Thursday December the 25 AD 1913 - being Christmas day the day on which our Savior was born and the writer was borned on December the 25th AD 1833 in the State of Texas County of Bastrop the wind this morning was from the north The thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 34 Degrees tempature the familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work i first fed my horse then returned too the house and went to work and with the help of my wife we prepared our Christmas morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same and after getting through the writer then went to work and put the table and content all in good Shape again also the dining and bedroom all in good Shape again then as the wind was blowing Some what cool from the North and also very cold we remained in doors the greater part of the day up till past 12 - Oclock to day from where i walked down to the Depot for a box of Christman presence Edibals that Virginia Frownfelter Sent to the old folk from Joshua Texas and after receiving the box at the Depot i then brought the box home we then had a good dinner of all the Edibles Sent us on Christmas day and when through the writer then put the table and contents all in good Shape then Tom and Annie Stirling left for there place of a bode as Annie Stirling was just from Joshua on a viset to see her people and returned to Crawford to day being the 26th day of December 1913 - dreary weather, but had to come home , and after remaing for Some bit her and her husband Tom Stirling returned too there place of abode as She had been on a viset too her mothers and familey after remaining for a while they left for there place of abode, then the writer went down to Nicols and Companey to get Some lard and coffee and a lot of Coffee and tobaco after obtaining of the Same i returned home with the Same then prepared wood for the fire place in our bedroom and brought it in doors to burn to night and morning we then taken a rest and departed too our bed of repose for our nights rest to nighjt W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas Lum Costley come up from Waco on the Same day i miss Stated the day anne Stirling came home on the 26th day of December 1913 in Stead of the 25th of the present month. now at or near five oclock PM of to day we eat our Noon and evening meal and after we were through and the table cared far we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and familey to night W. Friday December the 26th AD 1913 - Opened up Some what a dark cloudey misty day wind from the NE but not very cold Thermometer at or near Seven oclock A.M. of to day Registered at 28 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what late this mroning but after getting prepared for buisiness the writer then went to work and prepared the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we then portaken of our morning meal and after getting through the writer then went to work and put the table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a good rest as the weather was Some what unsettled and remained by the fire up too about too oclock PM the writer walked down in town to See old man Schoffner about going too the woods for fire wood to burn in our fire place but we both come too the conclusion that the ground was too wet to pull much of a load of wood if we had it cut and we come too the conclusion that it was too wet to undertake it So we come to the conclusion not to undertake it there fore we concluded to not under take the job So i returned home by the way of John B Nichols and Mchaneys(?) Store and purchased a Sack of corn meal. and it was delivered by the companey to my place which was a great help too the old man as he is full of days The writer and his wife went to work and prepared our eveniong meal and when Served and placed on the table we then eat the Same, and after getting through the writer then, put away the vessels that was used in eating of our evening meal all in good Shape we then taken our rest as usual as we had C.C.Costley with the old people ever Since Christmas evening and is Still with us to day being the 27th of the month December 1913 - and will remain with the old people a few more days then will return to Waco again as he lives at that place now as i am about through we will now go too our bed of repose hoping to receive a good nights rest too night is the wish and will of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Saturday December th 27th AD 1013 - Opened up a dreary cool day wind from the NE Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered 38 Degrees tempature, The familey a rose Some what late this (morning) but after getting prepared for work the writer went to work and prepared a fire in our bed room then went to work and with the assistance of my wife prepared our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same and when through then the writer went to work put the dining table and contents all in good Shape a gain we then did not anything what ever through the entire day but rest and eat as our Son Lum Costley (Christopher Collumbus) was with us alday from Waco Texas, and we Stayed at home and enjoyed each others companey and after Eating of our meals we taken a good long rest talking over old thins that had past and gone. and after getting through we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford State of Texas
Sunday December the 28th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cold disagreeable mornng wind from the NE blowing very cold Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning but after getting prepared for buisiness the writer prepared a fire in our bed room then went to work and prepared our morning meal with the help of my wife and after getting of it prepared and placed on the table we then Eat our mornings meal and after getting through the writer then went to work and put the dining table and contents all in good Shape again then being the Sabbath day of our lord 1913 we remained at home and taken our rest and eat our too meals vituals through the day and when our regular bed time comes a round we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a pleasant nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Monday December the 29th AD 1913 - Opened up quite a cold disgreeable morning but clear and bright wind from the North blowing cold Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 30 Degrees tempature The familey arose very late this morning as the old people had the age of getting up very earley but after arising from our bed of repose and getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room then went to work with the help of my wife and prepared our morning meal and after getting Served and placed in front of a good fire we Seated our Selves down by the Same then eat our morning meal having our youngest Son Lum Costley to dine with the old people as he has been with parents ever Since Christmas night and when we were through with our morning meal he began to prepare him Self to go to waco on the noon train to day and did go and as he was a cripple the writer assisted him too the train being about 12 - oclock being 25 minutes late i then returned home and kept up a fire for my wife as She was not very Stout on account of a long continued Spell of Sickness here lately but is getting up again feeling much better at present and i did but little of any kind of work but clean up about the house and prepare wood for the fire place in our bed room and feed my horse and fowls, and after getting my wood in Shape for burning and put on too the galery i then eat my second meal for to day in companey with my wife and after getting through and the vessels used in eating then the feeding of the horse and fowls came off and when through and the writer had recorded what had been done on the premises to day we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of getting a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people too night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford in the State of Texas
Tuesday December the 30th AD 1913 - Opened up a cold a cold foggy morning up too a bout Eleven oclock then passed a way wind this morning changed too the South but Still cold as ever heavey frost Similar to a Snow Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 28 Degrees tempature. The familey arose some what late this morning but when prepared for work the writer went to work and built on a good fire then went to work to prepare the morning meal i put the coffee of to make fed my horse then returned too the house and finish cooking the morning meal with the help of my wife as She has got in a condition So She can be of Some help to me at present then after getting of it prepared and Spred before the fire in our bed room we portaken of a portion of the Same and when through the writer went to work and put the vessels that we used all in good Shape again i then went to work and finished a letter that i had Started to write to J M Costley and familey and after finishing the Same i carried it too the post office and mailed it i then returned too my place and write a nother letter to a companey at the city of Pacos in Reeves County and Sent a deed of Lum Costleys too that place to be recorded and Sent it off to day we then prepared our Evening meal and eat the Same and after getting and taken of a Short rest we then put down a carpet that E.D.Costley made his mother a Christmas present of and when through with that part of the work i walked a cross the Street from the writer lives and obtained his rench to turn the water on at my Hidren to obtain water for my hose and for using water at the place and after getting plenty i then cut the water off and taken the rence home then the writer walked down in to crawford to find out by Some one how to desolve Puddy when it had nearley turn to a hard rock. about that time Mr E E Mulican had brought the writer a load of wood and had to return home before finding out any thing about it to See about the wood matters and after Mr E E Mulican left i went to work and choped up enough to run me through the night then brought it in doors to be handy as it was very cool and disagreeable and after getting through i then fed and watered my horse then returned too the house and recorded the labor done on the premises to day and after getting through we then taken a rest for a bit and departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night W. Wednesday December the 31st AD 1913 - Opened up quite a gloomey morning cloudey and cold wind Strong from the North Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey arose from our bed of repose quite late this morning after getting prepared for business the writer as usual put the coffee on the fire to make i then proceeded too the lot then fed my horse after getting through i returned too the house and went to work then assisted my wife in prepareing our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table in our bed room we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through the writer put the vessels a way in good Shape that we used in eating of our morning meal and when through i then went to work to writing a letter too my grandaughter at Joshua Texas and after getting of it write i taken it too the postoffice then mailed the letter to Miss Mary Frownfelter my grad Daughter at Joshua Texas. after getting through my wife and the writer went to work then prepared our noon and Evening meal as the both come in as one as we onley eat our too meals per day as the days are So Short and doing nothing what ever onley pass the time away as we are getting too old to work. and a bout all we can do is to bequiet and await the time to come for the old folks to leave this country with as little confusing as possible to any one what ever and after getting our work about the house finished up and my horse fed we taken a good long rest Spell then departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of getting a good nights rest rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford
