by and willey and Sis Frownfelter are both tiard for they have been picking cotton alday and they must be tiard for the writer is and has not worked like the balance of the familey Now as the Shores are all done up and we have eat our evening meal and the table and contents of the Same all cared for we will take our usual rest and then depart too our bed of repose hoping too get a good nights rest to nigh of the familey and the writer W.E.Costley at Mr and Mrs G W Frownfelter

Wednesday October the 21st AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey gloomey morning very damp and cool wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning reistered at 64 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for there days labors Virgina Frownfelter and her too daughters Louese Leng and Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared the morning meal for the familey and when Sheved and placed on the table and announced readey too be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and table and contents cared far then the familey went too there regular work William and Mary went to pick cotton again whilst Mrs Frownfelter and her Daughter Louese Leng were left at home to keep the work going alright at home my wife and the writer was not doing much of anything what ever as my wife was a invalid and couldnot work and the writer was not much better but there one thing i could do i could fill and that were eating that i was able to do and i could fill that place finley with out any delay on my part and also do Some writing at intervals along - between meals as it were too damp and cool for my to Stir a round and the Same way with my wife not able to Stir much it Seems as though it would begin to rain at any moment, from the condition of the elements but it does not rain. the atmosphere is very heavey at a earley hour this morning and undoubedley will be a chang in the weather and that before a great while Now Since writing the above i taken a walk up in too Joshua and baught a couple of yards of (at) William Kelley (store) for Mrs M V Frownfelter and when arriving at the Square there were Several bales of five cent cotton in town but not. any Selling at the time i were in the buisiness part of the town i Expect the byers would give much for the cotton as they apear to be tender about bying that is my ideer about it not knowing any thing a bout them dealing what ever Now we have eat our noon meal and have taken a long nap Sitting in my chair and woke up with a cripled neck not being able to hold up my head erect as it Should have done caused my neck to give me much pain from nodding in a chair so the next time that i want to Sleep i had better go to bed and Sleep right. Now in the after noon of to day there was but little done by the writer onley write a letter and take one too the office and mail it for Louese Leng as i was not quite readey to mail the one that i had rote to Mr and Mrs J.M. Thursday October the 22th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey morning with alight rain fell on the last past night wind from South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 66 Degrees tempature the familey a rose Some what late this morning over Slept them Selves this morning but after arising from her bed of repose and getting prepared for work the woman folks went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we all Sit down at our breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the morning table and contents were cared far then the familey went to diferent work about the place Some to exterminating the house flyes from out of the house and others were employed at other work about the premises and the writer to recording the labors done earley in the morning whilst Mary and William went out in the country to picking cotton So that put them all at work for to day and when noon came on we eat our noon meal that was prepared by Mrs MV.Frownfelter and Daughter Louese Leng when through and the table put in good Shap all the familey went to work that is the woman too there needle work and my wife to reading of the news as i obtainined a new paper for her this morning and the writer finished his letter too Mr.and Mrs. J M Costley and mailed it i then remained in town for Some bit listening at the citizens of Joshua discuss the Europien war as they appeared to know a great deal about it untill i become tired of hearing of the war mentioned i then returned home and taken up the late paper and red Something about it my Self. but yet i did not under Stand it thourley also i read about the Germans going to put there woman in battle too defend there country Such a thing never was read of before that i ever heard of but Still Such is the fact i read also fear talked of amond the others and i Expect it is the cast now Mrs M V Frownfelter had Some companey this Evening Mrs Edward of Joshua and her Daughter (&) Mrs Edna Kelley all of Joshua and when night fall came a long we then eat our evening meal as the woman of the house prepared it the Same and after all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey W E Costley and wife Mr MV Costley at GF and Mrs MV Frownfelter in Joshua Texas

Friday October the 23dh AD 1914- Opened up quite a day wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 64 Degrees tempature The familey a rose tolerable earley this morning and when prepared for work the woman went to work and prepared the our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and after the familey were through with the morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far, the familey then went to work at various kind of work William and Mary frownfelter went too the country to pick cotton Virginia Frownfelter the mistress of the house went to work and to making her a new frock and Louese Leng went too her room to practice on her peanno. whilst my wife had to go to bed on the account of the headache and the writer far his part taken a weeding hoe and worked in the black burry patch up to near eleven oclock from i left off for a Short rest as i were not very able to work, then recorded the labor done by the familey up to too oclock then after Mrs M V Frownfelter had prepared the noon meal and placed it on the table we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal, and when through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then went to work again at different kinds of work the balance of the day untill late at evening Mrs Kelley and Sister went a viseting to get a hat trimed whilst the madam of the house prepared the evening meal and the writer went to work in the bryars blackberry vines and hoed Some bit left off at or near Six oclock in the eavening it become quite cloudey and much in appearance of rain and does Seem that it will begin to rain aney minute but Still it does not be gin the work. we had a nother viset here this Evening but did not learn her name at all now the writer taken a nother turn at hoeing in the blackburries and hoed up too near Six oclock this evening then left off work and returned to the house and done up the nights Schores when through and Supper was Served and placed of the table we Seated our Selves too the Supper table then portaken of our evening meal and after all were through and the table and contents were cared far we all taken of our usual rest as we generally do then departed too our bed of repose hoping too get a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife at Mr and Mrs G F Frownfelter at Joshua Texas

(dailey?) occupation Willey Frownfelter taken his usual trip up the interurban road as usual to pock cotton and the rest of the familey remained at home to do the work, about the premisses as the writer went to work and hoed in the black berry patch and hoed up too a bout ten oclock the writer left off work and return home or house and as Mary Frownfelter had just returned from Town with a letter from J.M. Costley and familey also a Crawford News paper So i occupied my time by reading my letter and my paper up till noon and as Mary frownfelter had Served our noon meal and had it placed on the dinner table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then Eat our noon meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far then the familey taken a rest and after resting for a bit then the familey went to work again M V Frownfelter went to work a gain on her new Striped frock that She were making for her Self and my wife to reading of the news and Mary Frownfelter taken care of her dinner table and putting evry thing a way in good Shape a gain and whilst the writer was engaged in recording the labors that was done on the premises to day and at he wind up of our days labors we eat our evening meal and when all were through and the evening table and contents cared far we all taken our usual rest before retiring too our bed or Slumber and yet the clouds represents rain and has all day long but does not fall So this is the end of our labors to day So we will retire too our bed or repose hoping that one and all or our nation and kindred may enjoy a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife Mrs M V Costley at Mr and Mrs. M.V Frownfelters. in the town of Joshua Texas

Sunday October the 25th AD 1914- Opened up quite a misty cloudey morning wind from the north blew up at or near three oclock of the Evening of 24th day of October AD 1914 as yet not So very cold wind Still from the north but now really cold as yet Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 58 Degrees tempature, The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the woman of the place went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat the familey Seated them Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of the morning meal and when through and the table and contents cared for then the young ones of the familey prepared them Selves for Sunday Schools and went to there chose of Sunday School whilst the older ones of the familey remained at home to take care of the place and to provide there food to be eat. at the proper time as it Should be, and when the time come a round to prepare there regular meal those at home went to work and Soon prepared the meal and when the School children come in there meals vituals was Soon placed on the table then announced readey to be eat So the familey Seated them Selves too the dinner table then eat there noon meal and when the familey were through and the table and conts cared far we then taken a rest as it were a rest day of our lord 1914- which was set a part by the higher power a day for that purpose and after resting the entire day and having Mr and Mrs William Kelley and baby and young Mr Jones we made a pleasant day of it although cloudey and cold did not rain to day but had great appearance of it and at a late hour we eat our evening meal and when through and the evenin table and contents cared far then Mrs Virginia Frownfelter and couple of her daughters Miss Louese Leng and Miss Mary Frownfelter went to church to night and the too old people W.E.Costley and wife and young G.W.Frownfelter remained at home and after resting Some bit we departed too our bed or repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the writer and the familey W.E.Costley adn M.V.Cosstley my wife at G.F.and M V Frownfelters Joshua

