ERA J. McBRIDE - Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday
in Waldo
Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Eva Josephine McBride, 79, formerly of 110
N.
Cleveland, who died Tuesday in a Sherman hospital. // Services
will be
conducted by Rev. Leon Verphal of Hillsboro First Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. // Mrs. McBride
was born in
Trenton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merlon Thomas Blanton (sic
should read
Marion Thomas Blanton). She was married to the late Elmer
Elex McBride
(sic - aka Sherman E. McBride) in January 1914 at Bonham.
She was a
member of the Wolfe City First Christian Church. // Survivors
are a son, Tom
McBride of Wichita Falls; brother, Wright Blanton of Bells,
sisters, Mrs. Ora
Lee Murry (sic Murray) and Mrs. Lewis Chenualt (Fayola Blanton
McFarland Chenualt) both of Hobbs,N.M.; three grandchildren and
six
great-grandchildren. // The family will be at the funeral
home from 7 to 8 p.m.
Thursday and other times at the Holiday Inn. Pallbearers will
be Hal Tingle,
William Blanton, Roscoe Blanton, Othel Blanton, Guy Owenby, Joe
Cox and
Cecil Cowan. (Researcher's Note: Era Josephine Blanton was
the daughter of
Marion Thomas Blanton and Josephine Argenia Mathis (aka N.J. Matthews).
She was the granddaughter of Rev. Benjamin F. Blanton and Sarah
L. Boone.
Her paternal great-grandparents were Josiah Blanton and Lucy Westbrook.
Her gg-grandparents were Jeremiah Blanton and Sarah Rebecca Womack
of
Rutherford Co., NC.)

94, who died Wednesday at a local hospital, will be Friday at 10:30

Tex., daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Blanton. She was married on Sept. 26, 1905,
to Walter A.
Badgett. He died Dec. 30, 1944. She was a music
teacher and a member of
the First Baptist Church. // Survivors include three sons,
Howard, College
Station, James R. (Bud), Lordsburg, N. Mex., and Joe, Austin, one
daughter,
Lucille, Denison; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,

Jeremiah Blanton and Sarah Rebecca Womack of Rutherford Co., NC.

TMI INSTRUCTORS FUNERAL SLATED - Services for the last surviving
member of the original faculty of Texas Military Institute are scheduled
for 3
p.m. Tuesday at Porter Loring Mortuary. // Orbia Blanton,
81, of 227
Millwood Lane, died Sunday. // He served in the cavalry
in World War I and
later joined the founding faculty of the military prep school.
// Blanton was at
the school until his retirement in 1962. // Survivors include
his widow, Mrs.
Addie Blanton, a son, John C. Blanton and two grandchildren, all
of San
Antonio; two brothers, Roy and Earl Blanton, of Whitewright; and
a sister,
Mrs. Irline Stephens of Orange. // Entombment will be at Sunset
Memorial

Blanton and
Priscilla Virginia Cowen. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin

West Hill Cemetery for Mary Taliaferro Blanton, 72, a retired teacher,
of 1205 Western Hills, who died Friday in a Sherman hospital.
Rev. Jack
Gibson of the First United Methodist Church will officiate assisted
by
Rev. James W. Gerrard of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Burial
will be
under the direction of Dannel and Horton Funeral Home. //
Born in Madill,
Okla, she was the daughter of William N. and Mary Eliza Null Tallaferro.
She
moved to Sherman at the age of 12, attended Sherman schools, Randolph-
Macon College and the University of Oklahoma. She was married
to L.O.
Blanton Jr. in Sherman. She was a member of the First United
Methodist
Church, the Sherman Service League, Current Book Review Club, Pi
Beta
Phi Sorority and was a board member of Grayson County Society for
Crippled
Children and Adults. // Surviving are step-daughters, Mrs.
Donnita Rhodes of
Santa Maria, Calif., and Mrs. Bob Ewing of Durant, Okla. //
Pallbearers will
be great-nephews. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite
charity. //
The family will be at the residence, 1205 Western Hills.

ZADA BOWLING - Collinsville - Services for Mrs. Zada Bowling,
95-year-old Collinsville housewife who died Wednesday at Medical
Plaza
Hospital in Sherman, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Huff Funeral
Chapel
in Whitesboro. // The Rev. Carroll Coddell will officiate
and burial will be
in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. // Mrs. Bowling was born
in Texas, a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sigel Creech, and married George Bowling
in
August 1924 in Sherman. // She was a Methodist and a member
of the
Order of Eastern Star. She served 10 years as a grandmother
for the State
School in Denton. // Surviving are her sons, Henry Arthur
Blanton of Fort
Worth, Virgil Blanton of Collinsville and David W. Blanton of Bakersfield,
Calif.; daughter, Mrs. Paul (Edna) Johnson of Forney; half-sister,
Ada King
of Haltom City; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and
eight
great-great-grandchildren. // The family will be at the funeral
home from 7 to

OSCAR L. BLANTON - Oscar L. Blanton, who was a Boy Scout leader
for 30 years, died Sunday at a Fort Worth hospital. He was 87.
//
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at University Christian Church,
where he was a member. Burial will be private. Shannon's South
Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements. / Mr. Blanton was born
in Savoy, Fannin County, and moved to Fort Worth in the 1930's. He
worked in
Boy Scouts for 50 years and was named executive director of the
Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America before he retired in the
1960's. He remained a member of the executive board of the
council until his death. // Mr. Blanton was honored with the Silver Beaver
Award in
1940 for his volunteer work. Mr. Blanton was a past president
of the Fort Worth chapter of Civitan International and a charter member
of the
Fort Worth chapter 1430 of the American Association of Retired Persons.
// Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Steele Blanton of
Fort Worth; one daughter, Betty Blanton Crabtree of Granbury; one brother,
Tom Blanton of Sherman; two sisters, Flora Lay and Nadine Blanton, both
of Sherman, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
(Researcher’s note: Oscar was son of William Foster Blanton and Rebecca
Virginia Wrenn. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Jefferson Blanton
and Elizabeth Jane Locke.)