this is the last day of December AD 1913 which has been an exterry fowl month there has been more disasters and deaths happened in this month than has happened in the first Eleven months of the year 1913 just past and gone never to return again
January the 1st 1913 (1914) - Opened up quite a opened up quite a nice cool day wind from the north Some what cool but a pleasant day for work in Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 44 Degrees tempature the familey a rose (Some ) what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in our bedroom then ground and put the coffee on to make then fed my horse then returned too the house and my wife and the writer prepared our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves down at our breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through the writer went to work and put the table and contents all in good Shape again i then went to work to greese my cart after greesing of it i fed my horse a few ears of corn then put the geer on him and then hitched him too my cart then drove over in too Ed Costley pasture for a load of wood as my wood pile was quite low and the writer had to go or do with out wood to burn, and did go and get a light load as the roads was in Such a fix one could not pull but a little at a time, of wood after returning home i then unloaded my wood taken the horse from the cart then fed him and prepared wood to burn to night and morning then put it in the galery to be handy to get at in cast that it turned cold i then eat my evening meal in companey with my wife after getting through and the table and contents cared far we taken a rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Friday January the 2th AD 1913 (1914) - Opened up quite a nice morning bright and clear wind from the north blowing nice and cool but not So very unpleasant Thermometer at or near 8- oclock in the morning registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for buisiness the writer proceeded too the lot then fed his horse and after feeding of the horse i returned too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed before the fire in our bed room we Seated our Selves down in front of our fire in our bed room then eat our morning meal when through and the vessels cared for that we used in eating of our morning meal the writer then began to prepare for going too the woods for a load of wood and did go and get it and had Some better luck than i had on yestarday as i picked out a better road to travail and did not take Such hard pulling to pull my load and made the trip much easier on my teem. after arriving at home i unloaded the cart then taken my horse from the cart taken the geer off of him then gave him a lick of Salt as i had not Salted him in Some length of time i then went to work to prepareing wood for night and morning i then taken general Robertson and his lady a jar of blackburries and a plate of pound cake for a Christmas give.(gift) i then returned home and fed my horse then we eat our evening meal and after getting through and the vessels put away in good Shape we taken a rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quit nights rest to night is the desire of the writer to night hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the writer to night W. Saturday January the 3dh AD 1914 - Opened up quite a bright cool morning not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements wind from the South blowing cold and brisk Thermometer at or near 8 - Oclock this morning Registered at 38 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for work the writer then went to work and first fed his horse then returned too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when through and the vessels and dining table cared far the writer then caught and curried his horse then fed him down too Bob Coffmans black Smith Shop and had the fore Shoes recit (?) as he was Some what lame in his write fore foot and when the Shoes was taken off of Mr Bob Coffman found a corn in his foot and cut the most of it out and put the Shoes on him again and when through Shoeing of him i brought him home then fed him a gain as it were near 12- Oclock noon about that Tom Stirling and wife come to Town to trade and Spend the day with the old people at home and as the writer was Sick he did not See a very good time all to gether after eating of our dinner Tom Stirling walked down in too the buisiness part of the town to do Some trading and after getting through he returned back too the house and taken a Short rest then departed home they were in a wagon the writer then although feeling poorley walked down too the post office and mailed a letter to James D Tubbs of Stanford Texas then returned home done up my night Schored then fed my horse and after taken a cold Snack for our Evening meal then a Short rest we then departed too our bed of repose hoping for a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people at home W.E.Costley at home in Crawford Tex
Sunday January the 4th AD 1914 - Opened up bright and clear at the beginniing of the day but in a Short while after the morning had opened up there blew up a dark blew norther and turned cold Sudantley and become very dark and cloudey and began to turn cold just and become very cold in dead with a Strong norther blowing Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 42 Degrees tempature with a favorable prospect of a Severe Spell of weather The familey arose Some whate late this morning but when prepared for buisiness the writer went to work and renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room then ground and put the coffee on to make the writer then fed his horse and Shucked the corn to feed the fowls when it come time to feed them when through i returned too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed before a good fire we then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the vessels put a way in good Shape we then enjoyed the heet of a good fire as it were turning quite cool as the day passed a way it has the appearance of rain Sleet or Snow, very much as the Elements are densly drearry drearry and dark i am looking forward for a Severe Spell of weather as evry thing in the Elements goes to Show that it is coming and did come earley this morning a heavey norther and had the appearance of Sleet or rain untill a bout one hour before the Sun passed a way from which time the clouds passed a way and the Sun calm (came) out and become clear and bright and the Sun Sit clear and nice and the wind went down considerably fixing for a freeze to night we eat our noon and evening meal to gathe this evening at or near three oclock this evening our evening (meal) was Sent to the old people by Mrs Broach the tavern keeper of Crawford Texas as a christmas preasant by one of her Daughter and thankfully received by the old people at home and when through with our evening meal consisting of baked Turkey and the dressing also Some pound cake rostenears and other cakes in connetion with the other good things Sent along which the old people Sumptious made a good meal for which we felt very thankful to the good lady of the house for the Same and after getting through and the vessels put a way in good Shape we then had a long conversation with the young ladies that brought the old people there dinner the too Miss Broch and Miss Bennitt the girls were about 12 years old Each and live in Crawford Texas and after they left for there place of abode the writer went to work and prepared wood for night and morning then brough and put the wood on the galerry then fed his horse and that ended the out door work for to day So we taken our usual rest then departed too our bed of repose with the hopes of receiving a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W. Monday January the 5th AD 1919 (1914) Opened up a clear bright morning but very cold and a heavey frost and freeze wind Still in the north with plinty of ice this morning Thermometer at or near 8 - Oclock this morning registered at 28 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the writer then renewed the fireplace in our fire place in our bed room, then ground and put the coffee on the fire to make i then fed my horse after getting through i returned too the house and went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table near the fire we then Seated our Selves in front of a good fire then taken in our breakfast as usual as we eat all times in front of the fire place on account of being So disagreeable to eat in our kitchen and after getting the writer put a way the vessels used in eating of our morning meal in good Shape a gain i then finished writing a letter to C.C.Costley of waco Texas and mailed after mailing of the letter i returned home and taken a Seat by the fire and taken a long rest as it was quite cool too cold for a old man like my Self to be out in it So i remained in doors only when i had to feed and chop up wood to burn in the fire place and to feed and we eat our noon and evening to geather at or near fore oclock in the afternoon and when through and the vessels used in eating of our last meal to day we taken a rest up too nine oclock to night then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer and wife W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford State of Texas
Tuesday January the 6th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cold bright cold morning wind not stationary Shifts frequentley heavey frost and freeze the last past night Thermometer at 8 - Oclock this morning registered at 27 Degrees tempature bright and clear not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements The familey just too ov us my wife and the writer arose from our bed of repose very late this morning on account of the writer not being very well as i had Something Similar too a Chill on the last past night rested badley So after arising from our bed of repose at or near half past Eight oclock this morning and getting prepared for buisiness the writer ground and put the coffee on the fire to make then fed his horse and returned back too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed before the fire in our bed room we then portaken of the Same as it were too cool for old people to eat a way from the fire after we were through the writer then put a way the vessels that we used in Eating of our morning meal in good Shape again Then as it were So cold we did nothing through the fore part of the day baking our Selves before a good fire in our bed room and during the time that we were portaken of our morning meal being Something near nine oclock in the fore noon old ladey Jones came in to See the old people just as we were portaken of our of our morning meal and remained Some one hour then left and went over too her Daughter So we just remained by the fire up to half past too oclock P.M. then prepared our noon and evening meal together after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same when through my wife went to work and put the table and contents all in good Shape again then the writer went to work and prepared a few hends nests and then went to work and greesed my buggy out fit of my lines and head Stall and other work a round the premises of the pidling work for my wife and when through i then prepared wood for night and morning then brought, it in doors to be handy i then fed and watered my horse i then returned too the house and renewed the fire in the fire place in our bedroom i then Seated my Self down at my writing table and recorded what labor has been done through the day to day and after getting throug we then departed to our bed of repose hoping to get a good nighs rest to night, is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas.