The familey arose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for buisiness the woman went to work and prepared the morning meal for the familey this morning and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the table and contents cared far the familey then went too there usual work G.W.Frownfelter Started on the interurban Pasenger traine too his cotton patch and landed at the place but had to return back home write a way as he was Sick and Should not have gone for he lay a bed alday yestarday with Sick headache and after getting too where he was going he too Soon found out that he was in no condition to pick cotton and returne home sick and purchased him Some medison to take and now prepared to doctor him Self, the writer went to work and finished the letter to Mr Tom Stirling and wife Annie Stirling of the Crawford country or neighborhood and after getting of it wrote i then taken it and mailed the Same then walked in too Kelley and Brothers Store and purchased a yard of cloth for Louese Leng to baught a yard of cloth to finish her gown that her mother and her Self are making to day Now when the woman prepared our noon meal and placed it on the table and annnounced readey to be eat We Seated our Selves too the table then portake of our noon meal and when all were throug and the dinner table and contents cared far we then had our usual rest then we to work a gain, the writer carried a letter to the post office that She wrote too her Sister in Burleson or rather in Burleson County Texas, and mail it then returned back home and found the woman folks hard at work Sewing on Louese Lengs new frock that they are making for her i then went to work my Self to recording the labor done by the familey to day up too three oclock to day and when through i went to work too chop up Some wood to burn in the heating Stove and when through loaded up the wheel Borrow and drove (?) it too the house to burn, then finished doing up the Schores a round the premises and when then through we eat our evening meal as the cooks had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat when through and the table and contents cared far we taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife M.V.Costley at Mr and Mrs M V. Tuesday October the 27th AD 1914- Opened up quite a bright cold morning wind from the north nearley freezing Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 40 Degrees tempature. The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning on acount of being too cold to rise Earley but after being prepared for buisiness Virginia Frownfelter and daughter Mary Frownfelter went to work then prepared the morning meal for the familey and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when the familey were through and the morning table and contents cared far we then all that is the familey taken a good warm as it were really cold and later up in the day Willey and Mary went to picking cotton Some three quarters of a mile South of there home. a long the Santafe railroad runing South and the writer went to work to record what was done on the morning of the 27th of October AD 1914, and Still the cold goes on although bright and clear as the noon days Sun and Still the good work goes on as though nothing had happened and at or near ten oclock A M to day old Grney Seals come to Spend the day with the familey and spent the day and the writer was buisey all day writing letters too the crawford advance at Crawford Texas and a letter too Miss Ada Costley and her mother and brother and making out my dailey report of what have been done on the premises to day and at or near 8 oclock A M the writer walked up too the Kelly and brothers Store and purchased Some bacon for the use of the familey and when i returned home then Soon had our noon meal Served and place on the table then announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon day meal and after all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then went to work a gain the writer to writing his letters and the woman too there needle work untill a bout too oclock, Pm when the visitor pushed in and remained with the familey untill late in the evening from which they departed too there place of a bode and when the writer finished writing of my letters i then taken them too the office and mailed them then returned too my place of a bode and went to work and prepared wood to burn in the cole Stove for night and morninng and braught it up too the house as it was Some little, distance from the house and when through we then eat our evening meal and when throug and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night WE Costley and wife M.V. Wednesday october the 28th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cold frosty morning wind turned from the North too the South a gain and is quite cold and disagreeable Thermometer at or near Seven oclick this morning registered at or near Seven oclock 40 Degrees tempature The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for buisiness the woman of the house prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal and when through and the table cared far then as it was too cold for too pick cotton the children did not Start to pick cotton untill late up in the day and the balance of the familey just remained indoors and attended too what was to be done in doors which was enough to keeping then buisey all the while but as too the writer he was kept buisey posting up his dailey record recording the transactions of the day of the familey as the are all quite buisey and my wife as she is a invalid She reads the news in the news papers to let the balance know what is going on in the world or they would never now what kind of news that was going on in the world i am hear to tell now at near by half past 12-oclock in the after noon of to day we eat our noon meal, after all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then all of the familey but my wife went to work a gain the woman people went too there Sewing whilst The writer walked up in too Joshua to get one of my eye glass put back in too the frame as it had come out of the frames and after getting of them fixed i then walked intoo the Kelly and Brother Store Seated my self down in a chair and spent some time in reading a news paper published in Fort Worth Texas and after getting through i then returned back too my stopping place and prepared Some wood for the cal Stove and brought it in doors then prepared my Self for my evening meal as it was Served and readey to be eat and when the children returned from work we then Seated our, Selves too the Suppertable then portaken of our evening meal and after all were through and the table and contents of the Same cared far we then taken our usual rest and departed too our bed of repose, hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife M V.Costley. at Mr G F and M V Frownfelters in the Town of Joshua Texas

Thursday October the 29th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cold morning bright and clear wind from the North East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 42 Degrees tempature The familey arose earley this morning and when prepared for work the woman of the place prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat the familey Seated them Selves to the breakfast table then portaken of there morning meal my wife and the writer being the last ones to eat as we were the last ones to a rise from our bed or repose and when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared for then the familey went to buisiness a right a gain Willey and Mary Frownfelter went to picking of cotton and Virginia Frownfelter and daughter Edna Kelley went too the wash tub to wash there clothing for the familey whilst Louese Leng remain in doors to do the house work and prepare the meals vituals for the familey and my wife to look over and care for Edna Kellys baby in her absence at the wash tub and the writer to preparing wood for the wash place and when through the writer walked down too Mr Jones place for a half bushel of Sweet potatoes after getting of the potatoes i then returned home with the Same then went to work to finish recording the labor done up to 12-oclock noon to day from which we all eat our noon meal and when through Louese Leng went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape and the woman went to work again there washing a gain whilst the balance of the familey were all buisey at work at what ever was to be done around the premises that was to be done for a certainty now after Virginia Frownfelter had finished washing there wearing apparel for the week they then went up in to town to transact Some buisiness that had to be done write a way and whilst the writer prepared wood for night and morning and brought it in doors to be handy and when the children returned home from picking cotten we then eat our evening meal and when through and the Supper table and contents cared far we taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the Desire to nigh of the entire familey to night W E Costley at Mr G F and M V Frownfelter Joshua Texas

Friday October the 30th AD 1914- Opened up quite a brisk cool morning hearey frost wind from the South and heavey frost on night of October the 28th the day of October 1914 Thermometer this morning registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey a rose quite earley all too my wife and the writer we were Some what late on the account of age not able to rise earley like young people but as the balance of the familey had eat there morning meal awhen when the old people were prepared to eat there morning meal we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and after we were all through and the breakfast table and content all cared far then all went to there dailey work Willey and his Sister Mary Frownfelter went too the cotton patch to pick cotton to day and Louese Leng went to work to iron the clothes her mother wash the day before and my wife to taken care of her self as she is not able to work and as too the boss all a round Mr M V Frownfelter is cooking her chow chow that she ground up on the last past night and the writer is following Suit recording of the work that each one of the familey do to day and when through i then walked up in too Joshua to get my mail if any for the writer and when i arrived at the office i received a letter from my son C.C.Costley of Waco Texas i then proceeded too the butcher Shop and purchased Some beef for our dinner, and when i returned home Virginia Frownfelter put the meat on to cook and the writer taken a rest then went to work at other work on the place that had to be done and at or near 12- oclock noon to day we eat our noon meal as it were Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and after all were through and the table and contents cared far then all to there work a gain Louese Leng to Ironing and her mother to other work a round the premises and my wife to taken care of her Self as the was unable to work and the writer recording the work that had been done ont he premises to day up to three oclock then assisted William Kelly in digging of his potatoes the writer led the horse whilst William Kelly done the plowing and Louese Leng and Mary Frownfelter and Mrs Edna Kelley picked up the potatoes, and after getting through the writer went to work to prepare fire wood to burn in the Stove for night and morning and brought it in doors to be handy we then eat our evening meal as it was Served and placed on the table readey to be eat after all were through and the table and content cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed to our bed of repos hoping to get a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W E Costley at and wife at Mr and Mrs M V Frownfelters. Saturday October the 31 being the last day of month 1914 Opened up quite a bright clear bright morning wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 54 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for buisiness the woman of the house went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after all the familey were through and the breakfast table and contents was cared far then the familey all went to work a gain, Willey frownfelter went to picking cotton up near Burleson and Louese went to ironing the clothes, and her mother at other work a round the place whilst mary Frownfelter cook a lot of peas for the pigs whilst the writer finished writing Some letters and mailing the letters that i had wrote after getting the through i then returned home then went to work and halfed Soled Louese Leng Shoes for her, we then eat our noon meal as it was Served and placed on the table readey to be eat after all had dined and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest and departed too our work a gain the writer then went to work and put a Sole on one of my Shoes and when through i then walked over a cross the Tail Road at on of Mrs Frownfelter to See them thrash out Goober pease as the had been thrashing all day up to three oclock Pm of to day and calculated to finish the job to day and during the time that i was gone the woman folks Steped over to Edna Kelleys to assist her in prepareing for a play party to night and when i returned home they were all gone and that was the place they were at when i returned I then fix up and went up in town and purchased Some bacon and a package of arbuckle coffee then returned. home and went to work and withe help of William Frownfelter prepared wood to burn in the Stove then brought in doors to be handy to burn and when throug we then eat our evening meal as the woman had come home and prepared the evening meal and when all were through and the evening table and contents cared far the young and old began to gather in at Mrs Frownfelter to go with Daughters too the play near by and when readey all Started out for the amussement at Edney Kelleys and the old folks remained at home to keep house when all were absent and after taking a good rest we then departed too our bed or Repose hoping to get a good nights rest too night is the desire of the writer and familey W.E.Costley adn M V Costley at Mrs and Mr G F Frownfelters Joshua Texas

