JOHNNIE W. BLANTON SURVIVED BLUE SINKING - A veteran at 19 -- survivor
of the U.S.S. Blue, being rescued after hours in the war and having experienced
the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Coral Sea, and the Solomons!
That's the record of Seaman First Class Johnnie William
Blanton, a former
Denison Herald carrier, who entered the navy 22 months ago after
completing
the tenth grade in high school here.
A native of Caddo, Okla., he had been in Denison three
years when he
enlisted. His mother, Mrs. Willie Bruhin, lives at 123 East
Day. Brothers
and sisters include Kay Ferrell, Robert Blanton, Allen Blanton and
Junior
Brown, all of 123 East Day.
Adding to his experiences, he was stationed in Australia
when last heard
from. (researcher's note: In addition to the above named
family members,
Johnnie W. Blanton's immediate family members included his father,
William
Franklin Blanton and step-mother Frankie Monroe Martin Blanton of
Bokchito,Okla, grandmother Margaret Elizabeth Keller Blanton Jones of Vickery,
Texas, half-brothers and sisters, Dorothy Mae Blanton, Billy Ray Blanton,
Nora Faye Blanton and Bobby Jay Blanton, all of Bokchito, OK.)