Wednesday January the 7th AD 1914 Opened up quite a cold bright morning but not freezing wind from the west blowing quite cold Thermometer at or near 8 - Oclock this registered at 40 Degrees tempature The familey a rose from our bed of rest this morning and after being prepared for buisiness the writer renewed the fire in our bedroom then as usual ground and put the coffee on to boil or make i then prepared feed and fed my horse after feeding of him i returned too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed in front of a good fire in our bed room we Seated our Selves around the luxurries then portaken of our morning meal and when through we put the vessels away in good Shape that we used in portaken our morning meal we then taken a Short rest then the writer walk down too the postoffice to See if there were any mail for the writer and as there was a paper there for the writer i obtained the Same then returned home and geered up my teem and hitched him too my cart then drove over too the Bosque Bluff and cut and halled a load of wood after returning home i drove in too my lot and unloaded the Same then taken my horse from the cart taken the geer off of him then i gave him a feed of corn i then returned too the house and taken a rest untill my wife could prepare our evening meal which she did in a Short while then after taken a nother rest i went to work and prepared wood for night and morning and brought it in doors to be handay then fed my horse again as it growing near night fall after getting through and taken our usual rest we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest is the desire of the old Lady and the writer to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford State of Texas
Thursday January 8th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cool morning but quite clear and bright with the exception of a few white haisey clouds floating about in the Elements, wind from the North East, Thermometer at or near Eight oclock this morning Registered at 44 Degrees but turning cooler about half past Eight oclock this morning as the wind changed from the South to North East but not very Strong. The familey arose from there bed of repose some what late this morning but after prepareing our Selves for buisinesss the writer then renewed the fire in the fire place in our bedroom then ground and put the coffee to make on the fire i then fed my horse and after getting through i returned too the house and with the help of my wife we prepared the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same and when through and the table and contents cared far the writer went to work to washing out Some garments for the familey and after getting throug we then went to work and prepared or noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the dinner table and partaken of the portion of the Same and when through and the dinner table and contents cared far the writer then caught and geered his horse hitched him too my cart then drove over too middle Bosque breaks for a load of wood and after arriving at the place i tied my horse too a tree i then went to chopping a load of wood and after getting of it choped i loaded it on my cart then drove for my place in the Town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i unloaded my wood on too my wood yeard then taken my horse from the cart taken the geer of of him then gave him water then Staked him out i then returned too my wood pile and choped up enough wood to burn in the fire place to night and in the morning and layed it in the galery to be handy by that time my wife had the evening meal Served placed on the table and anounced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves down at our evening meal then eat the Same and when through and the Supper table and contents cared for i then brought up my horse that i had Staked out and watered then fed him So that was the last work done to day we then taken a Short rest and departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the Desire of the writer to night and wife. Friday January the 9th AD 1914 - opened up quite a cool morning but clear and bright as the noon days Sun wind from the north blowing mainley Thermmometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 48 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what earlier this morning and after being prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room i then as i usually do ground and put the coffee on too make then returned too the horse lot and fed my horse and when through returned too the house and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served then placed on the dining table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then porceeded too our advocation of like Such as washing of our garments and attending too our house hole afared untill noon to day from which we went to work and prepared our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then eat a portion of the Same when through my wife attended too the dinner table and put evry thing in good Shape again whilst the writer prepared him Self for the woods i geered then hitched my horse too my cart then mounted in too my cart then drove over too the middle Bosque brakes for a load of wood and whilst there i drove a cross the middle Bosque and then drove up too Bosticks ranch about a quarter of a mile above the crossing of the Bosque to See how John Bostick was getting a long i found him doin quite well clearing up land for Ed Costley on the north Side of middle Bosque creek in the bottom after conversing with him for Some bit i then drove back on the South Side of the creek and cut me a load of dry wood then drove home in the town of Crawford Texas and unloaded my load of wood on too my wood yeard then taken the horse from the cart taken the geer off of him then Staked him out on the Streets the writer then eat his evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the then announced the Same readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the Supper table then portaken of our evening meal and when through my wife attended to the table and put evry thing a way in good Shape again whilst the writer prepared wood for the fire place in our bed room and brought it in doors i then fed and curried my horse and that was the last work that was to be done out doors to day So i returned in doors and recruted the fire in the fire place in our bedroom and when through i went to work the recorded the Labor that has been done to day about the premises a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Saturday January the 10th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a bright cool morning wind from the North bright and clear Thermometer at or near Seven oclock A M of to day Registered at 40 Degrees tempature The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for buisiness the writer renewed the fire in our bed room then went to work and ground and put the coffee on the fire to make then fed my horse and when through i returned too the house and went to work and prepared the morning meal and when completed i placed it before the fire in our bed room then Seated our Selves a round the Same and partaken of the Same when through and the vessels put a way in good Shape the writer caugh and led his horse down to the black Smith Shop and had my horse Shod behind and after getting of him Shod which was late up in the day i brought him back home and fed him Some corn then went to work and recorded the labor that i had done up to 12 - Oclock noon to day as my wife has been quite poorley all morning and the lasts past night not able to do any thing this norning on account of a Sick headache but is Some better at noon to day and Still the north wind blows briskley all a long the line blowing very cold and bleak but Still bright and clear as the noon days Sun with a good prospect of colder weather a head. now at or near three oclock this evening the writer prepared noon and evening meal to gether and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Sealed our Selves too the table then eat our noon and evening meal to geather then the writer walked down too John B.Nichols Store and purchased a gallon of carosene oil 25 cent worth of tobaco and a box of matches and a small package of smoking tobaco - then returned home with the Same and after deposeting my goods at home i went to work to choping up fire wood for the fire place in our bed and when through choping i brought the wood and layed it in the galery to be handy then went to work and washed up the vessels used in eating of our evening meal and when through i then brought up my horse and watered and fed my horse then returned in doors and finished the labors of the day and the condition of the weather to day as it has been a beautiful day through although cool as the north wind has been blowing brisk through out the day from morning till night and Still blowing to night at this writing being half past seven oclock PM of to day . Old mother Armstrong one of our good old neighbors of Crawford payed the old folks at home a viset this evening which was thankfully received for we were proud to See her come now as i am through we will go too our bed of repose feeling thankful too the lord for the past favor rendered too the familey today and for the further consideration of his love and kind Showed too the old people through the destinary of our lives W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford
Sunday the Lords day January the 11th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cool morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near 7-Oclock this morning registered at 30 Degrees temparture Some what cloudey enough So as to keep the sun from coming bright at all times. The familey a rose from there bed of repose Some what earlier than common this morning and when prepared for work the writer first prepare the coffee and put it on the fire to make then fed his horse and when through i then returned too the Kitchen and went to work prepareing of our morning meal being the first fire that the writer has built in the Stove in a month and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Spread our meals vituals before the fire in our bed room and portaken of the Same and when through the writer went work and put the vissels all in good Shape again and when through we then enjoyed the best heet that could be porduced from our fire place as it was quite cold and bleak and remained So the principal part of the day for all the thermometer Registered at 30 Degrees tempature there were no Signe of ice a round about the premises this morning now we had Several bright Sun shiney days here of late but quite cool all the while duing of the time My wife is much better this morning than She was yestarday morning and is able to be up rea(d)ing of the Sunday School lesson to pass of the time as she is quite feeble not able to do much work mends Sloley on account of old age and other ailments that She is afflicted with and the writer is feeling Some better than i did on yestarday as i too have not been very well for Some bit owing to Sever cold that i had contracted Some time ago at or near 5 - oclock this evening the writer went to work and choped up my night wood and brough it in doors as it Seemed that there were going to be a change in the weather before a great while as it has been quite cloudey alday and quite cool So much So we had to Keep of a fire alday as will as to night and after getting i walked down too the post office for my mail but after arriving at the place i soon found out that there was not any for me i then returned home and watered and fed my horse and after getting through i returned too the house and we eat a cold Snack for our Evening meal and after getting through and the vessels put away in good Shape we then taken a rest by a good warm fire and afterwards i then finished recording of the labor done by the writer to day and Still the good works goes on a though nothing had happened my wife is much better not troubed with her caugh So much to day as She has been which is good on her part now as i am through i will try and take a Smoak and after getting through we will depart too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the pray of the old people W.E.Costley at home