The familey arose earley this morning and after being prepared for work then went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table , then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the table cared far we fixed up for a Sundays rest but first and formost i walked too the post office to get my mail in order to have Something to read and Louesey will leave for rock creek where She is going to teach a School for Six months to come, begining Monday November the 2th AD 1914- and end April the 2th AD 1915 She will leave for her work this Sabbath evening and the rest of the familey is left at home to look after buisiness. at or near 12-oclock we eat our noon meal prepared by old lady Frownfelter G. Monday November the 2th AD 1914- Opened up quite a dreary morning Smokey and weather representing winter time coming on wind not Stiring earley this morning but when it did come up it Sprang from the Thermometer at or near Seven oclock 54 Degrees tempature this morning The familey a rose earley this morning and when readey for work the woman went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far then all the familey went too there regular work Willey and Mary Frownfelter went to work to picking cotton out near Webber Some five miles from home but goes and comes home on the Interurban train, and the writer taken a brief trip up in too Joshua to mail a letter too Miss Laura Costley at Crawford Texas after mailing of the letter i then walked out on the Rail Road to where the Section hand were at work and remained with then for Some bit then returned too the depot untill the train come down from fort worth Texas from which i returned too the postoffice to See if there were any mail for any of the familey and when opened there were not but just before the arrival of the last mail i taken out a letter for Virginia Frownfelter from her husband G F Frownfelter said letter was from Brownwood Brown county Texas and Virginia Frownfelter was left to do the cooking to day and at tend too the place with the help of her parents W.E.Costley her mother not being able to work what ever and so the day passed a way all the Same as though all were at home as Louese had gone to Rock Creek to teach School Some ten miles North west from Joshua Texas Edna Kelley brought her baby (Keith) over this morning for her Mama to Doctor it for the croop at the Baby was taken of it so they went to Doctoring on it, before it got too big a hold on it and then taken it (Keith) back home and have not heard from it Since can not Say at this time how it is the writer has been fixing to live to day as he baught a cabbage heat (heart?) and a dozen of good eating apples for our dinner So we will try and have a hog killing time to day of it at this writing and a couple of hours it began to become very cloudey as though it was going to be a cange for the clouds are colecting up quite fast and thick and the Sun drawing water and that is good proof of rain Now the writer has been quite buisey this day out i cut up wood the greater part of the evening and all had to take a trip to Town for Some brand for Virginia Frownfelter and then had to go too Mr Jones for Some potatoes So by the by i were quite buisey all through the evening and when through we went to eat our evening meal as Mrs Virginia Frownfelter had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat and after getting through and the table and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E. Tuesday November the 3dh AD 1914- Opened up quite a dark cloudey gloomey morning much in apearance of rain just has the appearance of pooring down rain very Still this morning not a leaf moving it is So calm and Still but when the wind did come up it Sprang from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 62 Degrees tempature The familey a rose quite earley from there bed of repose quite earley this morning and when prepared for work Virginia Frownfelter and daughter Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selve too the breakfast table then eat our morning meal and when throug Willey and Mary Frownfelter then left for the cotton patch Some five miles a way on the interban line to pick cotton to day whilst Mrs M.V.Frownfelter taken care of the breakfast table and put it in good Shape a gain, whilst the writer went to work and recorded the work that was done on the premises up too 8 oclock this morning then walked up to the postoffice for our mail to day and this was the day for a general election all over the state i remained at the polls or near them for some bit before coming home again this is the day to elect the Govener of the State of Texas and that is James Fergerson of Belton Bell County Texas as he is the onley Demacrat that is running for Govenor of the State of Texas. Now after waiting so long i did not go too the postoffice as the mail had not arrived as yet and come home and braught Virginia Frownfelters prize dishes that she had been saving up tickets for ever so long a while. they were getting a long quite low with there election very slow to be a state election as a general rule they vote a heavey vote on that occasion People are too poor and neadey set of people as they do not (have) time to do anything for hard work but it does not seem as though that they care to vote no great deal what ever, now i have taken too trips up in too Joshua in the last hour and a half and have just returned off of my last trip and will probabley have to go a gain Soon. but will have to cut Some wood for fire place first before going to town and did cut but as Edney Kelley had to go too Town She Saved me of a trip So i got out of going but i kept buisey at other work that had to be done on the premises this evening and at or near night fall when the children come in from work we eat our evening meal prepared by Mrs. M.V.Frownfelter and when all were through and the Suppertable and contents cared far we taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night WE Costley and Mrs. M. Wednesday November the 4th AD 1914- Opened up quite a clear cool morning wind not Stiring enough to tell from what direction it will spring it will spring from but when it did come up it Sprang from the thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 66(?) Degrees tempature, The familey arose Some what earley this morning and after being prepared for work Miss mary and Willey prepared the Morning meal as ther mother was on the Sick list this morning and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Self too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast and content cared far then Willey and Mary Frownfelter taken the interurban too the place of picking cotton then went to work picking of the white Staple and the remainder of the familey remained at home to attend too the affares at home and do the work that was to be done a round the place through out the day and Edna Kelly washed to day that is Mrs M.V.Frownfelter Daughter living near by her and the writer had to assist my wife in taken care of Edney Kelley Baby (Keith) whilst She washed her clothing . and after finishing washing then the babys mother attended too her baby her Self, the writer also had to go to town for the mail and a piece of lather Sole one of my Shoes as the top Sole were giving a way and neaded re Soleing and after returning from town part (?) is wen the work began to take care of the Baby whilst the washing was going on and when the i then went to other work Such as putting a half Sole on my write Shoe as i had alreadey put one on my left Shoe too or three days ago and when i had finished that job we eat our noon meal and when through and the dinner table and contents cared far we taken a short rest then went to work a gain Directions in taken medisons if you have a bad cold Grippe or Neuralga Papes cold compound Should be taken as follows A dose evry too hours untill three consecutive dose are taken then it the cold is not broken, and all Grippe misery and nuralga pains relieved, continue to take a dose evry three hours untill the desired results are obtained Papes cold compound 25 cents at any Drug Store Papes Diapepsin fullness in the stomach dispepse or sour Stomache or gas in Stomach and bowels present releaf Dones Kindey pill to correct kidney troubles and there is a Done pergative that goes with the kidney medison all valuable medison at or near 12 - oclock noon to day we eat or noon meal and when through and the table and contents cared far we taken a Short rest then went to work again the woman too there needle work and the writer too prepareing of wood to burn in the coal Stove and work at it all evening often and on but did not get a long very well as i taken a weak Spell and had to rest So often through the evening but prepared at last a very good batch of it by the help of willey Frownfelter as he heart (hurt) his leng (leg) and had to come home quite Soon from work picking cotton on the account of his leg and mary Frownfelter come later on in the evening and after all had returned from work we then eat our evening meal, and when all were through and the Supertable and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed to our bed of repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W E Costley and wife. The familey a rose quite earley this morning and when prepared for work Mrs M V Frownfelter went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through William and Mary Frownfelter left home for the cotton patch Some five miles a way from home but they take the interurban train too the place where then pick cotton and back home on the Same train at night paying 20 cts each for the too rides perday and Mrs Virginia Frownfelter went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain whils the writer was Seated at his writing table recording the labor that was done in the Earley part of the day whilst my wife was looking out for her Self as She too was not able to work Some what a invalid now the writer after recording of the work that was done this morning i then went to work and choped up a lot of wood to burn in the heeting Stove and after chopping for Some bit i walked down too Mrs Jones place Some 400 yards and helped too measure up a couple of bushel of Sweet potatoes for Mrs Virginia Frownfelter that She had purchased from Mrs Jones and paid for them. i then removed back too the place and recorded the above transaction that was just done then went to chopping wood again and choped up to near 12 - oclock then left off work to prepare my Self for my noon meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced, readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest before going to work a gain, but in Stead of going to work we all had to Stay in doors as we had So much companey we could See no chance to leave them So we had to Stay in doors and intertain them the first one to call in was Mr Jones of Joshua and the next one to call was Mrs King Joshua and the next to give us a call was Mr and Mr Howard and 4 of there children and the next call in was Mrs Barret and her too Daughters so that consisted of our evening companey So all had a good time of it all a long the line, and they all had a good old time during the evening and at a bout five oclock P.M. they all left for there place of a bode the familey then went to work and done up the nights Schores then by that time the cotton pickers came in we then Eat our evening meal prepared by Mrs M.V.Frownfelter and when through and the table and content cared far we taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife Mrs M.V. M.V.Frownfelter soon prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the breakfast table then portaken of there morning meal and when all were through then as usual William and Mary Frownfelter went to picking cotton at there regular place of work whilst Virginia Frownfelter taken care of the breakfast table and put evry thing in good Shape a gain then went to other work a bout the premises whilst the writer recorded the morning labor done by the familey and after getting through i then went to work at my wood cutting puting it in Shape to burn in the Stove to warm, by in the bed room and after chopping for Some bit i then come in doors for a rest and rested for Some bit then went to work writing a letter to J B Tolson at Tuscola Texas Talor county and ater getting of it wrote i then eat my diner with the balance of the familey and when all were through Virginia Frownfelter went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain when through and had taken a Short rest then went to work a gain Sewing on her new frock whilst her mother lay down a while to rest as She was Some what feble and did not feel like Sitting up and the writer finished my letter to J B Tolson then taken it too the postoffice and mailed my letter to J B Tolson then returned home and went to work a gain cutting up wood to burn prepareing it Short in order to burn in a coal Stove, and work up till late this evening at in tervals as at or near three oclock PM it began to cloud up in the South and also in the west with heavey lightning in the South East and a light Sprinkle of rain fell at Joshua just enough to keep me from work at intervals but further East i am told there was a heavey rain fell Some five miles North east of Joshua Texas but Some children that goes out evry day from Joshua to pick cotton and they report that they had a big rain where they picked cotton but as the country was thickley settle they got into a hous for a protection from rain and when through raining they taken the car for home and arived all safe and Sound with out getting wet, and after arriving at home we all eat our evening meal as Mrs V F Frownfelter had it Served and placed on the Suppertable readey to be eat and after all were through and the Supper table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quet nights rest to night is the desire of the writer, and familey to night to night W.E.Costley and wif Mrs Mr and G F Frownfelters Joshua

