AGED WHITEWRIGHT CITIZEN SUCCUMBS

    Resident of North Texas Since 1871 Dies at 91 Years of Age B.F. Blanton, 91, died at his home in Whitewright Saturday at 11 a.m. after an illness of only a few days.  Mr. Blanton was born in North Carolina Nov. 11, 1843, the son of B. E. and Mary Blanton.  He had been a member of the
Baptist church since 15 years of age.  He became a deacon of the church while in North Carolina..
    Mr. Blanton and his wife came to Texas from North Carolina in 1871, settling near Ely in Fannin  county, in a log house on 22 acres of land.  They moved to Bethel, Grayson county, in 1876 where they lived until moving to Whitewright in 1930.  Mr. Blanton's grandfather served as a private in
the American revolutionary army and Mr. Blanton served in the Confederate army during the civil war.  Being a retired farmer and ginner Mr. Blanton at one time owned over 500 acres of land and at the time of his death owned 150 acres and his homeplace.  He retired from active farm life five
years ago when he first moved to Whitewright.  He bought his first automobile shortly after his ninety-first birthday last fall.  He and his wife went driving daily in the car, although he did not drive himself but his daughter drove for him daily.  Mr. Blanton and his wife celebrated their sixty-ninth
wedding anniversary last Oct. 12.  Mr. Blanton was the father of 10 children, the following eight of whom are living.  Mrs. W. B. Teal of Vernon, J. S. Blanton, Vernon, J. F. Blanton, Lubbock; C. S. and J.A. Blanton, Whitewright; Mrs. W.A. Badgett, Denison, Mrs. M.C. Sweatt, Fort Gibson, Okla;
and W. A. Blanton, Oklahoma City. -- (Researcher's note:  Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Blanton was the son of Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of Rutherford Co., NC.  B. F. "Frank" Blanton and his wife Julia Ann Blanton were not related, yet each was born in Rutherford Co.,
NC and they shared the same birth surname.)

 B.F. BLANTON - Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Blanton, 91, were held at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Bethel Baptist Church, 4  miles south of Whitewright, conducted by Rev.J. L. Truett.   He was assisted by Rev. J.R. Hilger  of Greenville, Rev. J. A. Henderson and Rev.
 Atherton of Sherman.  Pallbearers were Orphia Blanton of San Antonio, Roy Blanton, Earl Blanton of Karnak, Houston Blanton, Cecil Blanton of Wichita Falls and Eddie Hemphill of Oklahoma City. Internment was in Bethel Cemetery, the burial service being conducted by the Whitewright Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Blanton was a member.  // Mr. Blanton died at 11 a.m. Saturday at his home here, after an illness of only a few days.  // He was born in North Carolina Nov. 11, 1813, the son of B.E. and Mary Blanton.  He married Miss Julian (sic) Ann Blanton in North Carolina on Oct. `12, 1865, and they came to Texas in 1871 and established their home in the Bethel community where they resided until they moved to Whitewright in 1930.  They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary last October.  He had been a member of the Baptist of the   Baptist Church since the age of 15, and was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Whitewright.  He helped to organize the Bethel Baptist Church many years ago, and transferred his membership to that church where it had since remained.  // Mr. Blanton is survived by his  wife, three daughters, Mrs. Emma Teel of Vernon, Mrs. Maggie Badgett of Denison, Mrs. Addie Sweat of Fort Gibson, Okla., and five sons, John S. Blanton of Vernon, James F. Blanton of Lubbock, Albert Blanton of Oklahoma City, and Charles S. and Jesse A. Blanton of Whitewright. // Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Blanton of Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. James F. Blanton of Lubbock, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Blanton and son of Oklahoma, Mrs. Emma Teel of Vernon, Mrs. Addie Sweat of Fort Gibson, Okla; Walter Badgett and family of Denison, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Stephens and son of Jacksonville, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Blanton and son of Wichita Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hemphill and son of Oklahoma City, Mrs. John Arledge of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Orbia Blanton of San Antonio, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Williams of Paris, Miss Elizabeth Waggoner of Austin, Earl Blanton of Karnak, and Ernest Blanton of Sherman.