Monday January the 12th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cloudey coll day wind from the North East blowing cool Thermometer i am not able to give the tempature as i furgot to notice what the Thermometer Registered this morning but i know that the tempature were higher than yestarday morning for it was much warmer than it were yestarday morning. The familey a rose much earlier this morning than they have been in the habit of arising from there bed of repose on acount of having Some plowing to do for Mrs Alex Armstrong in her garden So after arising from my bed of rest and getting prepared for work i renewed the fire in our bed room then in the Stove then ground and put the coffee on the Stove to make i then fed my horse and when through i returned too the Kitchen then went to work and prepared our morning as my wife was not So very well and after getting of it Served and placed on the on the table i then eat my morning meal all a lone and when through my wife arose from her bed of repose and eat her morning meal and when She was through the writer went to work and put the dining table and content all in good Shape again i then caught and put the geer on my horse then led him up to Alex Armstrongs hitched him too my double Shover then went to work to brake his wifes garden and plow her onions as they were neading plowing as the ground had run to geather and become packed to geather So nothing would grown and when done plowing in the garden i then drove too my place then watered and fed my horse returned too my house then Eat my dinner as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat and when through my wife taken care of the dinner table and contents of the Same whilst the writer caught and geered his horse then hitched him too my cart then drove over too middle Bosque for a load of wood after getting of Choped and loaded on too my cart i then drove far new Crawford and after arriving at home i unloaded my wood then taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him gave him water then turned him loose in the lot untill feeding and went to choping up wood to burn in our bed room in the fire place and choped up wood untill time to feed my horse then left off work and done the feed and watering of my horse and when through i returned too the house and we eat our evening meal as my wife had it Served readey to be eat, after we were through and the vessels put a way in good Shape we then taken a few minutes rest the writer finished recording of our days labors for to day and the weather as it has had the appearance of rain alday long and did Sprinkle in late this evening occasionley now as i am about through we will come to a close and go too our bed of repose hoping to get a pleasent rest to nigh is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Tuesday January the 13th 1914 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the North East Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 42 Degrees tempature with a tolerable clear morning Some few Streak of miley color floating in the atmosphere this morning my (wife) and the writer arose Some what earley this morning and after being prepared for buisiness the writer Started a fire in our bed room then in the Stove to prepare our morning meal by the writer then ground and put the coffee on the Stove to make i then fed the horse and when through with him i then returned too the Kitchen and went to work and prepared our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on my writing table in our bed room by a good fire we Seated our Selves down at the table then portaken of our morning meal after getting through withe the morning meal the writer then went to work then put the vessels used in eating of the morning all in good Shape and when through the writer walked down too the post office for my mail after arriving at the postoffice i Soon found out there was no mail for the familey so i returned home and gave my horse Some Salt then returned in doors and recorded the above then proceeded too the wood yard to chopping up wood to burn in our fire place in our bed room and choped up wood up to a bout Elemen oclock this morning then let off chopping and fed my horse making preperations to go too the woods for a load of wood and did go and after arriving at the Bosque breaks i tied my horse too a tree then went to work to chopping up of a load of wood after getting of it choped and loaded on to my wagon i then drove for my place in the Town of Crawford Texas, after arriving at home i unloaded my wood the taken my horse from the wagon taken the geer off of him gave him water him i then staked him out on the Streets of Crawford the writer returned to the house then taken a few minutes rest, i then walked down too the postoffice for my (mail) and after arriving at the post office i received a letter from my grandaughter Mary Frownfelter of Joshua Texas i then returned by Mrs Doctor naihg(?) for Some milk for my wife as she was wanting some milk very much as She has been Sick for Some bit but is much better at present after getting of the milk i returned home and gave the milk too my wife she then turned in and cooked her some oat meal So She could have a number one meal out of her milk and the oat meal cooked which She did for She had the evening meal prepare when i returned home So we Seated our Selves to the supper table then portaken of our evening meal after getting through the writer put away the vessels that we used in Eating of our evening meal for too day and when through we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at hnome in the town of Crawford Texas
Wednesday January the 14th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the Southwest Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey a rose tolerabley earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in our bedroom then in the cookstove in the dining room i then ground and put the coffee on the Stove to make the next for the writer to do was to feed his horse after getting through i returned too the kitchen and went to work and prepared the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through my wife attended to putting the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer caught and geered my poney hitched him too my cart then drove over too the break of middle Bosquey for a load wood after arriving at the place i tied my horse to a tree then went to work and choped up a load of wood i then loaded the wood on too my cart then mounted my Self on too my cart i then drove for my place in the town of Crawford Texas after arriving at home i taken my horse from my cart then watered and fed him then unloaded my wood i then returned too the house then eat my noon meal being three oclock in the after noon of to day after getting through my wife attended too the dinner table and evry thing in good Shape again whilst the writer hitched his horse too my cart then throwed it in too my cart a couple of Sacks of cotton picked in the burr by Mirtle Sparkman and drove down in to Crawford and Sold the Same to old man Smith the ginner for on(e) and a half cent per pound and after receiving the money for the Same being 69 pounds coming to one dollar even after getting of it unloaded i drove too the farmers bank and received one dolar for the cotton that i had just Sold too old man Smith i then drove taken my horse from the cart taken the geer off of my horse and staked him out then taken a rest as i were not feeling well by no means and at or near Six oclock i taken my horse up then fed him then put wood in my galerry enough to run me night and morning when through i returned indoors Seated my Self at my writing table and went to work at writing a letter to one of my grandaughter at Joshua in Johnson county Miss Mary Frownfelter and when through i then went to work and recorded the labor that has been done by the familey to day as my wife has been as buisey as i have to day as She was Sewing on one of her new frocks to day now as we are about through we will go too our bed or repose hoping to get a good nights rest to nigh is the desire of the writer to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Thursday January the 15 AD 1914 - Opened up quite a nice morning wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey arose tolerably earley this morning and when prepared for work the writer then renewed the fire in our bed room then in our Stove in the cook room i then ground and put the coffee on to make, the writer then walked too my barn then fed my horse and after feeding of him i then returned too the Kitchen and went to work and prepared the morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then eat our morning meal after we were through the writer went to work then put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again i then caught curried then put the buggy geer on my horse hitched him too my Buggy then my wife and the writer mounted our Selves in our buggy then drove out for Tom Stirlings to Spend the day with him and family and take dinner with them and after eating of a nice dinner with the familey and Spend the most of the day with them and having of a good time we then drove for our place in Crawford Stoping at Mr Muligans and Spending about one hour to get lot of milk and butter and then finished out our trip and after arriving at home we alighted from our buggy then the writer taken the horse from the buggy taken the geer off of him then fed him when through i then prepared wood to burn in our fire place and put it on the gatery we then eat our evening meal, that my wife had prepared for the familey after getting through my wife went to work the put her Suppertable and contents all in good Shape again and when through, we moved in too our bed room by a good warm fire but the weather did not demand it as it had been quite warm alday but however we had the fire about that time Mrs Gee and her oldest daughter come over to chat a while and then returned home again we then continued to rest a while longer then departed too our bed of repose hoping to receive a good nights rest in the desire of the writer to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Friday January the 16th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a bright clear morning wind from the South west Thermometer at half past nine oclock this morning Registered at 60 Degrees Tempature The familey arose from there bed of repose tolerably earley this morning for old people as we are up a past the 80 ties and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in our bed room then in our cook Stove then ground and put the coffee on the Stove to make the writer then proceeded too the horse lot and fed his horse and fowls then returned too the kitchen then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through my wife went to work and put her dining table and contents all in good Shape a gain. whilst the writer went to work and washed out a pare of pants for him Self, after getting of them washed and hung out to dry i went to work making preperations to go too the Brakes of Middle Bosque for a load of wood, but first thing to do was to greese the cart wheels as it was running dry for the want of greesing. after getting through i returned too the house and Eat a light Dinner out i was not hungry but knowing that i would not be back untill late in the evening i eat a few bites in order from getting hungery after getting through i then hitched the horse too the cart then drove for the Bosque Bottom, to John Bosticks garden place on the north Side of middle Bosque, to See him on Buisiness and after getting through i then drove back to the South Side of the creek and tied my horse then went to work and Soon choped a load and after getting of it choped up i then loaded it on my cart and when loaded i then drove for my place in the town of Crawford Texas. after arriving at home i throwed the wood off in the wood pole when through i taken the geer off of my horse then Staked the horse out on the Street of Crawford i then taken a Short rest then went to work to chopping up night wood for the fire place in our bedroom also wood for the cook Stove then brought it in doors we then eat our evening meal