Saturday November the 7th AD 1914- Opened up Some what a gloomey cloudey drearry morning wind domant not at writing from what direction it will Spring from but when it Spring up it come from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclolck this morning Registered at 50 Degrees tempature The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what earley this morning and after getting propared for buisiness Mrs Virginia Frownfelter prepared the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the table cared for then the familey went too different work William Frownfelter to assisting Mrs Jones in getting off on a move too granburrey over on the Brazos River too where her husband is running a gin and is aiming to get off to day as they are heardardley loading to Start on her journey to meet her husband which She aims to do to day if it is possibly So that She can make the trip, whick i am of the opinion that She can all the Same and Mary Frownfelter and her mother are making preperation to go too Cleburn to do Some trading in the Shoe and dry goods investments whilst my wife and the writer remained at home to take care of the place and other matters to See after although a very unfavorable for the buisiness as it has the appearance of pooring down rain and i am of that Soon it Seems from the elements that it could not prevent raining and that Soon, Now Mrs Virginia Frownfelter and her too children left there place for Cleburn at or near ten oclock A M and Mrs M.V. Costley walked over to Mrs Edney Kelleys just a little ways some one hundred yards and spent the day with her and at one Oclock the writer walked over too Mr Kelley and taken dinner with them as my wife was there after getting through and taken a short rest then returned back too Mrs Felter (Frownfelter) for a smoke as i had left my pipe at the place that i Stayed at and after arriving at the place i then got my pipe and tobaco to geather then had a Smoke and when through i taken a trip to Joshua to purchase Soking tobaco and when obtaing of the tabaco i lef for my place of inhabition Now it has been quite a dreary fore noon but it blowed all the clouds a way and turned out to be a nice Sun Shiney evening but has left a few Scatterng clouds drifting a bout in the air Some what cool wind from the South blowing tolerable Strong as well as cool the trains on the Santafe are passing quite frequent and by So doing they must have a great deal of freight to handle first and last now at or near 3 oclock i walked up intoo Joshua and purchased a peck of Irish potatoes and brought them too Mrs virginia Frownfelters to be eat and afte resting for a while i then walked back too town and purchas a Sack of Smoking tobaco and then as it were Sales day i Stood around and watched the manuvers of the trading point and it was centered at Kelley and Brother and after waiting for some time looking at the trade he was bring in and the money that he was taken in i then moved out on the streets to see what was going out of doors the first to be seen was the pitching of a large pressing iron belonging too atarr factory waying a bout seven or 8 pounds and who won the prize i am not able to say as they were stranges to me the race and the next to be done was a mule race and too of the mules made a bad run as the flew the track and left it to the third mule in the race was the won the stake now the next thing to be done was to test the woma in sawing a too inch Scantling (sapling?) intoo in the shortest time being a strange i did know the winer of him as they were all strangers to the writer therefore i could not say after seeing all that was to be seen i then returned home with a dozen of apples to make a apple role dumplings tomorrow if the woman will make them and after arriving at home being late in the evening we eat our Evening meal as it was Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat and after all was through Mrs M.V. Sunday November the 8th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey disagreeable morning wind direct from the north with drops of rain occasionly turning colder evry moment Thermmometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 60 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey for to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table cared far we then a rest as it is the Lords day and a day of rest but Virginia Frownfelter was calculating to go too Brown Wood to day but was too late in meeting the train as it had passed the Station before She arrived at the station before She arrived at the place where She aimed to go a bord of the train and had to return back home, disappointed in her trip too Brown wood this morning but Still aims to go this morning Some time in the day when She can ketch a train at the write time Now it is at or near Eleven oclock A.M. and Still the cold norther is in creasing all along the line and Still favors a bad Spell of weather it promises rain Sleet or Snow before it brakes up To day reminds the writer of a weather for too weeks at a time of rain Sleet or Snow and what has been will be apt to be agian. for there is nothing new under the sun it is just one thing over and over continually over and over again. Monday November the 9th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cold morning heavey frost clear and bright wind from the North very cold untill late in the day Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at -40 Degrees tempature. The familey all too the old folk a rose tolerable earley this morning and when prepared for labor the then went to work and prepared the morning meal the work done by Mr Edna Kelley and Miss Mary Frownfelter and when prepared to eat they Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and after we were the familey through will the morning meal and the table and contents cared far all the familey went to work at there dailey occupation again William Kelly went too work and Mary Frownfelter went to picking cotton whilst Willey Frownfelter and the writer went a hunting we taken the Cleaburn public road and followed it to _? call Buffalo then followed it in the direction north and _? the meandrums of Said Streem passing Several tanks _? Streem untill we come too the Public Road runing _? grenburry on the brazos river we then turned back for our house of a bode ending our hunt at the depot then on down the Santafe to where we now live as Mrs G F Frownfelter live on Said Road on the South End of Joshua So That ended our hunt for to day killing too felarks on our hunt. After arriving at home we then taken a rest then Willey Frownfelter taken up his Indian Story book and went to reading of it and the writer went to work to record our hunt and the labors done by the familey as my wife done the principal part of looking after Mrs Edna Kelleys baby (Keith) while She was providing noon meal and when Served and place on the table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal then all taken a rest for a Short rest and went to work again The writer then walked up too the postoffice to See if there were any mail for the familey and to look after Some caugh medison for my wife after arriving at the post office i Soon found out that there was no mail but i got the medison and here is what it is called Dr Belding Six Prairrie Herbs The purley vegetable Expetorant Demulcent Generas System Tonic and after returning i then Sit the above down in order that if it done my wife any good that we would Knonw wher to get more Should we nead it Now at or near three oclock P.M. Tuesday November the 10th AD 1914- Opened up quite a dark cloudey gloomey looking morning wind blowing quite cool from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at or near Seven oclock registered at or near Seven oclock Registered at 46 Degrees tempature. The familey arose earley this morning as William Kelley baby was Sick alnight and it kept apart of the familey up a bout alnight but the woman went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning and after all were through and the breakfast table and contents and after arriving at the place the man that had the cotton to pick discharged all his hiard help and aimed to pick the remainder of the cotton him Self, so he had to return home empty handed all the Same. as Mary Frownfelter did not go on account of her Sisters Baby being Sick Stayed at home and at or near nine oclock a m to day Doctor Towns come to See Mr and mrs William Kelley Baby as it was sick and treated with medison and then returned too his place of a bode and the baby appearantley got better and taken a nap and Slept a good long nap and wake up appearantley better for a bit and then become restless a gain and continued So for ever so Long a time and then become Some easer again we then eat our noon meal prepared by Miss Mary Frownfelter prepared The noon meal and when Served and placed on the table we then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table cared far we then taken a Short rest as much as possible for a Sick child as Mr and Mrs William Kelley baby was Sick and very restless and trouble som to attend too and when the day had passed a way we eat our evening meal prepared for the familey and when through and table and contents cared far we then occupied our time in taken care of the baby and as it grew tater William Kelley went after the Doctor for his baby as it had got worse and grew worse untill the Doctor come to see him and gave him Some medison for his releaf the writer then went to bed and were tiard and Sleepy and did go to sleep and Slept well alnigh and got up this morning well rested all the Same but few of the balance of the familey got to go too bed my wife did as She was too old to be up at night and when the Doctor gave the Baby a dose of medison it too went to Sleep and Slept well all night. and gave the balance a good rest, So that about ended our days rest W E Costley and wife a Mr G C and M V Frownfelters in the Town of Joshua Texas

Wednesday Nonvember the 11th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a damp cloudey morning wind from the South East the themometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 62 degrees tempature with a good prospect of falling weather The familey arose bright and earley then went to work and prepared our morning meal as the baby was much better this morning and after prepareing of the morning meal and being placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after all were through and the breakfast and contents of the table cared far we then remained in doors as we could do nothing else but wait on the baby in his condition but after the day began to pass a way the writer accoumpanied Mr William Kelley up to Joshua in his one horse delivery wagon and remained up too 12- oclock then we returned back on the Same conveyance too our dinner and after arriving at home we dismounted from the wagon then returned in doors and as the woman had Served the noon meal and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table then eat our noon meal and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table then eat our noon meal and after getting through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest and then content our Selves in doors attending the Sick Baby and the writer recording the movent of the familey to day and when the day was ended and we had eat our evening meal and the table and contents cared far we then taken a rest for a while as the baby peared to be doing quite well then depared too our bed of repose hoping to receive a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire is the familey to night W E Costley and wife Mrs M V Costley at Mr and Mrs M.V.Frownfelter Joshua Texas

Thursday November the 12th AD 1914- Opened up quite a wet morning as it rained the latter part of to night beng the latter part and is raining at the present time being nine oclock a m of to day and Still going on with the good work as though nothing had happened wind from the South East blowing quite damp thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 64 Degrees tempature. The familey arose some what late this morning as all the familey had a chance to get a good nights rest the last past night as Edna Kelleys Baby rested quite well all night for the first time in a bout 88 hours but willey frownfelter had to be doctored through the night Sore throat and a Smothering and after Doctaring of him he then rested well the balance of the night now the familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning but after being prepared for work Edna Kelley and her Sister Mary Frownfelter went to work and prepared the morning meal and after Serving the Same and plasing on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then contented our Selves by remaining in doors up too 12 or one oclock in the day as it Kept up raining untill half past ten oclock from which the wind Sprung up from the South East and Started the clouds to Scattering and the Sun came out and it become more fairrer as it was dark and gloomey during the rain with heavey thunder in the latter part of the night,but no thunder during the rain after daylight make it appearance but the wind that blew from the South was quite cool and damp, all during the rain, as the north wind was coming back from the South East, and at or near Eleven oclock to day Mrs Edna Kelley went to work to prepareing our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the dinner table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon day meal and after all were through and the table and contents cared far we Still remained in doors for the ground too wet and cold to be out in it So we remain in doors the pirncipal part of to day and Kept our appetites qunched with food So by the by we were better off by So doing but the writer did not feel any better by So doing as i was not well to day all the way through I have cought cold in the last 24 hours. or more and it is making me feel poorley So is my wife She is not feeling her head feeling hot and heart (hurt) her considerable alday. now as we have eat our noon meal and the dinner table and contents cared for we then taken a rest as the weather is Still Severe and after the turn of the day it turned darker and the clouds become dark and thick as though it might rain again all the Same, So as it is we Still have to Stick too the house all the Same, well as usual we are begining to recive female companey again as we have been in the habit of doing for the last month from 8 to ten of them per day and they Still continue to come all the Same. now as the day had ended dark and gloomey with a mist of rain at the wind up and the familey has wound up the evening Schores and have eat ther evening meal prepared by Mrs William Kelley and Miss Mary Frownfelter and the table and contents cared far we will now take a Short rest and if permited by Mrs William Kelleys Baby as it is Sick we will go too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night Mr(s) M V Frownfelter arrived at home at or near Seven oclock this after noon from Brownwood in Brown county Texas W E Costley and wife Mrs M. Friday November the 13th AD 1914- Opened up quite a gloomey day wind from the North Themometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 66 Degrees tempature the familey arose Some What late this morning and the weather not fit for work out doors after getting prepared for work and in readiness the woman went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal and after eating of our morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then went too work on the fashion book to look out the order for Several kinds of Shoes boot socks and Stockings for Willey and Mary Frownfelter and other articles that they neaded in there buisiness. and the other part of the familey to taken care of the Sick Baby that was Sick for a week but appears to be better to day but Still requres a great maney nurses to keep it quet and Some of the croud to prepare the noon meal, and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to eat the familey Seated them Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when were throug and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken up our farmer work that was cared in the fore noon of to day with more help by the old lady Frownfelter it GrandMother returned from Brown Wood on last off of a viset to See her G husband as he works on a nother road to what he worked in farmer days he is road Master on the Frisco rout from Stephenville to the Bradys and he has been out on the road on a viset to See her husband for near a week and has just returned the last past night and makes a good hand at nursing Sick Baby which it has ben first and last very Sick Now Since noon i walked up to Joshua buisiness part of the town to see where the too barber shops burn and a tailer department all connected to geather and corched a nother in all building near by and a telephone pole near by up at the wire of the telephone pole near by up at the wires of the telephone burned about half in too Stood a good chance to burn up but it Shurley burn the too barber Shops too the ground Smooth as could be never left a thing to Show for what was in Side of each one of the dwelling and after viewing of the burn i then returned too Kelley and brothers and purchased a vial of carters ink and then returned to the Drug Store and purchased a box of Dones Pergative pill or rathe the Six urbs purgative pills then returned home and after arriving at home i and went to work and recorded the above and after getting through we then eat our evevening meal prepared by Mrs. M V Frownfelter and daughter Mrs Will Kelly and when through and the table and contents cared we then all taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife at Mr and Mrs G C Frownfelter Joshua Texas

