Hiram was born on April 22, 1840 to James
Dugan Murray and Mary Reese. He died Dec. 29, 1861. Hiram's grandfather
James Murray and his great grandfather Samuel Murray fought with Gen. Frances
Marion in the 2nd S.C. Regiment during the Revolutionary War. His parents
and the William Mc Carrolls who are buried in Oakwood Cemetery traveled
from Tuxedo, NC near Asheville in the late 1830's to Morgan County, MO.
The James Murray Jr. family stayed in Morgan County but William Mc
Carroll decided to move on to Texas because Missouri was a swing state
and William favored "States Rights". At this time there was a lot of unrest
in Missouri.Hiram Lilly Murray was named after his Aunt Lilly Murray McCarroll
and moved on to Texas with the McCarrolls. He died shortly afterward and
was buried in Basin Springs Cemetery.