and when through my wife taken care of her Supper table and contents of the Same whilst the writer fed and watered my horse after getting through i then returned too the house for a rest and after resting for a while then went to work and recorded the work done by my Self and my wife to day when through we taken a rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the desire of the old people to night Now this has been the warmest day that has been this winter the Thermometer Registered at 78 Degrees this evening W.E. Saturday January the 17th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a coudey foggy morning mist of rain falling dark and gloomey Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 506 (56?) Degrees tempature with a good prospect of falling weather The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting in a Shape for buisiness the writer renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room then in the cook Stove in the dining room, then ground and put the coffee on the Stove to make then proceeded too the lot and fed my horse and when through i returned too the Kitchen the(n) went to work and prepare the morning meal and after getting of it Served then placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our morning meal a bout that time Mrs Ida and Miss Ada Costley Steped in doors just of(f) the morning pasenger train from Waco So after greeting each other all the companey and the old people Seated our Selves to the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal when through and then the writer went to work and put the breakfast table and content all in good Shape again then the writer taken Some letters and mailed them one for annie Sterling and too for my Self i then returned home and had to make a nother trip for Some Suplies for the table in the nature of bacon Rice and dried apples. homeny also Some butter then returned home with the Same and after arriving at home Ida and Ada Costley had prepared our noon meal So we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our noon meal after all were through then Ida Costley went to work and put the dining table and contents all in good Shape again they then taken a rest from her labors and the writer walked down, too Nichols and companey Store and purchased three pounds of butter to take to Waco with her when she goes back home to waco after purchasing the butter i then returned home with the Same then i walked back to town by the way the way of the gin as they were ginning cotton as there were a good deal of cotton come in to town today to See what it was worth i was told by one of the men that it was Selling at one and a half cents per pound the burr as that is the way it was gathered . but what it was Selling at in the bale i did not find out i then passed through the town conversing with my neighbors and passing from one too the other i Soon made my way back home after arriving at home i taken a rest then after getting rested i then brought up my horse that i Stake on the Streets and watered and fed him then went to work and prepared wood to burn in the fire place in our bed room also for the cooking Stove and brought it in doors to be handy as the day has been quite unfavorable for Settled weather and when through we then Eat our Evening meal and when through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest we then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the familey to night The clouds blew off and become clear and bright just before the Sunset, too day W E Costley at home
Sunday the Lords day we are commanded to keep it holey we must neither work nor play for it is gods holey day being January the 18th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a dark morning in the first part of the day but as the day advanced the fog and clouds past away and become bright and clear wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning arose from our bed of repose and when prepared for work the writer then renewed the fire in our bed room then in the cook Stove in the dining room then ground and put the coffee on to make then fed my horse after getting through, i returned too the house and assisted in prepareing of our morning meal as Ida and Ada Costley was bossed the buisiness in prepareing the morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selve too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when all were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far we then taken another rest and in the coorse of an hour Ada Costley dresses her person & walked up too Mrs Graves to See the familey and Miss Laura Costley her cousin and the older people remained at home. and at or near 12 - Oclock noon Ada had a message come over the wires from Waco So the writer had to walk up to Mrs Graves to let Ada know it and when She come too the fone it was her Brother Dean Costley at Waco that had Sent to her a message over the fone, that they were all well and getting a long nicely She then returned to Mrs Graves with her cousin Laura Costley to Spend the day with the familey as they Scarsley ever get to See each other as Laura Costley lives in the west end of Hamelton County Texas and Ada Costley lives in the city of Waco Texas now at or near one oclock in the after noon of to day we eat our noon meal prepared by my wife and Mrs Ida Costley of Waco Texas after getting through my wife and Ida Costley went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape again then taken a rest again as it were the Sabbath day of our lord 1914. After resting for a while the writer walked down too the postoffice to See if there were any mail for the familey and did not obtain any thing what ever So i returned by the post masters house and obtained Several newspapers that he had at his place and had red them over but were late papers i then returned home and the familey Set in to reading of the news to see what was going on in different parts of the world and after getting through the writer went to work and prepared wood for the fire place in our bedroom also for the cook Stove in our cook room then brought it in doors to be handy and as Ada and Laury Costley had just returned from the Crawford cemetry i taken my horse from my buggy taken the geer off him then the girls assisted me in putting the Buggy back in the barn and after locking of the doors i then watered and fed my horse, then returned too the house and the familey eat there evening meal, and when through and the Supper table and contents cared far we then Seated our Selves too the fire in our bedroom and taken a rest up to half past 8-Oclock AM (PM) at night we then taken Ida and Ada Costley too the Depot to for them to take the train to Waco as they live at the place after the train come in too Crawford and the pasenger went aboard of the train and started for their Journeys end the writer then returned home then we returned too our bed of repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Monday January the 19th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a nice clear morning wind from the South west Thermometer at or near Seven oclock registered at 44 Degrees tempature The familey arose quite late this morning and when prepared for work the writer as usual renewed the fire in the fire place i then renewed the fire in the cook Stove and when burning good i then ground and put the coffee on to make then as i usualy do i went too the lot and fed my horse and after feeding of my horse i returned too the Kitchen and went to work and finished prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our morning meal after getting through the writer went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain then the writer walked down too Edwards and brothers and purchased a bottle of Pinex to make Some caugh medison and after returning home my wife went to work and made the medison by adding the mixture as describe on bottle that containes the Pinex in it and during of the time the writer was recording the above after me wife was through mixing of her medison She then went to work to prepare our noon meal being at this writing half past one oclock in the afternoon of to day and after getting through the writer then Staked out his horse on the Street of Crawford i then then walked down in too Crawford to mail a letter to J.M. Costley and wife after mailing of the letter i then taken a walk a round in the buisiness part of the, buisiness part of the Town to See how the buisiness was carried on i found buisiness quite dull in trade to day but that is the case in all buisiness Some days more flusher than others in the trade buisiness i then viseted the Spot where they were raising a ice house and they too were getting a long nicely by Slow work as the frame were quite heavey to handle with the a mount of men they had onley five men after Standing a round untill i become tiard i then returned home and done up my night work then watered and fed my horse. i then returned too the house and prepared a cold lunch for my wife and my Self after getting through and the table and contents cared far we then taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of my wife and the writer : W.E.Costley at home
Tuesday January the 20th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a morning wind from the North Thermometer at or near 7-Oclock in or this morning Registered at 44 Degrees tempature, The familey arose Some what late and after being prepare for work the writer went to work as usual to prepare our morning meal i first prepared the fire in our fire place in our bed room i then Started a fire in the Stove in our cook room then ground and put the coffee on the Stove make the next to do was to feed my horse i then returned too the Kitchen and went to work to prepare the morning meal when Served and placed on the table my wife and my Self Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our morning meal after we were through and the breakfast table cared far as there had blew up a norther we Seated our Selves down in front of a good fire and as fire had become comfortable too our feeling and remained in doors the principal part the day Joe Ellis Stayed all night with the old folks on the last past night but left before breakfast this morning as we get up too late for any one that is carrying on buisiness at this writing it is becoming quite cloudey and cool and the norther appears to be increasing in Strength and feeling but never the less buisiness appears to be moving up as thow nothing had happened up too about half past three oclock P.M. we then Eat our noon meal as it was alreadey prepared for the familey and after getting through and the table and contents cared far we then taken arest by that time it was growning late and the writer went to work and prepared wood for night and morning for the fire place in our bed room and in the dining room in our cook Stove then brought in doors as it looked a great deal like it might rain to night as it is very damp and cloudey and resembling rain very much with 60 Degrees tempature at five oclock PM this Evening although a Strong North blowing all day and when throug wood buisiness i then fed my horse and through with him i returned too the house and Seated my Self down by good fire and recorded my days work and when through we taken a Short rest and then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire to night old man Tom Noland called in to See the old people who now lives out North west on the plains of Texas W.E. Wednesday January the 21st 1914 - Opened up quite a cool day but the wind from the South Some what cloudey and become very cloudey at or near Sun Set in the west, Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 34 Degrees tempature The familey at or near 8 - oclock and a rose from there bed of repose and after getting prepared for buisiness the writer Started the fire in our bed room then fed and cared for i then returned too our Kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and prepared our morning meal as my wife was hardley to go too the Kitchen these cool mornings and prepare our meal vituals as yet therefore i have to take her place untill She does get able to do the work and So Soon as i had the morning meal prepared