Saturday November the 14th AD 1914- Opened up quite a bright cool morning wind from the Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 52 Degrees tempature. The familey all too my wife arose from there bed of repose Some what Earley this morning and when prepared for work they prepared the morning meal for the familey and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far then all went to work William Kelley went too his Store to work Mirginia too Sewing on the Machine and Mary Frownfelter too nursing of the baby whilst Edna Kelley was taken care of the breakfast table and putting evry thing in good Shape again and Willey frownfelter is buisey at work cleaning up his gun for a bird hunt all the Same, and the writer was buisey recording what was done by the faniley in the earley morning by the familey up to ten oclock today and my wife still has not got up out of her bed of repose as She feels poorley this morning as she did not rest well last night from Some cause i know from what cause unknown too the writer when the morning train arived at Joshua this morning it brought Mrs Annie Stirling and Baby to viset her mother Mrs Virginia Frownfelter She was from Crawford Texas. and just such a jublee they had of it as Miss Louses Leng had just arrived from the county where she is teaching school some ten miles a way from home at Joshua they shurley had a hog killing time of it but we had just killed the hog and about readey to put on to cook for the feast at the noon meal today which put a goodley number of the connection to geather which had not been together in some length of time. and the day passed away with great pleasure and satisfaction to the entire familey and those that viseted the familey through the day and the day ended quiet and peasibly all around a mong them all and after doing up of the nights Schores and portaken of our evening meal and after the evening table and contents were cared far we then taken a Short rest we all departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night- W.E.Costley and wife at Mr and Mrs G C Frownfelters at Joshua Texas

Sunday November the 15th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey dreary morning wind Earley in the morning was from the North west Thermometer at or near 10-oclock to day registered at 52 Degrees tempature. and a tuning colder evry minute apparantley The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what earley this morning and when prepared for work Mrs Frownfelter went to work to prepare the morning meal and after being Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we, Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the table and contents cared far the writer Steped over too William Kelleys a Short distance to See how the baby was getting a long after arriving at the place i found the baby doing very well as it was quiet and appearantley at ease i found grand Ma Kelley with the familey i remained for Some bit then returned home and after arriving at home i then walked up too the drug Store for some qunine and Blue Powers as She is in bed Sick after purchasing of them i the returned home and began to give her the medison that i had just purchased, whilst Miss Mary Frownfelter attended Sunday School and her mother and Mrs Tom Stirling went toowork prepareing the noon meal as she had companey Mrs Seals and daughter and Sun in law and others and when the noon meal was Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when throug and the dinner Table and contents cared far we then taken a nother rest as it was the Sabbath day and a day of rest and after resting a good rest Louese Leng had to go back too her boarding room to be ready to take up her School, in the morning being Monday morning the 16th day of November 1914 and Annie Stirling and Mrs Seals Daughter she married but do not know there marridge name that go by and they annie (&)her take Louese out to cado Peak and ther they aimed to meet Mr Wilson the gentleman that She boards with and then aney and Mrs Seals Daughter returned home, and the balance of the familey remained at home by the fire as it was quite cool wind brisk from the north and good prospect for colder weather went to work and prepared the morning meal, and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then enjoyed the heet of the Stove as it were very cold and not fit weather to be out of doors but Willey frownfelter had to take a hunt around the place for birds too Shour a round the premises for birds as He is a great hunter of birds and rabbits. after breakfast this morning the writer walked a cross a block to See Mrs Edna Kelley and Baby My Grandaughter as her and baby were Sick and the baby has been quite Sick for a week but She taken Sick onley a day or too a go but all apear to be better in evry respect this morning my wife too has been Sick with bad cold and caugh and the writer has nearley been readey to takes the bed on account of bad cold but never have so far but i do not know how soon it may be before i will have to go to bed. i hope not at all if i have my say so about it but one can not have it that way all the time now the day is passing a way fast and Still bright and clear and we have eat our noon meal prepared by Mrs Annie Stirling Mrs M.V.Frownfelter of Crawford Texas (Annie lives in Crawford) and after all were through and the table and contents cared far we then contents cared far we then taken our usual rest as it is too cool to be out in the air out of doors and will Still have to remain in doors as none of the famiey are much well all about down with Lagripp. (Influenza) and has been the case for a bout a week or more. William Frownfelter is out in the woods hunting and has not come in yet do not know what is keeping of them or as i expect he has companey with him. now as the day passed a way the cold northe kept gatting colder and kept it up untill it brought forth ice the following night. and when the day passed a way and we had done up our evening Schores and eat our evenin meal and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest and departed too our bed of repose hoping too enjoy a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife at Mrs G.W.Frownfelter in the Town of Joshua

Tuesday Nonvember the 17th AD 1914- Opened up quite cool morning considerable ice on the last past night Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning at 28 Degrees tempature The familey arose from our bed of repose Some what late this morning but when the woman was prepared for work they then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the morning meal and when all were throught and the breakfast table and contents cared far we all then went to work as uaual a bout that time a tramp come around for his breakfast and we presented him with a ax to chop some wood before eating so he went to work and chopped down a tree in the edge of the garden and after chopping one stick choped off claimed his morning meal and after getting of it he moved on too his journeys end and the writer walked up too the Depot to take a letter to Send off by mail as they had taken the mail Bag too the depot after presenting the letter too the agent i then walked up to Kelleys and Brothers Store for a Sack of tobaco then after getting of it i taken a warm and returned home and found the tramp gone and willey Frownfelter cutting in the tramps place and when i entered the dwelling the woman had made quite a change they had moved the bed that my wife and the writer slept on and replaced a wooden bed in the place of the bed we slept on being a iron bed and placed them both in the same room and Annie Stirling was at work cutting and making her a new frock to weare and the writer seated himself in front of the stove by my writing table and recorded the work done by the familey up too eleven Oclock a m from which a part of them lef off the work that they were at and went to work to prepareing our noon meal for today and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves down at the dinner table then portake of our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents all cared far then the woman went too there needle work again and the writer Seated him Self by the fire and after getting warm i then taken a walk up too the depot in Search of a pipe that i lost when i went to mail my letter this morning at the depot but after returning from hunting of my pipe i found it in my side pocket and in my over coat but William Kelley gave me abrand new cob pipe after taking a hunt for it and whilst i was out on the surch for the pipe the fone men put in a fone in Mrs M V Frownfelters house So She could send and receive the news now the day has past and gone and we have one more patient in the hospittle just taken sick Miss Irene (Aleene) Stirling age some too years She has the Lagripp (Influenza) now as the day has past and gone and all the night Schored done up and we have eat our evening meal and also the Evening Suppertable and contents cared far now we will take our usual rest and depart too our bed of repose hoping to get a comfortable ing to get a good nights rest to nights rest well is the desire of the familey W.E.Costley and wife at Mr and Mrs G C Frownfelter at Joshua Texas

Wednesday November the 18th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudey dreary morning wind cold from the South disagreeable almost as disagreeable as a norther would be and equally as cold wind very penatrating Thermometer at or near Seven oclock AM 1914- Registered at 34 Degrees tempature. The familey a rose Some what late this morning - but after arising from our bed of repose the woman went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to eat we Seated our Selves to the table then eat our morning meal and when all were through with the morning meal and the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape then the familey went to different occupation Some eating pecons and the child to crying Some taking medison Some mailing back orders and my wife in the bed not feeling very well and the writer recording the buisiness going on at the premises this morning and Still fowl weather going on at ten A M of to day at or near 12- oclock noon to day we eat our noon meal prepared by Mary Virginia Frownfelter prepared our noon meal and when Served and placed on the table the announce readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then went to work a gain at Such work as had to be done annie Stirling and her baby were in bed So were my wife as all three went Sick with Severe colds as well as the writer he is not feelin very well him Self he too has a bad cold and caugh So the principal work that was done this evening were to wait on the Sick with the Exception of willey Frownfelter he too cut up fire wood for the Stove to burn in our bedroom as it was quite cool this evening and when the time come a round to prepare the Evening meal Virginia Frownfelter, prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a good long rest then departed too our bed of repose after annie Stirling gave her baby a good Spanking for not obeying her demand we then retured to bed hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W.E.Costley and wife M.V.Costley at Mr and Mrs G C Frownfelters Joshua Texas