DIED AT BELLS
Sherman, Texas.  December 18. -- W. B. Blanton, cashier of the First National Bank at Bells and a long-time citizen of Grayson county died at his home in Bells at 2 o'clock this morning following a week's illness with pneumonia according to word received here today.  Mr. Blanton was well known
in Sherman and news of his death came as a great shock to his friends here. Funeral services will probably be held tomorrow afternoon, definite arrangements are being held up until a number of brothers and sisters could be notified.  Mr. Blanton is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Cecil Blanton, an employee of the Commercial National Bank of this city, was a son, while another son and a daughter resided at home.  His parents who also survive are Mr. and Mrs. Ben Blanton, who are among the oldest citizens of the Whitewright community.

   W.B. BLANTON DIED AT BELLS THURSDAY MORNING - W.B. Blanton, a prominent citizen of Bells and cashier of the First National Bank  of that place died at this home there at two o'clock last Thursday morning; following a brief illness of pneumonia.  Mr. Blanton was 47 years of  age, and is survived by a wife and three children, also by his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Blanton, who reside south of Whitewright.  The  funeral was held Friday, the remains being interred at Rose Hill cemetery.
   Mr. Blanton was well known in Whitewright and vicinity and was looked upon as a man of ability and splendid qualities of citizenship.  About ten years ago he became connected with a Bells bank as a cashier, which positions he filed with much credit.  He was a member of the Baptist church. (Researcher note:William B. Blanton was the son of Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of   Rutherford Co., NC.  His maternal grandparents were Stephen Fletcher Blanton and Sarah McDaniel.  His maternal great-grandparents were Rev. Jeremiah Blanton and Sarah Rebecca Womack of Rutherford Co., NC.  W.B. Blanton's first wife was Leila Dunaway. His second wife was Faye King.  After W.B. Blanton's death she married C.E. Williams. It is believed she may have died in San Antonio.)

DEATH AT BELLS
MRS. W.B. BLANTON PASSED AWAY EARLY THIS MORNING
   Mrs. W.B. Blanton, wife of W.B. Blanton, cashier of the First National Bank of Bells, this county, died at her home in Bells this morning at 5
o'clock, after a short illness.  She is survived by her husband and two children, a boy and a girl.
   Mrs. Blanton was a sister to Mrs. John Robertson of No. 319 Cleveland avenue, this city and Mrs. Robertson left immediately for Bells upon receipt
of the news from Bells.
   Ms. Blanton was quite well known in Sherman and the family have many friends here who will learn of he death with deep regret. Burial will be in the Pilot Grove cemetery (sic Rose Hill Cemetery at Bells) Sunday afternoon.
(Researcher note:  Lelia Dunaway Blanton, daughter of H.T. and Susanah Dunaway, was the first wife of William Benjamin Blanton.  She was
predeceased by an infant son, John Blanton who died in 1912 and is buried near his mother in an unmarked grave at Rose Hill Cemetery.  William
Benjamin (W.B.) Blanton was the son of Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of Rutherford Co., NC. Ora Lee Blanton, age 85, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in a Greenville, Texas hospital. Funeral
services were held Wednesday, May 17 at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel in Vernon with Reverend
Nancy Moore officiating. She was buried in Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral
Home.  Mrs.Blanton was born July 10, 1914 in Thalia, a daughter of the late James Claude and
Vinetta Culver Davis. She married Bert Frank Blanton on February 9, 1940, in Vernon.  A graduate of
Five In One High School, she had retired from Wilbarger General Hospital and had previously worked
at Montgomery Ward. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, and Eastern Star.
She is survived by a daughter, Nan Beth Shultz, wife of Roy Martin Shultz, of Greenville, Texas; two
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 BLANTON SERVICES SET - Denison - Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in
Johnson-Moore funeral Chapel here for Ben F. Blanton, 76, retired Katy Railroad machinist, who died
Monday in Katy Hospital here.  // Rev. H.E. Smithee, minister of the first Assembly of
God Church, will conduct the services.  Burial will be in Cedarlawn Memorial Park.  // The family will
be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.    Tuesday.  // Mr. Blanton is the father of Sheriff Woody
Blanton and Miss Louise Blanton, secretary to the Denison City Manager.
(Researcher's note: Benjamin F. Blanton was the son of Thomas J. Blanton and Eliza Jane Smith.  His
paternal grandparents were Josiah Blanton and Lucy Westbrook; his paternal great-grandparents
were Jeremiah Blanton and Sarah Rebecca Womack of Rutherford Co., NC.)