and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same and after getting of it eat the writer went to work then put the dining table and contents of the Same all in good Shape then walked down too the postoffice and mailed a letter to C.C.Costley at Waco Texas after mailing of the letter i walked down to William Ellis barken Shop to get a part of a bottle of Peruna that Joe Ellis left at the Shop when he left for Caldwell Burleson County Texas to sell a horse for his Brother Goy Ellis as he Shiped the horse by rail Road on yestarday evening and Joe Ellis went at one oclock this morning to meet the horse at Caldwell Texas in order to take the horse off of the train in order to Sell the horse for his brother after getting the peruna i then returned home with the medison and gave it too my wife then taken a rest for i were not feeling good by no means what ever and lay around the house up to too oclock this evening from which the writer geered and hitched his horse too his hack then loaded on the hack or cart Seven Sacks of corn Shucks then mounted on the cart and drove over too my old place and taken the Shucks for Mr Mulican to feed to a cow that he is milking of hers and to get Some milk and butter for my wife as She can not eat evry thing that the writer can eat after returning home and delivering the Same to my wife i then Stripped the geer off of my horse and Staked him on the street of Crawford then returned too the house eat my noon meal and evening meal to gether being about six oclock this evening and after getting through i then fed and put water in the lot then returned too the house Seated my Self at my writing table and made a record of the labor done by the familey to day as it has not been no great deal done as my wife nor the writer are able to but little as She is just getting up out of a Spell of Sickness and i have been in the act of taken down for the last ten days it has not been So very cold to day but has been a disagreeable day as the wind has been quite disagreeable day all the way through up to night fall to night and Still no better The cultivated lands Since the bigg flood is becoming to be quite hard to manage just now as it is getting dry and it has run to gather and become quite tuff to pull up it takes a heavey teem to bust it up but however they are doing it just write but it leaves the field awful clodey and in bad Shape now as i am about through we will go too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the family W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Thursday January the 22th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a clear bright nice morning wind from the west blowing Strong and cool Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 44 Degrees tempature with a good prospect of a fare day a head. The familey a rose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the fireplace in our bedroom then proceeded too my horse lot then fed my horse after getting through i returned too our Kitchen and renewed the fire on our cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it prepared we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table we then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the breakfast table and contents of the Same we then moved in too the bed room by a good fire one that was fully warmed up alright and after taking a good long warm i then fed my horse Some oats then waked down to John B Nichols and companeys Store and purchased too and one half pounds of coffee then returned by Dr. Nailes and obtained Some Sweet milk for my wife after obtaining of the milk i then returned home with the Same and delivered the milk too my wife then Sit down at my writing table and recorded the Same and at this writing the South wind is blowing really Strong and cool although bright and cool wind not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements at or near half past three oclock this evening the writer prepared his noon meal and evening meal to gather and after getting of it Served and placed on the table than writer Seated him Self too the table then Eat his noon and evening meal and after getting through and the table and contents cared far i then went to work to answer a letter that i had just received from Virginia Frownfelter of Joshua Texas and after getting of it write i mailed the same then done my nights work and we eat our evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat after we were through the writer went to work and put the suppertable and content all in good Shape again we then moved in too our bed room for a Short time and after resting for a bit i went to work to record our days labors and the weather as it was a nice day but the wind was Strong from the west alday but calmed down just after night and after getting through we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old folks to night W.E.Costley at home in Crawford
Friday January the 23dh Ad 1914 - Opened up a cloudey morning threatening rain very much wind from the South west Strong earley in the day Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 52 Degrees tempature with a great prospect of rain the familey arose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room then proceeded too the horse lot and fed my horse and when through i returned too our Kitchen and renewed the fire in our cook Stove i then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening (morning) meal and when through the writer went to work then put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape a gain then the writer went to work and cleared out the ditches in my lot and also worked on my Stable door up to twelve oclock noon to day then eat my dinner after getting through i geered my horse hitched him too my cart then drove over too the breaks of Middle Bosque for a load of wood and after arriving at the place i tied my horse to a tree then went to work and choped a load of wood then loaded it on my wagon then drove for home after arriving at home i taken my horse from my cart gave him water then pulled the geer off of him then Staked him out on the Street i then taken a few minutes rest then unloaded my wood after getting through i then walked too the postoffice for my mail then returned home and prepared wood for night and morning for the fire place in our bedroom also for the cook Stove and brought it indoors to be handy then fed my horse after getting through i returned too the house then eat my evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat So i Seated my Self too the Supper table then eat my meal all a lone as my wife did not want to eat not feeling very well after getting through and the table and contents cared far i then moved in too my bed room for a rest after resting for a bit i then went to work and recorded the labor done on the premises to day also the condition of the weather and after getting through i lay my pen to one Side and made preperation for going to bed and when prepared i then departed too my bed of repose hoping to receive a pleasant nights rest for my Self and wife and all persons that has a chance to Sleep to night is the desire of the writer W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Saturday January the 24th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock A M of to day registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey arose Some what late this morning and after being prepared for work the writer then Started a fire in our bed room then p_ _ _ eat too the lot then fed my horse and when through i returned too the kitchen renewed the fire in the cook room Stove then went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through the writer went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again then the writer went to work and curried my horse and put the geer on him then hitched him too my cart drove over too my old place too look for the cattle that we had in the pasture after taken a lengthy walk over the pasture i found them i then returned too the South Side of the creek in too Ed Costleys Cessom field too where i had left my horse and cart and eat my dinner i then began to look a round for my horse and behold he was not to be Seen nowhere i then Started out in Serch for him but did not find the horse in the field i then lit out in too the pasture adjoining of the pasture or field rather and found him at E D Costley pasture gate had got out of the field i caught and led him back to where i were at work and tied him up untill i could finish cutting a load of wood after getting of the wood choped i geered and hitched him too my cart loaded on my wood then drove for Crawford Texas now where i live after arriving at home i then taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him i then gave him Some water then turned him loose on the lot to wallow and rest for a while untill i could unload my wood and when through i then fed the horse and when through with him i walked down in too Crawford too the post office for my mail after getting of it i Steped in too Nichols and companeys Store then purchas a gallon of caroil carosene oil and taken it home too my wife at home i then went to work and prepared wood for my fire place in our bed room also the Kitchen and brought it in doors to be handy we then eat our Evening meal prepared by my wife as she has become able to be a bout and help the writer a great deal in my buisiness after geting of it Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same and when through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Sunday January the 25th AD 1914 opened up quite a bright clear morning wind from the South blowing very Strong alday long but as the day passed a way it become quite drearry and Smokey in the north as though it would come a norther and did blow up at or near too oclock in the after noon of to day but Still remained bright and cool and clear what is called a dry norther in Texas The thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 52 Degrees tempature The familey a rose Something earlier this morning and after being prepared for work the writer as usual Started a fire in the fire place in our bed room then fed the horse then returned too the Kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove and went to work and prepare our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table my wife and the writer Seated our Selves at the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through the writer went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again we then taken a rest as it were the Sabbath day of our Lord 1914 and spent the day in resting onley what time we were imployed in prepareing our meals vituals for the day and attending too the Stock on the place this has been a beautiful bright day but the wind Some what uncumfortable as it blew So raped when it was in the west and also when it changed to the north the wind would come in jirks harder at times than at others, which made it uncomfortable to getting a round in it, but at the close of the day the wind went down and become calm and clear as the noon days Sun the writer and his wife Eat our noon and Evening meal at or near half past three oclock this evening when through and the table and contents cared for we then moved in too our bed room for a nother rest and after resting for a Short while i then walked down too the post office for my mail and when i returned home i went to work and prepared wood for the fire place in our bed room and cook Stove and brought it in doors i then watered and fed my horse and through locked my crib and returned too the house and went to work and recorded the labor done to day after getting through and taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the old people to night. Monday January the 26th AD 1914 - Opened up quite day day wind from the South Thermometer at at or near Seven oclock Registered at 54 Degrees tempature at Seven oclock this morning The familey arose Some what late this mroning but after getting prepared for work the writer then as usually prepared the fire in our fire place in our bed room then walked too the lot and fed my horse and when through i returned to our kitchen then Starded a fire in the Stove and went to work and prepared our morning meal after getting of it