Thursday November the 19th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cool morning pirfectley wind from the west but in a Short time changed too the north and was quite cool but bright and cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 36 Degrees tempature with a prospect of a cool bright day a head The familey a rose from there bed of Slumber Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work then virginia Frownfelter prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seat our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then went to work at other buisiness the writer walked up to the depot to mail a letter too Crawford to C. J. Cranfill and about the time i had mailed it Willey Frownfelter brought me a letter from the postoffice from Mrs. Mattie Costley of Hamelton county Texas i then returned home then went to work and recorded the work and recorded the work that was done on the premises up to Eleven oclock in the fore noon of too day and Virginia Frownfelter prepared our noon day meals vituals and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far then the noon an went to work at there nedel work a gain whilst the writer taken a rest and after resting for a while i too went to work and assisted Willey Frownfelter in choping wood to burn in our bed room and geting of it cut up i then brought in the to have it handy after getting through i returned in doors to take a rest and at that time Mrs Kelley come to see the Sick and when She lef for her place her grandaughter Miss Wilson came in to See the Sick and during the time the man that Broke William Kelleys ground broke up a piece of ground for Virginia Frownfelter to plant onions on and after getting through the writer paid him what he charged for the work 20 cts for braking a piece of land for Virginia Frownfelter and her Son Willey Frownfelter taken a trip to Cleburn this after noon to do Some Shoping as Willey had to by him Some Clothes for the winter as he had not layed in his winter Soot and his mother and Willey returned home at or near Six oclock PM of to day. after arriving at home Mrs Frownfelter prepared the Evening meal whilst the balance of the familey that was able done up the night Schores about the place and after getting through we then eat our evening meal as it was Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W E Costley at home in the Town of Joshua Texas

Saturday November the 21st AD 1914- Opened up quite a bright cool morning wind from the South east Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 44 Degrees temparture The familey arose quite earley this morning and when readey for buisiness Mrs Virginai Frownfelter went to work prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and after all were through and the table & contents cared far all went to different work, Some to cleaning up of the we and Siss and Billey (Willey?) Frownfelter kept buisey going to town after articles used at the house and some cooking the noon meal and the writer was called to get the doctor and called Dr. Towns in to See my wife M.V. Costley as she was sick in bed so the writer had to go up in town and get some medison that was precribed for my wife to take and pay the bill for his viset and medison i paid for. the Doctor viset $150 one dollar and fifty cents and one dollar for the medison i then returned home then Virginia Frownfelter began to give the medison write away and my wife apparantley began to get better of her ailding as she had been suffering agood deal for a few days past but i am in hopes the turn will be for the better. as she has been suffering So long Now at or near 12- oclock noon to day we eat our noon meal and when all were through and the dinner table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest and then annie Stirling and Edney Kelley viseted Mrs McMellon on the East Side of town and was out the greater part of the evening and during there absence we had a great deal of companey during the Eavening Old lady Anderson and Mrs McKee the Justice of the peace wife also Miss wilson and several others that i can not call to bare, and when all had left for there place of a bode, Then Virginia Frownfelter prepared our evening meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our Evening meal when through and the table and contents cared far Virginia Frownfelter walked over to her Daughters Edna Kelley about one hundred yards to be with them as annie Stirling was visiting the familey from Crawford Texas. and after remaining for Some bit She returned home, She left my wife and Willey Frownfelter and the wirter at home to take care of the place and when She returned home we was doing quite well and we Still continued our rest for Some bit then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night WE Costley and wife at Mr and Mrs G C Frownfelter at Joshua Texas

Sunday November the 22th AD 1914- Opened up quite a clear day morning wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock register at 44 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and went to work and prepared our morning meal and but few to eat it this morning as annie Stirling and Mary Frownfelter Stayed with there Sister last night, and Willey Frownfelter Started too Brownwood on the interurban train north to Fort worth and from tha tpoint he will take the Frisco out to Brownwood in brown County Texas Some one hundred and fifty too miles from Joshua by rail road he Started quite earley this and left home before the writer a rose from his bed of repose and after getting through dressing of my Self i then ground and put the coffee to boil as the cook was up Soon to get her boy all to go too the train as he was going to Brownwood to See his Parent as he is road Master on the Frisco Railroad from Stephenvill to Brady city South west from Joshua and the cook was trying to take a morning nap as She was not feelng very vell that is why i put the coffee to make but the cook Soon a rose a gain and finished our morning meal, and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when the breakfast table and contents cared far we then taken a rest far Some bit then began to Stir a round for exercise The writer for Some little distance then i traveled East too the Railroad then taken the Rail road going north too the point that i Started from at Joshua Tex the trip that i taken was to give the writer exercise as i had been Sitting a round So much i just had it to do for health and when i returned back home the woman was exercising them Selves in prepareing of the noon meals vituals and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when the familey were through with there noon meal and the dinner table cared far and contents then it was that Edna Kelley and husband William Kelley also annie Stirling and baby and Mary Frownfelter walked over too the East Side of Joshua to pay too Mr and Mrs Barret and familey a viset this Sabbath evening as they are porticular firends and have been for maney years past and as my wife was Sick in bed I and Virginia Frownfelter our Daughter remained at home with the Sick and waited on her inn her afflication and when the visetors returned home all went to work and done up the Schores about the premises then the woman propared the Evening meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our Evening meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken our rest then departed too our bed of rest hoping to get a good nights rest to night So the desire or the writer and familey to night WE Costley and wife at G C and MV Frownfelters at Joshua Texas top of page "Baret Hunsey"

Monday November the 23dh AD 1914- Opened day wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 64 Degrees temparure The familey all too the old people a rose from there bed of repose Some what earley this morning and after being prepare for work the woman went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey for to be eat the familey Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the table and contents cared for then the familey then went too there different work the writer for first work to do was to go to the postoffice and purchas a lot of too cent Stamps and Stamp a letter to Annie Stirling husband Tom Stirling then taken the letter too the depot and mailed the letter to Tom Stirling at Crawford at Crawford Texas i then wwalked up in to town to await for the mail to be opened when it come and after being opened i obtained what mail that belong too the familey and then returned home with the Same i then taken a Short rest the then went to work and made a record of what has been done on the place in the fore noon of to day Annie Stirling went to work to make a frock for her little girl whilst Mary Frownfelter made several trips up in to town for several articles that was neaded about the premises.which was near 12- oclock noon, and Mrs Mary Virginia Frownfelter prepared the noon meal for the familey and after getting of the noon meal, Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and after getting through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then went to work at there Sewing and other work to be done a bout the house and the writer was buisiley engaged at writing keeping in pace the weather and labor as it goes on through the day as the after noon of to day is growning quite cloudey as though there would be a change in the weather and that Soon. at or near to oclock the writer walked up in too Town to get Something for my wife to eat as She was Sick and has been for Several days and when i returned home i then taken up a Texas history of Texas to read but could not read long at a time with out going to sleep in my chair and kept up trying to sleep until i got my nap out i then to work to give the account of the day in the after noon of to day by the familey and the writer as the woman was buisiley engaged Sewing on garments for the familey and besides the they had old lady Seals and Daughter viset them this evening and left for there place of abode at or near five oclock this evening then the familey went to work to do up the nights Schores and then prepare our Evening meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we seated our Selves too the Suppertable then portaken of our evening meal and when through and the evening table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W.E.Costley and wife M.V. Tuesday November the 24th AD 1914- Opened up quite a wind from the South East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 50 Degrees tempature The familey arose quite Earley this morning after getting prepared for work the woman folks went to work and prepared the morning meal, and when Served and placed on the table, announced readey to be eat we Seated our Seles too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents all cared far then the familey all went to work at there dailey labors as usual my wife this morning appears to be Some what unfavorable weather as a very nice rein fell last night and the Sand appears to be wet and cold under foot but onley damp over hed as it is very cloudey and the clouds are thick and heavey as though it might rain a gain to day So far this is not a fit day for work out doors too damp but not So cold, now after breakfast was over with Mary Frownfelter walked over to Old Lady Seals to assist Annie Sterling back home with her baby as Annie Sterling stayed alnight with the old Lady Seals on the last past night and returned back home having a nice time with her old neighbor The writer walked over to William Kelleys to see how all was getting along after arriving at the place being not far away i found them all well and the baby about a sleep but soon waked up after i entered the house and was readey for fun, after remaining for a bit i then returned home to see how my wife was getting along as she is now Sick and has been for Some time but appears to be a great deal better this morning after so long a spell as to Virginia Frownfelter after She got through with her Kitchen work She then went to work at her domestic work in the house, So on too the weather we contented our Selves in doors to day on account of the weather and Still no better at or near too oclock this after noon of to day and a bout that time Mrs Gentry came to see the familey living about one mile west of Joshua uppearantley a very sociable woman and good companey with her sick and all others in a crciable (?) way and woman about 35 years of age Now Since our noon meal the young Lady Miss Mary Frownfelter went to work with the help of Miss Eleen (Aleene) Sterling Soon put the table and contents all in good shape again and Still the muckey weather goes on but no more rain falling So far up in the day now the day has passed and gone and the Even Shades appear and night Schores are all done up and we have portaken of our Evening meal prepared by Mrs M V Frownfelter and when through with the Evening meal and the contents and Suppertable all cared far we then taken a rest for a bit then Mary Frownfelter went to work and poped a lot of Pop corn whilst her mother were sewing on her a garment to ware in shape of a sack coat and the writer has engaged in finisheing recording of our days labors and when throug being Some what late at night we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley and wife M V Costley at Mr and Mrs Frownfelter Joshua Texas

