This cemetery contains many unmarked
graves
Mormon Grove Cemetery is located off of old Dorchester
Road near the intersection of Old Dorchester Road and Ford Road. The cemetery
is on the section of the road that runs East to West
Several stones are laying on the ground. There is
cow manure everywhere, which is evidence that cows rome through this abandoned
cemetery

Mormon Grove, near
todays Dorchester, was named for the campsite of a group of "Mormons" who
had separated from the main church group in Illinois, known as the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. The body of the main church continued
on from Illinois to settle in Utah. Many splinter groups formed and drifted
elsewhere, they were excommunicated from the main church and formed their
own churches.
One was lead by Lyman Wight
who came into Grayson County in the Fall of 1845 and wintered in this "Mormon"
grove. From there they moved southwest into the Texas Hill Country. Read
more about them.