Served and place on the table then announced readey to to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal when through and the breakfast table cared for also the contents of the Same i then went to work and prepare for to wash our clothin and after getting the clothing in to Soak i then walked down too the post office to get my mail and from there i walked down to Old man Shaffners to where he was putting up a ice house for the use and benefit of the Town and after a bitt i returned too the house and went to work washing of my clothes and finished the washing at or near 12-oclock noon to day then walked down to the Edwards Store to purchas Some dovers powder as i was going to give my wife Some bluepowders and wanted Some dovers powders to go with then when i gave the Stronger Medison and when i returned home i then gave my wife the medison and then recorded what had been done on the premises up too one oclock this evening then went to work and prepared i noon and Evening meal to geather when Served a placed on the table we the portaken the Same when through and the table and contents cared far i then caught i horse then put the geer on him hitched him to my buggy then drove down too the wasp creek gordge also on too the middle bosque bridge to See the improvement that the county convicks had done to advance the betterment too the bosque Bridge and road and when i passed over it i found a great improvement on the bridge and road i returned back by the way of the cemetery to See if our graves neaded work on after arriving at the place i found them alright i remained at the cemetery Some bit as William Shrader was at the place work-on Some graves and after leaving the cemetery i then drove home after arriving at home i dismounted from my buggy taken my horse from the buggy taken the geer off of him then fed him i then returned too the wood pile and prepared wood for the bed room and cook Stove then brought it in doors to be handey i then got Miss Laura Costley to assist my in putting my buggy in the barn after getting through Miss Laura Costley returned home in the west end of Crawford and the writer returned in doors and prepared my Self for my evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our evening meal after getting through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest then the writer went to work and finished recording of the labor performed by the familey to day and when through departed too our bed of repose W.E.Costley at home in Crawford Texas
Tuesday January the 27th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 56 Degrees tempature The familey arose tolerable Earley this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire as usual in the fire in our bedroom then proceeded too the lot then proceeded too the horse lot and fed the horse and fead my horse after feeding of the horse i returned too our Kitchen renewed the fire in our cook Stove then went to work and prepared our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table my wife and the writer Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and after getting through the writer then went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again after getting through i caught then geered my horse hitched him too my plow and drove up to John B. Nichols garden and broke it up for him, then moved a cross the Streets and began to plow Frank Holder's garden and plowed on it up too half past eleven oclock in fore noon of to day i then turned out fed my horse home taken the geer off of him gave him water then fed him i then returned too the house and prepared my Self for my noon meal we then Seated our Selves to the table and portaken of our noon meal that was prepared by my wife and William Elisses wife as She had cooked the turnup greens and had brought them too my wife for her noon meal also Some nice corn bread baked nicely and Some bacon upon the whole a nice dinner we had after all after getting through my wife then went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer retired too his bed room and taken a rest and after resting for Some bit i then caught and geered my horse led him back to Frank Holders and went to braking on his garden and finished a bout half past 4 Oclock in the after noon of to day then drove home taken the geer off of him and fed him again then we or i rather i walked up too William Ellis, to look after his garden as he wants the writer to brake it up for him and i were the to see if it was tramped by Stock if it were i could not brake it with one horse but i found it in very good Shape a gain, and i returned home and done up my nights Schores and fed and watered my horse after geting through i then returned in doors and my wife and the writer eat our Evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat after getting through and the table and contents all in good Shape again we then moved in too our bedroom for a rest after resting for Some bit i then went to work and finished recording of the labor done by my wife and the writer to day being a nice day for work parts of the day Some what cloudey but Soon blowed off the new moon made its appearance it Shows that the indications Shows to be dry weather a head being a bout three quarters of a hour high a mark of dry weather it Showed up on first appearance of new moon in this month it has not So far rained in the month of January 1914 - nor is there much prospect ahead for rain in January 1914 - as the month of December was a record beater it taken all the rain from January and left it in the dry column now as i am about through we will depart too our bed of repose hoping to get aquiet nights rest to night is the desire of the writer to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Wednesday - January the 28th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cloudey day wind from the South.W. Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 62 Degrees tempature much in apearance of rain or a north(er) and in all probability both will come for it is very damp and dreary . The family arose Some what late this morning but after getting prepared for work the first work for the writer to do this morning was to feed the horse as it was too warm to renew the fire in our bed room this morning when through i returned too our Kitchen and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and after getting through and the morning table cared far the writer caught and geered his horse hitched him too his plow then drove up too William Ellis at the widow McCollums place and broke up his garden when through, i then drove back home and plowed and made a ditch between my lot and the garden pass my yard also to keep the water off of my yard and lot and when through i taken the geer off of my horse gave him water i then taken Some dishes up too William Ellis wife and brought back Some cooked mustard greens that She had cooked for my wife this morning and when i returned home i then Seated my Self at my writing table and record the work that has been done the premises by my wife and the writer up too a bout one oclock in the after noon of to day we then eat our noon meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the dinner table then portaken of our noon - meal and when through Eating my wife went to work and put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape a gain we then taken a rest and Still the wind blowing Similar too a Storm and have been blowing hard alday from the South and the clouds passing Slowley from the South too the north and very mudy in appearance as though it might rain Soon or come a change of weather now the writer after getting through with noon meal and taken a rest i walked down too the post office for my mail after receiving my mail from the post master i then walked down in too the buisiness part of the town to See what was going in the trade affare and after arriving at the place i find that the trade was very dull as there was but few people in town, after remaining for Some little bit i returned home and dug up and reset a Peachtree taken it up in the garden and set it in the west end of my yard after getting through i come in doors Seated my Self down by my writing table and red the news papers for Some time then went to work to prepareing wood for night and morning and brought it in doors. to be handy then fed my horse after getting throug , i returned to the house then we eat our Evening meal as my wife had it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat after we were through and the Supper table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest the departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good night rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Thursday January the 29th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a wind from the north cloudey Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 48 Degrees tempature. The familey arose Some what Earley this morning and when prepared for work the writer as usual renewed the fire in our bed room as it blew up a norther in the earley part of the morning with a light Shower of rain a companeying the Same and is very cloudey and cold this morning So much So it requires a good fire in the fire place too keep us warm and as the day passes a way it becomes colder. after the writer a rose this morning Some what late and when prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the fire place in our bed room then fed his horse find him quite lame this morning from cause i know not as he has been complaining from his movement of his feet for Some time but grows Some what wors untill it is a dificult matter to go at all after feeding of him i then returned too our Kitchen then renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal after getting of it Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken of our morning meal and when through the writer went to work and put the breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again and when through the writer returned too his bedroom for a good warm by the fire as i were really cold ast it were turning colder evry minute. and then we portaken of the Same and when through and the noon table and cared far we then taken a rest and after resting for a few minutes the writer walked to R.Q. Kings to take a look at his garden to See if he could brake it with one horse after looking at it i then taken a walk up too graney Graves (Levi Bickle, Brown, Graves) to See how they were getting a long after arriving at her place i found them all up but not very well the old lady was bothered with wondering pain in her body She Said it was Rhumatic pains the balance of the familey were all well getting along alrigh, i remained with them Some bit then returned home and Sit by a good warm fire Some bit then wrote a letter for my wife to a medison companey in Sant Louis Mo. for Some medison then mailed it at or near fore oclock this evening and returned home and went to work and prepared wood for the fireplace in our bed room also for the cook Stove then brought in doors to be handy as it is very cold and grew apparantley colder evry hour in the day after getting through i then fed my horse and watered him when through i returned to the house and we eat our evening meal as my wife had it Served and readey to be eat after we were through, and the vessels that we used in Eating of our evening was taken care of we then enjoyed a good warm by a comfortable fire for Some bit then departed too our bed of repose hoping to enjoy a peasible nights rest to night is the desire of the old people W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford
Friday January the 30th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a clear cold freezing morning plenty of ice wind from the North freezing Cold Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 28 Tempature. The familey arose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in our bed room as it was freezing cold and when through i then fed my horse after getting through i returned too the house and went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of my or our morning meal as we cooked it on the fire place in our bed room after getting of it Served and placed on the table then announced readey to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through and the table care far we then moved back too our fire place and taken a good warm as it was very cold and disagreeable and remained by the fire up too 12 - Oclock noon to day then began to prepare our noon meal and after getting of it Served and placed on the table we then Eat the Same when through and the table cared far the writer walked down too Nichols and companeys Store and purchased a tablet and Some candy five cets worth for to chew on to put a taste in my mouth then returned home and went to work and wrote a letter too my wife Sister in Burleson County Texas and when through i went to work and prepared wood to burn in the fire place in our bed room and after getting of it cut i then brought it in doors to be handy we then eat our evening meal and when through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bedroom for a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford
Saturday January the 31st AD 1914 Opened up a bright clear cool morning wind from the South blowing cool and tolerable brisk Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning registered at 42 Degrees tempature. The familey a rose Some what earlier this morning and when prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in our bedroom then proceeded too the horse lot and fed my horse and when through and the horse well taken care of i returned too the Kitchen then renewed the fire in the cook Stove and went to work and prepared our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we then portaken of the Same after we were through and the table and contents cared far we then moved in too our bed room for a Short rest untill the writer could take a good Smoke after getting through the writer walked down in too Crawford Texas to See if any thing was new but after arriving at the place i Soon found out that it was the country people the most of them they had brought there cotton too the gin to have it gind in order that they could get it in a Shape and Sell it which they were doing and others were in town trading and the candidates were thick mingleing with the people Speaking a good work for them Selves while the time was passing a way all having a good time of it all a lone, and after spending Some time looking on i then returned home and watered and fed my teem then we eat our noon meal as it were 12- oclock in the day as my wife had it Served and placed on the table readey to be eat when through and my wife had put the dinner table and contents all in good Shape the writer caught and geered my horse put him too my buggy then mounted my Self in the Same then drove over too my old place to get Some milk and butter as Mr Mulican was living on the place milking of my cows and they furnished the old people with milk and butter when ever we would go after it and after getting what i went after i then returned home taken my horse from my buggy taken the geer off of him then Staked him out then delivered the milk and butter that i had obtained from Mrs Mulican and she then taken care of it i then walked down in too crawford again and i Soon Seen that the croud had over doubled it Self in number that had come in too Crawford to trade as it were Saturday and the people had to come to town for Supples for the following week, after mingleing with them for ever So long i then returned home done up my night Schores then eat my evening meal all a lone as my wife had it readey and had eat hers and after i had finished my meal i then put the evening table and contents all in good Shape again then moved in too my bed room Seated my Self at my writing table and recorded the labors done by my wife and the writer to day and my wife went to bed first as She was considerably worried as she was yet feeble as She had been Sick a great while and just getting up out of a long Spell of Sickness and just getting able to do a little work and when the writer was through and i had closed my book i then departed too my bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the writer W.E.Costley at home in the town of Crawford Texas
Sunday February the 1st AD 1914 - Opened up quite a bright clear morning not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements quite cold wind from the South. blowing brisk Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Registered at 32 Degrees tempature, freezing weather but Seen no ice about my premises The familey a rose Some what late this morning and when prepared for work the writer then renewed the fire in the fire place then proceeded too the horse lot and renewed his trugh(?) and then fed him after getting through i returned too the house and renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and prepared our morning meal and after getting of it Served then placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same when through and the breakfast table cared far we then moved in too our bedroom for a rest as it was the Sabbath day of our lord 1914 and contented our Selves by reading the work of god and other news of the day and doing Some writing that aught to be done up to near one oclock in the after noon of to day from which we eat our noon meal and after we were through with our noon meal and the dinner table and contents cared far the writer then caught and geered his horse then hitched him too my buggy then drove over too bluff creek to See how the county convicts was getting along with the Jourman road leading north & west from the Town of Crawford Texas to Coryell city and further on no telling where the end is and after viewing the long graid across Bluff creek and Seeing where so much hard work had been done and So much money expend for the work of blasting down Such mountains for conveniance Sake too the public and Such a iron bridge erected across Shch a Small Streem and Such a dump raised to the level of Said bridge it was wonderful to look at and So much expense too the Taxpayers of precinct no. 7 of McLennan County Texas, and by the by it did not Shorten the distance what ever in the too pro_? roads to the Geoman Settlement after Satisfying my couriosity in Such a way as my desired led me i return home Striped the geer off of my horse and Staked my horse out on the Street of Crawford then went to work and done up my night Schores and when through with my out door work i returned in doors we then portaken of our evening meal and when through and the Suppertable cared far we then moved in too our bed room by a good fire as it was Some what cool as the South west wind had been blowing quite Strong and cool all day and after resting for a while we departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a quiet nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford State of Texas
Monday February the 2th AD 1914 - Opened up quite a cloudey muddy looking morning. looks in appearance of rain Sleet or Snow and very likely all three may come on us before it clears wind from the Still low breese earley in the morning. Thermometer at or near Seven oclock this morning Registered at 50 Degrees tempature The familey arose from there bed of repose Some what late this morning and after getting prepared for work the writer first fed his horse then returned too our Kitchen renewed the fire in the cook Stove then went to work and assisted my wife in prepareing of our morning meal and when Served and placed on the table we Seated our Selves too the Same then portaken of our morning meal and when we were through and the breakfast table and contents cared far the writer then Started the fire in our bed room to drive out the damp as it appeared to be turning much cooler as the dense clouds were getting much thicker as the day passes a way and the presence of fire feels a greeable all a long the line now as i am undicided what to do to day as the weather is So unfavorable i will have to wait and reflect upon it as i did intend to go too the Middle Bosque for a load of wood but as the weather is so unfavorable i am a fraid to venture out as i am in my 82 second year of my life So i had better Stay out of the wet and cold weather i am thinking So i will wait further on to See what it will do but by waiting i did not go at all just remained at home alday and graised my horse on the grass and just hamered a round the premises al day and eating my three meals of vituals cooked by my wife and when the evening come on i done up my night Schores and prepare my Self for a nights rest hoping and trustin in lord that we may be blest with a good nights rest to night is the wish and will of the old people to night Now this being the Second day of February 1914 it is called by the people of to day the ground hog day but by the older people the 14th day of February of evry year has always been called ground hog day and if he came out on that day and did not See his Shadow he remained out and the prediction was a earley Spring but if he come out and Seen his Shadow it, will go back and remain in his cave Six week longer then Spring will make its appearance and the hog will come out agian and remain on the range and renew his flesh as lying up So long he becomes very poor from Sucking his feet or rather his paw W.E.Costley at home in the Town of Crawford Texas
Tuesday February the 3dh AD 1914 - Opened up quite a South morning much in appearance of rain cloudy weather wind from the South Thermometer at or near Seven oclock Regtistered at 52 Degrees tempature as usual the familey arose something what late this morning but when prepared for work the writer renewed the fire in the cook Stove then ground and put the coffee on the Stove to make and my wife done the balance of prepareing of our morning meal whilst the writer did the feeding of the horse and prepareing water for the same after getting i returned too the dining room and my wife had the morning meal Served and placed on the table and announced readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our morning meal and when through my wife then went to work and put her breakfast table and contents all in good Shape again whilst the writer made preperations to go too Middle Bosque for a load of wood although a dark cloudey foggy morning it was for the buisiness. but i went also and after arriving my old pasture i tied my horse too a post then look after my cattle and when i found them i gave them Some Salt i then returned too my horse and then as the horse was tied, clost to where John Bostic was at work clearing up land for E.D. Costley on the place that i (he) recently bough from the writer to See how he was getting along with his work i found him doing quite well, and remained with him for Some bit then mounted in my hack and drove back on the South Side of Middle Bosque in too Ed Costleys valley farm to get a load of wood after arriving at the place i then dismounted from my cart tied my horse to a tree then went to work and cut my Self a load of wood and after getting of it cut i then loaded the wood on too my cart and drove for Crawford the place where i now live, after arriving at home, i taken my horse from my cart taken the geer off of him then gave him Some water after he drank i then fed him after getting through Eating i then Staked him out on the Street of Crawford Texas, i then eat my noon and Evening meal to geather as it were three oclock in the afternoon of to day after getting through i then unloaded my cart of the wood i had on it then wrote a letter to J.M. Costley at Energy in Hamilton County and mailed it i then returned home with too letters one from JM Costley of Energy Texas in Hamilton County Texas and the other one was from Ed Costley of Waco, Texas in E.D.Costley letter i found my Tax receipt and a check for fifty Dollars on the Farmers Bank of Crawford Texas, the Tax receipt was thirteen Dollars and ninty three cts paid by E.D.Costley which makes on this payment on my home Steed Sixty three Dollars and 94cts February 4th 1914 by Ed Costley. i then prepared wood for night and morning and brought it in doors to be handy i then recorded our days work and when i were through we taken a Short rest then departed too our bed of repose hoping to get a good nights rest to night is the desire of the old people to night W E Costley in the Town of Crawford Texas W.E.Costley