Wednesday November the 25th AD 1914- Opened up quite a cloudy damp day wind from the North East Thermometer at or near seven oclock A m of to day Registered at 50 Degrees temparure The famil arose from there bed of repose and after getting prepared for work then prepared the morning meal and after getting prepared for work then prepared the morning meal and after getting of it announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far then the familey all too my wife went at there dailey ocupation crotheting and Some of them making new gowns for the familey whilst the writer walked across the way to See how Edna Kelleys baby was this morning as it were Sick on the last past night but was better this morning doing very well this morning but its spells comes and goes and after remaining for a while Annie Sterling returned back too her mothers but a little ways to go and when i returned home my wife reported that she come very near fainting while out of the bed as She was very weak from a spell of sickness she has just gone through with all the family appears to be some better this morning although it is quite damp and unpleasant weather the colds and caughs that is going through the country is hard to handle they are better one day and worse the next Now our noon meal prepared by Mrs M.V. Frownfelter is eat and the noon table and co tents cared far we then taken a Short rest then went to work a gain, Virginia Frownfelter went to work at making a garment for her daughter Mary Frownfelter and annie Stirling M.V. Frownfelter daughter is making or rather knitting Some kind of ornament not knowing what its is i am not able to Say and the writer went to work to finish a letter, that i had Started to write too C.C.Costley at Waco Texas and kept writing untill i finished writing the letter i then went to work and recorded the work done by the familey today. up to about three oclock this evening i then taken a walked across the street to talk too old man Kellor and remaining at his house a bout one half hour i then returned home and done up the night Schores and when through Mrs. M.V.Frownfelter had the evening meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when all were through and the Suptable and content cared for we then taken a rest for Some bit then had annie Sterling to Sing some beautiful Songs for the old people. and that was good. and when through and we taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest is the desire of the familey and writer to night. Thursday November the 26th day of the month and set a part by President Wilson as a thanks giving for pray and suppication too the Lord for his mercies and abundance of evry to eat that any one should wish far and by the majority of the generation of people on earth have been blest with very good health and all so have spared a great maney of those that are a flicted to continue to live and to be blessed with abundance whilst hear on earth. There fore we thank the Lord for his great effort in preserving us up too the present day and our prayer is to day to the Lord. That when done with us on this lonley earth to hand us down too our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man kind and in heaven Save us is our prayer to day Amen.The 26th day opened up quite a cloudey rainey morning as it began to rain Some time in the last past night and is Still raining this morning up to nine oclock a m and no sign in Sight for it to cease as the clouds are heavey and low and the wind from the East blowing Strong and cool from that direction. Thermometer at or near nine olcock this morning registered at 48 Degrees tempature, The familey arose some what late this morning and after being prepared for work the woman went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat the familey Seated our Selves to the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far then the woman proceeded too there domestic work again making garments for the familey that is Mrs Virginia Frownfelter is doing the Sewing on a Sewing machine and annie is crotcheting a piece of work and my wife still in the bed sick and Mary Frownfelter is still working at her Dolls apparrel and the writer is recording the work done on thanks giving day whilst Arlene Sterling is playing around with her pay purties as any small child would when a mere infant and to G C Frownfelter and Son Willey Frownfelter members of the familey are out on the Frisco Railroad Running from Fort Worth to Brownwood and to Brady city as G C is Road Master on that division and his Son is out there on a viset to See his parents for few days on a viset, and will Soon return home and Still the rain continues to fall from the East. and has kept it up alday. and Still raining from the Same direction now we have just eat too meals this thanks giving day and we fell thankful to the Lord to be able to eat them and for spareing our live so long hoping that there will be a better feeling among our people and each nation will burry the hatchet and make plow sheares out of there swards and other impliment in what ever be a blessing to man kind and to bring peace and quiet to each and evry mans door under the sun and for ever remain in that condition too the end of time, then it would that life would be worth living far not envy and strife then they would be like brothers and sisters. Friday November the 27th AD 1914-Opened up quite a gloomey wet cool morning as it has been raining a Slow dripping rain forty hours past and Still raining on wind from the north growing colder all the time, and Still rains as ever, Thermometer at or near 8- oclock this morning Registered at 48 Degrees temparture The familey arose tolerable earley this morning. and after getting prepared for buisiness Mary Virgi Frownfelter and her daughter Mary Frownfelter went to work then prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced reade to be eat we Seated our Selves to the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far then the woman went to work at Servin on garments for the familey and Mary Frownfelter was at work at a cap that is worn on the head and the writer was buisey reading of letter that we received from our children this morning too from E D Costley and Mrs. J. M. Thermometer this morning Registered at 44 Degrees tempature with a prospect of a continuation of fowl weather from the north The familey arose Some what late this morning from there Sleepless bed of repose and after getting prepared for work Mrs M V Frownfelter and daughter Mrs annie Stirling and Miss Mary Frownfelter went to work then prepared her morning meal, and when served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our selves to the table then portaken of there morning meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far then the woman went to work too making there children Some new frock to ware in the winter and the writer to recording of the labors as they are done on the premises to day by the familey and other happening Now the writer backed a letter and had it mailed this morning by Mary Frownfelter to Ed Costley at Waco Texas at five minutes of Eleven oclock to day November the 28th AD 1914 young Mrs. Seal viseted Mrs. Mary Virginia Frownfelter of Joshua Johnson county Texas now we had our noon meal and all over with and when the woman was Settled down to work and was buisiley engaged at there Sewing and making of garments for the famileies Mrs Allen of Joshua paid Mrs Frownfelter and familey Short viset and left for her place of abode but Mrs Seals Spent the most of the day with the familey. and then departed for her place of a bode then the familey done up there nights Schores and eat there evening meal and after getting through and the Supper table and contents cared far they then went to work at there Sewing up to nine oclock at night then lay ther work too one side and departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey WE Costley and M.V.Costley the wife of W.E.at G.C.& M.V. Sunday November the 29th AD 1914- Opened up quite a nice bright Sun Shining morning wind from the south Some few calcarious clouds floating a bout in the elements Thermometer at or near 8-oclock this morning registered at 48 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work Mrs Virginis Frownfelter and daughter went to work andprepared the morning meal and when Served and plaed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves toot he table then portaken of our morning meal and when the familey was through with there morning meal and the breakfast table and contents cared far then Mary Frownfelter and Willey prepared them Selves for Sunday School and Willey Frownfelter went by the postoffice and mailed a couple of letter for the familey one for his nother and the othere one was for his mother and the writer as we had wrote a copartner Ship letter too Mr J M Costley and wife in Hamelton County Texas Energy being there postoffice in Comanchey County Texas. Some three miles a way from there residence in Hamelton County just across the line of Hamelton from Comanche county line.now at or near one oclock to day we eat or noon meal prepared by Mrs M V Frownfelter and her too daughters Mrs Annie Sterling and Mrs Edna Kelley as they taken diner with there mother to day and when Served and placed on the table the announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and when through and the table and content cared far the familey taken a leasure rest as it were the Sabbath day and a day for all Such buisiness untill late in the Evening annie Sterling and Edney Kelley was prepareing to go a viseting but Mrs Wilson come over to see the familey and that prevented Edney Kelley from going with anney Stirling aviseting So annie Stirling had to go all a lone a viseting to See old lady Seals and when She returned they went to work to prepare the evening meal and when Served and placed on the table and then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when the familey was through with there evening meal and the table and contents cared far then part of the familey taken a rest whilst Mr William Kelley and wife and Mrs Annie Stirling also Miss Mary and William Frownfelter went to meeting to night and Mrs Edna Kelley left her Baby with her mother to care for whilst they returned from church which they did at or near nine oclock a m of to night and when they returned from church we then all departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W E Costley and wife M V Costley at Mr. G.C.and M.V.Frownfelters JoshuaTexas

Monday November the 29th AD 1914- Opened up quite a desolate looking morning very foggy and damp and dreary much in apearance of rain very dark morning wind from the Thermometer at or near Seven oclock at or near Seven oclock registered at 46 Degrees tempature The familey arose quite earley this morning in order to get the children of to (S)chool as the free School Started this morning being the 30th day of November AD, 1914 and when the woman become prepared for work they then began to prepare the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat the familey all to my wife Seated them Selves to the table then portaken of there morning meal and my wife eat her morning meal in front of the fire in the Stove and when all were well, through and the table and contents cared far then the children that is William and Mary Frownfelter a Started to School and the woman went to there dailey work Sewing crotcheting with there needle work whilst the writer we engaged in recording the labor done on the premises this morning up too ten minutes past nine oclock am of to day and Still the Severe wether goes on now at or near one oclock to day we eat our noon meal having a good mess of Turmups for our noon meal, cooked by Mrs M V Frownfelter my youngest daughter and when the noon meal was Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the noon table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest and about the time that we had accoumplished our rest Mrs McMillon the Bankers wife paid Mrs MV Frownfelter and familey a viset this Evening being the last day of November 1914- and during of this time William Frownfelter walked up in to Joshua and purchased for W.E.Costley Some writing pens also writing paper and a Sack of Smoking Tobaco, and in picking out the writing pen he layed the paper down on the Show cast and come off and forgot it and had to go back too Town for the paper making too tripps for the Same thing but got them all the Same Edna and her sister a Annie Sterling a trip down to Clebern this evening on the interuban train and returned at or near half past fore oclock PM of to day or near evening tide and during the time they were gone we had Several visitors old Lady Baret and her too Daughters and old Lady Kelley and after they left for there place of a bod there was nother lady come in the Banders wife Mrs Mcmilon and also Mrs Kelley J.r. Tuesday December the 1st AD 1914- Opened up quite a rainey cloudey morning wind from the Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 46 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what earley this morning and hearidley (hurriedly) prepared the morning meal as annie Stirling is aiming to go home this morning if no hendred by no accident and did go but after getting of the morning prepared and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all went through and the table and contents was cared for then the work began to get annie Sterling off on the train as it come So earley this morning and She just got too the train in time to Save a good wetting as it rained a hard rain just after getting too the depot but She got off alright it just remaining all right and She though that She would not get to go home but as luck would have it She did all hated to See her go but as a rule She has to go home too her work as usual to cook and keep house for her man that She has on hand Well it Still continued to rain write down up to half past Eleven oclock and then Slact up too a Slower rate but did not finally check raining untill at or near to day, and at or near one oclock P.M. of to day we eat our noon meal as Mrs Virginia Frownfelter had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and when through and the table and contents were cared far we then Still remained in doors as it was too wet to be out doors as it has rained great deal to day but let up at or near one oclock to day then remained thick cloudey the balance of the day with a brigh calcurious Streak of cloucs extending from the South west too the N E. low down in the Elements a narrow Streak. Now as the day has past a way and the Evening Shade has made its appearance and the nights Schores are all completed by William Frownfelter and the evening meal was prepared by Mrs Edney Kelley and assisted by her Sister Miss Mary Frownfelter and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the Suppertable then portaken of our evening and when all were through and the evening table and contents cared far the familey all taken a short rest as Mrs William Kelley and her mother had been worried alday with young Mrs Kelleys baby (Keith) and has been quite sick al day with its bowels as they gave it oil this morning and as it did not act as it should they repeated the dose and still the baby grew much worse and could not sleep for the misery in its bowels So by the by as they had no surenge to give the child an injection. Virginia Frownfelter walked up too the old Lady Kelleys and obtained the old Lady and a Sirange and as soon as they returned with the sirange and gave the child an injection in a few minutes the child was resting quite well and taken a good nap for the first today then when the child become quiet the familey then departed too there bed of repose hoping to get a good nights (sleep) to night W.E.Costley and wife M.V.Costley at Mr G.C. Wednesday the 2th day of November AD 1914- Opened up quite a dreary damp morning misting rain from the North as the wind Earley in the morning was from the north East but Soon turned too the north and become quite cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 50 Degrees tempature but not So dark as it were on yestarday morning. The familey arose quite earley this morning and when prepared for work Mrs Virginia Frownfelter and daughter Mrs William Kelley prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and we all were through and the table and contents cared far then willey and mary Frownfelter went to School whilst the balance of the familey remained at home, and done the work that was to be done about the place and the writer went to work to record what had been done this morning by the familey and about the time i were through the Elements began to light up and give morn light but in no manner like clearing off as the Sun is not near in Sight but the tempature is gradually going down too a lower grade of being colder now we have eat our noon meal prepared by Mrs Virginia Frownfelter and all were through Willey Frownfelter then returned to School a gain as Marry Frownfelter taken her dinner to School with her and did not come home too her dinner, and when all were through and the dinner table cared far then the woman went to Sewing on there dress coats a gain, and onley one at a time could work as Edna Kelley baby was cross and one or the other had it to nurse, and continued So all evening So the too woman it grand mother and mother had a teadious time with it for one or the other of them had it to nurse at any rate now this has been a nother dark drearry day but not so much rain but much cooler as the north wind is blowing to day quite Strong and resembles Snow or Slet after the nite Schores was done up and we had eat our evening meal prepared by Mrs M.V. Thursday December the 3dh AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cold blustry wind from the North with a mist of rain on the last past night Thermometer at or near 8- oclock this morning Registered at 40 Degrees The familey arose earley this morning all too the old peoples they were Some what late this morning as they did not rest well on the last past nig but when the Earliones arose they went to work and prepared the morning meal and when served and placed on the table then those that were earley up portaken of there morning mel and when the old people a rose from there bed of repose and was readey for there meal they eat the Same and when through and the table and contents cared far then William Kelley went too his Store to work and william Frownfelter and his guest and Sister Mary Frownfelter went School whilst Mrs M V Frownfelter proceeded too the was(h) tub and washed the cose (clothes) for the familey as cold as it were and Edna Kelley prepared our noon meal and when Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far then william Kelley went back too his Store to work whilst the children went to school gain and the writer too his occupation to making a record of what has been done to day after noon to day it blew of nice and bright pirfectley but a cold wind blew from the north all day and for the last day or too, but all this time there were a great deal of water fell on the earth Swelling of the Streams to a good debth but i am well Satisfied that the rain is over with as there is a hight bright norther blowing to day, Edna Kelleys baby (Keith) is quite cross this evening at or near three oclock to day. But finally got it to sleep and has been resting quite well ever since. Now it is 15 minutes past fore oclock in the after noon of today and school has turned out and the Schollars are all reading there way home having a brigh(?) evening for the buisiness but a very cold one i am satisfied in my own mind that we will have a freeze to night althrough the Thermometer is Standing at 50 Degrees at half past four oclock this Evening and the wind quite cool now as the day has past a way and the evening Shades appeared and the nights Schorse are a bout done up and our evening meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when through and the Suppertable and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nights rest is the well woosh of the familey and the writer W E Costley and wife Mary Virginia Costley at Mr and Mrs G C Frownfelters Joshua Texas

Friday December the 4th AD 1914- Opened up quite a Still cold morning bright and clear wind Still from the north Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 32 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work Mrs. M.V. Frownfelter went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far then Mary and William have gone to school, Virginia is putting her house in order and about that time Edna Kelley come after her mother to help quiet the baby as it become quite unruley. Something got rong with it but did not Stay but a little while as she quieted the baby to sleep directley and returned home and resoomed work again about her house and the writer steped over too her house to still see how it was getting along and when i arrived at the place it ( Keith) still was a sleep and the writer walked up in Town to draw some money out of the bank to get some articles of food and when through i returned back too my daughters Mrs. M.V. Frownfelter and began my work of recording of the work done on the premises up too Eleven oclock A M of to day at or near Eleven oclock of to day Mrs M V Frownfelter went to work to prepare the noon meal for the familey and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon meal and when the familey were through with there noon meal and the dinner table and contents cared far William and Mary Frownfelter returned to school onley in a Short while after eating of there dinner as they wanted to take a play with there play mates as it is custom with all school children in olden days of yours take exercise for about one hour to give them a good appetite for learn or to Study there book for a couple or three hours at a time or more as the usual time of public schools that is use averging six hours per day as the law has directed them to do and no more and the teacher is not going to extend the time matters not what turns up or how much a child likes in getting of his lesson perfect he goes out. Now the Expected look for change of the weather has made its appearance and now the cold weather is getting well developed and properly Set in for the next three months and a half or more untill the change for warmer weather in the Spring of the year 1915 comes in to make it more pleasanter now at or near three oclock this Evening it grew quite cloudey as though it might rain Sleet or Snow quite different to what it were in the first part of the day at a late hour in the day Mrs M V Frownfelter began to prepare our Evening meal on account of being belated by other work that had to be done but when getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when through and the table and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey and writer to night W E Costley and wife M.V. Saturday December the 5th AD 1914- Opened up quite a gloomey morning dark fog mist of rain this morning with a good prospect of a continuation of a fowl Spell of weather wind from the north East Thermometer at or near half past Seven oclock registered at 40 Degrees tempature with a good Showing for a continuation of a Severe Spell of weather the familey withe the Exception of the old people a rose quite Earley this morning and when prepared for work, went to work then prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then eat there morning meal before the old people a rose from here bed of Slumber but after the old people arose from there bed of Slumber and become prepared for there morning meal we then eat the Same and when through they went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain then went too other work a bout the premises such as removing the dining table in too the kitching to be handy to evry thing that put on the table to be used a bout eating of ther meal vituals and putting there beds and bed rooms in good shape a gain whilst the writer recorded the labors of the morning and the writer after being up with the recording of the work i then finished my letter that i began to write too my son E D Costley of waco and a bout that time Virginia Frownfelter began to prepare the noon meal and when served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and about the time we were about half through Willey Frownfelter and his half sister returned from Cleburn Louese Leng then they joined us in our noon meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a rest then Louese Leng and Willey Frownfelter went into Joshua as it was trades day and a big day in town but did not stay no great while before they returned home then the writer went up too the post office to mail my letter to E.D.Costley of Waco and from the office i walked down to the Lumber yard and baught some lime for my wife to use in her drinking water i then returned home i then returned to my work a gain, and finished recording of the Labors of the day and when through we eat our evevening meal and after we were though and the table and contents cared far we then taken our usual rest that is my wife and the writer by Mrs M V Frownfelter and son walked over to Mr Baretts to see a sick baby and Mary Frownfelter and Miss Louese Leng went too a box supper at the colage to be given to night. and at or near Seven oclock to night Virginia Frownfelter and son Willey returned from a viset to see the sick and report the baby no better we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey W E Costley and wife M V Costley at Mr G C and Mrs M V Frownfelter at Joshua Texas

Sunday December the 6th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a dreary cloudey misty morning has the appearance of Severe falling weather wind from the N.E Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 42 Degrees Tempature The Familey arose Some what late this morning but when prepared for work Mrs Virginia Frownfelter and Louese Leng went to work and prepared the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey for to eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken or our morning meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far we then went to work to straten of the house and putting evry thing in good Shape for the day then willey and Sis Frownfelter perpared themselves for Sunday School and did go whilst Louese Leng made preperation and went back to her boarding to be readey for her school Monday morning. whis is to morrow Monday December the 7th 1914 and the old folks remained at home to take care of the place as my wife is Still confined too her bed and after Sunday School was over with the children returned home and Willey Frownfelter went home with one of his School mates and Spent the day with him Whilst Mrs M V. Frownfelter and Louese Leng prepared the noon meal and when prepared and place on the table then announce readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noon meal and when all were through and the table and contents cared far then Louese Leng made preperation and went back too her boarding place Some ten miles North west of Joshua on rock creek in Johnson County Texas to be readey for her School a monday morning and her mother M.V.Frownfelter accompanied Louese Leng up in town to where aim to Start from Mr Mores and Mrs Wilson came down with her last Friday Evening to Joshua, and aim to go back a gain this Evening and after they had gone Mr Strong and Mrs Strong came in and spent the evening withe old folks, at Mrs, M V Frownfelter untill She returned and then Still remained untill late in the Evening from which they left for there place of a bode and at the time they left Mrs Kelley the mother of the Kelley come in to while a way the time with the familey then She too left for her place of a bode Then it was that Mrs M V Frownfelter began too prepare the Evening meal and when Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal and when through and the table and contents cared far, the children then went to work at learning there boos (books) whilst the older people taken a rest all too the writer he went to work to finish recording of the days work and when through we taken a rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to receive a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey and writer W.E.Costley and wife M.V.Costley at Mr and Mrs G C.
